My passenger side window doesn't work. Put in a new regulator, that wasn't the problem. The window doesn't go up or down from the driver side switch either. But the heating works in the passenger door ..what could be the problem? The switch or wires?

My car has 199000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hi there. It’s possible that an electrical relay is damaged or you have a shorted electrical wire or faulty ground wire that is causing this issue with your motor. It’s also possible that a mechanical arm inside the passenger side door is bent. Before you start replacing more parts, it’s probably a better idea to have a professional mechanic complete a power window not working inspection, so they can pinpoint the source and recommend the right repairs.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

If only one window stops working, the problem could be a bad relay, fuse issue, bad motor, or the power window switch has failed. The most common reason for one window to stop working is the switch, so this should be looked at by a professional mechanic to have your power window switch replaced.
There are a multitude of reasons why your car window might not roll up, including: The fuses are blown, preventing the electrical controls handling the window from working. The child safety lock is engaged by accident. The window switch is functioning correctly, but the window motor has malfunctioned.
If your car window will go down but not up, then the problem is likely a bad window switch. Identifying a malfunctioning window switch is sort of the opposite of diagnosing a bad window motor.
Click Start > Settings > Update & security > Recovery.

On the Recovery screen, click Get started under Reset this PC, which offers you two choices – Keep my files or Remove everything. The latter is what you want if you`re getting rid of your computer and want to factory reset it first.

Check the fuse

With some arrangements a single fuse in the main supply line is used to protect the complete window system so a failure here affects all the windows. Other cars have individual fuses for each window motor so failure will only affect the one window.

Common signs include having to press multiple times to roll the window up or down, slower or faster window speed, and clicking sounds from the door.
How is a soft reset performed? On a Windows computer, a soft reset can be performed by clicking on the “Restart” button in the operating system, or by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
The most common reasons a Saab 9-3 window won`t go up or down are window`s electrical system such as a fuse or relay, a broken window motor, or a broken window regulator. Search our network of RepairPal Certified shops near you to speak with a technician about your issue.

Having a problem with the passenger side window switch; the window will go down but not back up
ANSWER : Hi there, this issue generally comes up often when we see a power window that does not work on the passenger switch, but still works with the driver’s master switch. It means that the passenger side window switch has failed. The fact that the drivers switch operates the window properly lets you know that the window components all function properly as that the problem is probably electrical.

A technician that is diagnosing this would use the wiring diagram to find the proper wires to test and check for power when the window is rolled up to see if there is power present when the window is commanded to roll down with the switch. Given that you are still under warranty, this scenario should be something the dealership would resolve free of charge as part of the warranty. If the vehicle is only under powertrain warranty and not the full warranty, the technicians at YourMechanic are able to provide diagnosis for your window and can perform a power window switch replacement for you if necessary.

Driver’s side windows do not properly function
ANSWER : If removing the driver door window switch (or the driver-side console switch), and applying direct power to the harness yields successful operation of the window, the problem is the switch that was removed for the test. This can be confirmed utilizing a voltmeter/multimeter, and following the "power path" from the fuse, to the switch, to the output side of the switch (harness plug side of the switch), etc. A YourMechanic technician can assist with the diagnosis of your window issue and help you fix it accordingly.

My window on my passenger side won’t roll down and the lock button doesn’t lock the doors.
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. Your issue is most likely a switch. The window motor would not effect the door lock functions. The only true way to know is to test the power available to the switch and see if it is passing through, or making it to the motor. Where the power stops and is not utilized, is the component that has failed. If the power supply is not making it to the switch, then you have another wiring or fuse issue. Without doing some electrical testing, you may want to start with replacing the switch. I just replaced the front passenger window regulator and motor and it works but only when i am using the rear passenger switch
ANSWER : Your Audi uses a window control module to operate the windows. The switches send a command to the module, and the module sends the power to the window motors. I’ve seen the modules do some screwy things, especially when the battery voltage gets low, but I wouldn’t run out and buy a module just yet. It may be possible to communicate with it with the right software and there might be some re-set that can be done. If you contact Your Mechanic, they can send a technician to your home or office to check out your spooky windows and tell you whether you need a new module or something else.

2008 GMC Acadia: passenger side window switch will make the window go down, but not back up. Now master switch on driver’s side wo
ANSWER : The switch internals of one or both switches are faulty or there is a bad connection to the switches. To resolve this, the switches have to be removed from the door so that you can get access to the terminals. From there it is a simple matter of testing for switch continuity or power on the right terminals when the switch is supposed to be commanding up or down operation. Any switch not working as intended is condemned and replaced. If you want these steps performed by a certified Mechanic, dispatched by YourMechanic right to your location, please request a power window switch diagnostic and the responding certified mechanic will get this resolved for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

My dash board don’t work my front light work when I change my light into high beam and my back window won’t go down
ANSWER : As unfortunate as it is, your vehicle would be considered flood damaged. Diagnosing electrical problems in a flood damaged vehicle is nearly impossible. This would take many hours or even days to determine which wiring harnesses and circuits have been affected. Then nearly all of the wiring under the dash would likely require replacement as well as many sensors and switches. On a BMW vehicle, the amount of wires and switches are likely more than that of a lower end vehicle. Due to the inefficiency in cost, you would likely be able to purchase another BMW like yours for less than what it would cost to fix your car. Many insurance companies would consider this type of damage to total out the vehicle unfortuantely.

drivers side power window will not go down on 1999 buick Century
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. The window motor may have failed, and replacing it is a good idea. If you have a voltmeter, you can test that the motor is receiving power when the switch is pressed to go down. The motor will reverse polarity to switch the motor from going up to down, and it should read 12 volts while going down, and -12 volts when going up. If the voltage readings are correct, and the motor is not responding, then the motor is the problem. If the readings at the motor or incorrect, there is a circuit problem likely pertaining to the wiring or the switch.
