Driver’s side windows do not properly function

The driver’s side windows are not properly functioning. The fuse is good. The back window goes down with only the door switch. The window switches on the console will only function on the passenger-side windows. I took the door switch out, put power to the harness and the window went up and down with direct power. The driver’s side windows seem to have a polarity issue. The passenger side windows work great. All of the window switches on the passenger side work properly. The switches are good. It is the harness that is having the problem. Can you tell me what is causing this?
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
If removing the driver door window switch (or the driver-side console switch), and applying direct power to the harness yields successful operation of the window, the problem is the switch that was removed for the test. This can be confirmed utilizing a voltmeter/multimeter, and following the "power path" from the fuse, to the switch, to the output side of the switch (harness plug side of the switch), etc. A YourMechanic technician can assist with the diagnosis of your window issue and help you fix it accordingly.

Driver’s side windows do not properly function
ANSWER : If removing the driver door window switch (or the driver-side console switch), and applying direct power to the harness yields successful operation of the window, the problem is the switch that was removed for the test. This can be confirmed utilizing a voltmeter/multimeter, and following the "power path" from the fuse, to the switch, to the output side of the switch (harness plug side of the switch), etc. A YourMechanic technician can assist with the diagnosis of your window issue and help you fix it accordingly.

My window on my passenger side won’t roll down and the lock button doesn’t lock the doors.
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. Your issue is most likely a switch. The window motor would not effect the door lock functions. The only true way to know is to test the power available to the switch and see if it is passing through, or making it to the motor. Where the power stops and is not utilized, is the component that has failed. If the power supply is not making it to the switch, then you have another wiring or fuse issue. Without doing some electrical testing, you may want to start with replacing the switch. 2008 GMC Acadia: passenger side window switch will make the window go down, but not back up. Now master switch on driver’s side wo
ANSWER : The switch internals of one or both switches are faulty or there is a bad connection to the switches. To resolve this, the switches have to be removed from the door so that you can get access to the terminals. From there it is a simple matter of testing for switch continuity or power on the right terminals when the switch is supposed to be commanding up or down operation. Any switch not working as intended is condemned and replaced. If you want these steps performed by a certified Mechanic, dispatched by YourMechanic right to your location, please request a power window switch diagnostic and the responding certified mechanic will get this resolved for you. Power window on driver side goes down when car placed in reverse or drive without touching power window buttons.
ANSWER : Hi there. The only thing that would cause this is an electrical short, caused perhaps by an exposed wire in the power window module, which is located in the center console of your Ford Explorer. The best advice we could offer would be to have a professional mobile mechanic come to your location to complete an electrical problems inspection to try and isolate the source of this issue.

Driver side door lock button not working, and passenger side sliding door makes a buzzing noise
ANSWER : Hi there. These door issues are common on this vehicle. Most of the time the main issue is the master door lock switch on the driver door. It sounds like you already replaced that. As for the sliding door problem, most of the time, this is a failure within the door module or it can be a connection issue.

I typically take the door apart and check the connections on the module and inside of the door just to make sure that there is nothing apparent in there. If the connections and the wiring are fine, then I use a scan tool to check the module to see what the inputs and outputs are doing. If you need to have this looked at, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to your home or office to diagnose your door problem and recommend a repair.

Having a problem with the passenger side window switch; the window will go down but not back up
ANSWER : Hi there, this issue generally comes up often when we see a power window that does not work on the passenger switch, but still works with the driver’s master switch. It means that the passenger side window switch has failed. The fact that the drivers switch operates the window properly lets you know that the window components all function properly as that the problem is probably electrical.

A technician that is diagnosing this would use the wiring diagram to find the proper wires to test and check for power when the window is rolled up to see if there is power present when the window is commanded to roll down with the switch. Given that you are still under warranty, this scenario should be something the dealership would resolve free of charge as part of the warranty. If the vehicle is only under powertrain warranty and not the full warranty, the technicians at YourMechanic are able to provide diagnosis for your window and can perform a power window switch replacement for you if necessary.

I can’t roll the rear passenger window up from either the drivers side or the passenger side. Could it be the regulator rather than the switches?
ANSWER : Hi there. If you are hearing a clicking sound as the window is trying to roll up or down, then either the regulator motor is burned and needs replaced or the track that the window rides on is broken. If you need further assistance with your passenger window motor not working, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

Driver Side Inner & Outer Tie Rods and driver side strut being bent.
ANSWER : From what you’ve described, the damage was most likely caused from hitting a pot hole. If the damage was from a pot hole on the right side, in some cases it’s possible for the force to transfer over and damage the left side as well. If you’d like a second opinion on this, consider YourMechanic, as a certified technician can come to your home to diagnose your car’s suspension system and confirm these suspicions.
