Want to replace the second row bench seat in my van with captain’s chairs

Is it possible to replace the second row bench seat with captain's chairs? The base model SE van comes stock with second row bench seat, and the SXT model has the second row captain's chairs that I want. Do both models have the same connections on the floor of the van so that I could swap out the bench with captain's chairs?
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hi there. The same mounting areas are there on both vans. The carpet is different so it will not look right with the captains chairs unless you replace the carpet, too. Other than that, as long as you get the captains chairs complete with the mounting hardware, you can easily switch them out. If you need to have someone do this for you, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to your car’s location to do this.

You can, but you will need to drill new mounting holes for the seats and mounting hole for the seat belts. 2 people think this is helpful.
Yes. If you have captain chairs, you can install a jump seat between them. If you have the two seat bench you should be able to do what sgtmopar recommended. 1 person thinks this is helpful.
This conversion is pretty straightforward and can be done at home if you have access to a welder. After removing the factory bench seat, test-fit the bucket seat to check and see which mounts will have to be cut off, moved, or modified.
Since seats are individually carved for each passenger, captain seats tend to provide better lumbar support. The overall comfort of a captain seat is better than what is offered on a bench-type seat as passengers do not have to squeeze in and adjust with other co-passengers.
A bucket seat is a car seat contoured to hold one person, distinct from a flat bench seat designed to fit multiple people.
The pros, or advantages, of a captain seat are: Captain chairs offer much better comfort and bolstering for the 2nd row occupants compared to a bench seat. Captain seats let passengers individually adjust and/or recline the seat for additional comfort while moving only the attached armrest with the seat.
Automakers wanted to be able to install automatic seatbelts and airbags in cars and had a hard time making them for the center seat on the bench. Over time, carmakers crammed more stuff into the center console between the two bucket seats — everything from music players to climate controls and gear shifters.
A bench seat is a full width continuous pad forming the front seat of automobiles. The second row of seating in most sedans is usually a bench. The third row of most SUVs and minivans, which may be forward-facing or rear-facing, is also a bench seat.
When compared to bucket seats, they can accommodate one additional person. Bench seats swivel forward to provide passengers with more accessible access to the third row. Many autos have the option of a 60:40 split. You can seat four people and still have room for luggage in the second row.
Bench seats are much more comfortable than Captain seats if travelling with children and there is lots of luggage.
The width of a standard bench seat depends on the number of people it is designed to seat. That said, a bench seat designed for two people typically has a width of 42- 52 inches; a bench seat for three people is approximately 53-80 inches wide, and bench seats above 80 inches wide can accommodate at least four people.
Not all child safety seats fit in all vehicles and all seating positions. If a vehicle has bucket seats, it may interfere with proper safety seat installation. In this case, you may want to try a child safety seat with a narrow base and top tether strap.
Pros And Cons Of Captain Seats

Comfort is significantly better as you don`t have to squeeze in and adjust with others. All passengers have enough legroom, get 3-point seatbelt support, and can recline their seats to their heart`s content.

Captain`s chairs are called that because early versions of the armchairs were used aboard boats to provide seating for high-ranking officers. These chairs date back to the 19th century and usually featured all-wood construction.
Captain`s chairs for dining are characterized by a low curved back, comfy armrests, and durable wood construction.
There are pros and cons to both captain seats and bench seats in terms of comfort for passengers. Captain seats offer more individualized comfort with arm rests and the ability to recline, while bench seats provide a more social experience and allow for passengers to slide across the seat to talk to one another.
You will find that captains chairs are available on Honda Pilots with 7 seats. This is due to the fact that the captains chairs replace the bench seat in the middle row getting rid of a seat.
Bucket seats: Rounded seat contoured to fit one person. Captain`s chairs: Similar to the bucket seat, but usually has an armrest. Some car manufacturers call their bucket seats captain`s chairs.
Well-fitting, good quality foam bench cushions are the simplest way to make your bench seat more comfortable. Take the time to measure your bench seat so that you know the dimensions you are looking for. With that information you can either purchase cushions from a store or you can get them made to measure.
Steel and cast iron are substantial, while aluminum benches can be much lighter. Maintenance: Metal benches tend to be low maintenance, and their durability makes them a long-lasting material.
Safest place for a car seat in a minivan or SUV

If your vehicle has a bench in the middle row, then you should install your car seat in the center of the middle row. Conversely, if your middle row has bucket seats instead, you should place the car seat in the third row of seats.

How do I buckle the center seat belt in the second row of seats?
ANSWER : While the driver and passenger sides (front and rear) have conventional shoulder and lap belt combination systems, the center seat belt in the second row seat is a little different. It’s a three-point system that uses a separate lap and shoulder belt. There are also two buckles that must be used at the same time. Here’s how to use it:

Sit as far back in the seat as possible.
Pull the lap belt over and buckle it.
Pull the shoulder belt across and buckle it in the other buckle.
Double check that both buckles are secure.

Tip

Never use just the shoulder belt or just the lap belt. Both must be used at all times in the center position in the second row.

Hi sir i have a Q . What should I replace if i want to replace the ignition switch fo nissan 350z 2003 other than the switch it’s
ANSWER : Hello. If the car needs a new ignition then you will need to replace the ignition lock cylinder along with the ignition switch. It sounds like they both may be damaged. Once they are installed the new key will need to be programmed to the vehicle using a factory scan tool. Before you buy the car, I suggest having a pre-purchase inspection done by a qualified technician, like one from YourMechanic, to pinpoint any other issues and ensure a solid investment. Good luck.

Passenger seat heater not working properly.
ANSWER : Hello and thank you for contacting YourMechanic. The book says that you can use a 15, 20, 25, or 30 amp fuse. The power to the heaters are operated through the wiring to the main harness. There could have been a wire tied into it to make the seat work on the same circuit as the driver seat. This is common to find in the vehicles.

You can try putting a 15 amp fuse in the slot and see if the seat works. Try to avoid using a high amp fuse for if there is a problem with the heater you don’t want to burn it. If nothing seems to work, then the heater in the seat has failed and needs replaced.

If you need further assistance troubleshooting your vehicle, then seek out a technician, such as one from Your Mechanic, that can assist you with a seat inspection at your home or office. Best of luck.

Check Engine light comes on, mechanic replaced o2 sensor but light still comes on.
ANSWER : Hi there:

If the mechanic completed the O2 sensor replacement, reset the codes and the error code was triggered again, it is possible that the catalytic converter is damaged and needs to be replaced. However, it’s also very common for the electrical harnesses that power these sensors to become frayed, damaged or faulty; which can also trigger the check engine light. It’s not advisable to drive a vehicle with a damaged catalytic converter for extended periods of time, as it can cause damage to internal engine components.

2011 Chevrolet Camaro"Driver side power seat"…..Seat back won’t come up. Dealer says its over $4,000.
ANSWER : Without knowing what the actual problem is, it would be difficult to say which estimate is accurate. It is quite a price difference. The problem can be caused by a faulty electric motor, which may be a few hundred dollars to replace, or possible a broken seat frame or drive mechanism, which can cost much more One of our mobile technicians can come to you and check into why the seat is not working and give you a diagnosis and/or estimate for repairs.

I was told by a Honda Dealer that the axle seals must be replaced in the front. I want to get a second opinion.
ANSWER : The axle seals are pressed into the transaxle case and their purpose is simply to keep the transmission fluid from leaking out of the transmission (and keep dirt and water out of the transmission, too, of course). There is an axle seal on the left and a seal on the right, so two altogether. The seals themselves are very inexpensive, typically costing anywhere from $5 to $25, depending on whether you buy them on Ebay or the dealer (genuine OEM dealer parts are recommended). Although the sealing surface on the seal is made of rubber, it would be unusual for these seals to have failed, that is leaked, on a 4 year old car with only 79,000 miles. It would be even more unusual, indeed statistically improbable, for BOTH (left and right) seals to have failed at the same time. So, your case presents as a bit of a mystery. Failure of seals of this type will evidence themselves as an external leak of transmission fluid and there will be clear, visible, unmistakable evidence of the leak, if they are leaking. What you could have done at the Honda dealer, once they alleged a seal failure, was told the Mechanic, "show me", "show me the leak". If they won’t, or can’t, show you externally visible evidence of a leak then, quite simply, you don’t have a leak. Sometimes, by the way, to deal with an unexpected question like, "show me", they’ll tell you they can’t "due to insurance regulations" preventing you from entering the shop. "Insurance regulations", translated into English, means that there’s no leak on your car.

A leak of this type, if it exists, is important though and has to be fixed so this should be resolved. You could go back to the dealer and simply ask them to show you the leak evidence, on your car, so that you can gain an understanding of exactly what is going on. If they do not indulge you immediately and show and explain everything to your satisfaction, you got your answer right there: that is not a professional shop out to help YOU and indeed you may not even have a leak. The point is to resolve this, you need to see the leak before you make a decision. YourMechanic can look at the vehicle and see if there is evidence of a leak. And, if you do have a leak, regarding the cost to install new seals, you might want to get a second opinion as well, again something YourMechanic can assist you with. As noted at the outset, the cost of these seals is frankly trivial. It is really the labor cost to get to those seals which is material. As you may know, YourMechanic dispatches mobile mechanics, who have the same (or better) certifications that the Mechanics in the shops have but almost none of the overhead. Consequently, for a seal replacement of this type, if it turns out that you need it, the savings might be substantial.
