I installed a new fuel pump it is turning on.But the car still wont start without starting fluid. I checked the engine with a pressure gauge and gas is not getting to the engine. The car is starting with spray.
The fuel filter is rusted shut there is no way to get to it. Is bypassing the fuel filter a temporary solution to move this car about 25 miles . I can not work on it where it is and I can not afford to have it towed. I need to get it running long enough to move it 25 miles so I can work on it in a garage. Do you have any suggestions?
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hi there. It sounds like the fuel filter being corroded is the issue. It will need to be removed as well as any lines that may be corroded. You may have to replace a good portion of the lines if there is a lot of corrosion. If the vehicle cannot be serviced where it is then fuel lines can be used but they need to be able to handle over 50 psi. You would be best to get some assistance from a certified mechanic, like one from YourMechanic, that can come to you to [replace the fuel filter and lines] https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/fuel-filter-replacement

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

If your car doesn`t start with a new fuel pump, chances are the fuel pump is either not hooked up right or is broken. Double check that the pump is correctly installed and all hose attachments are plugged in. Next, check for any blockages along the fuel line—this can also cause your car not to start.
A poor connection can cause enough resistance to lower the amount of voltage reaching the pump. This causes the pump to turn more slowly than it should, and can shorten the life of the pump. Replacing the vehicle side connector should solve the issues with poor connections, but sometimes causes another problem.
The most common reasons a Dodge Caravan won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter. Search our network of RepairPal Certified shops near you to speak with a technician about your issue.
The fuel pump shut-off switch has a red reset button on top of it.
The Fuel Pump function is used where the ECU will be controlling an electric Fuel Pump. ECU control is preferred for safety reasons to ensure that the fuel pump is turned off in case of an accident.
Without this relay, the engine would not receive fuel while starting. The pump that delivers fuel to the engine while the engine is running requires electricity in order to operate. This electricity is created by an oil pressure device in the engine.
As the engine is cranked, the crankshaft position sensor indicates to the PCM that the engine has reached a minimum cranking speed of about 250-300 rpm. At that point, the PCM re-activates the fuel pump.
The switch may have tripped and must be reset if your engine suddenly stops while driving, has issues starting up, or turns over without starting.
The basic operating system for an electric fuel pump is relatively simple. When the key is turned on, the powertrain control module (PCM) closes the fuel pump relay, which activates the fuel pump for about three seconds to pressurize the fuel injectors.
The fuel pump has a check valve built into it that is supposed to keep pressure to the injection system when you shut down and vehicle sits. If the pressure drops then the pump has to prime the system to bring the pressure high enough to start and run the engine.
If the fuel pump fails completely — to the point of not being able to provide enough fuel for the engine to run, the vehicle will refuse to start. The engine will still crank when the key is turned, but it will be unable to start due to the lack of fuel.
Debris blocking the suction strainer or foot valve is the most common cause. A blockage in the intake line can cause the water in the pump casing to overheat and literally boil out of the casing causing the pump to lose prime.

I have a truck that won’t run and is not getting gas to the engine. Fuel pump is running, have a new filter and new fuel pressure
ANSWER : Hi There,
It sounds like you may have a clogged fuel injector or potentially a faulty injector that is fried internally. I would suggest testing them if you have access to a multi meter. Disconnect the injector from the electrical connector and set your multi meter to Ohms mode and measure the resistance of the injector. After testing all injectors, compare the resistance. They should be the same or very close. If they are not, they will likely need to be replaced.

Fuel pump not pumping gas. 1996 Chevrolet Blazer
ANSWER : Hey there, thanks for writing in about your 1996 Chevrolet Blazer. If you hear the pump, but still get no fuel out of the pump, then you have the power and ground backwards in the wiring or they have it backwards on the pump. If you need help having this checked, a certified professional from YourMechanic can inspect the starting issue and let you know what repairs are necessary.

Just replaced my fuel pump but its not getting any power tested fuel pump relay and fuel fuse both good tested the wires all good.
ANSWER : You need to look at the theft light on dash to make sure it comes on and goes off when you turn the key to the on position. If light comes on and stays on then your theft system is causing the fuel pump to not be engaged. I recommend you check the theft system and then scan the computer for theft system codes. You may need to reprogram the keys to work or you have an bad sensor for the ignition key in the steering column.

Installed new delphi fuel pump and fram fuel filter. still no pressure on fuel rail valve and wont start. 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe
ANSWER : Hi there – I suspect you have weak power getting to the fuel pump. I would first check the voltage coming out of the fuel pump relay. If the contacts in the relay are burned, you will not get reliable current flow to the pump. Check the fuel pump ground as well (voltage drop across the ground, not just continuity). I recommend a fuel system inspection performed by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose this problem, give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.

Replaced fuel pump. Car won’t start. 2002 Infinity I35
ANSWER : Hi there – the metal component you describe is a fuel check valve on the fuel return line. Its function is to maintain a small amount of pressure in the fuel system so that starting does not require the fuel pump to run very long before the engine will start. Having replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter, I would check fuel pressure while the car is running. This is to check the fuel pump relay for burned contacts that won’t support full electrical current to the pump, and for proper fuel pressure – a malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator could also restrict power and higher speeds if pressure is too low. I would recommend an inspection of the fuel system by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose this problem, give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.

My Taurus will crank but will not start as it is not getting fuel. I installed a new fuel pump relay switch but it did not work.
ANSWER : Hello there, thanks for writing in. I’d be happy to offer my insight. Many different faults can cause your 2013 Ford Taurus to crank but not start. The most common would be the battery. Before any other diagnosis is done, the first step I would do is load test the battery and make sure it is charged and capable of starting the vehicle. If the battery tests okay, there other likely causes such as the fuel pump, fuel filter, starter, battery cable, ignition switch, or wiring harness fault. A qualified technician such as one from YourMechanic will be able to diagnose your crank no start and make any repairs required. Here at YourMechanic, we can have a technician come to your home or office to inspect and diagnose this issue for you, and make or suggest the necessary repairs.

the car is acting like its getting to much fuel. changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, and the fuel pump relay.
ANSWER : There could be a few things contributing to your problem. You are correct that clogged or sticking fuel injectors and possibly the fuel pressure regulator could be faulty. A plugged catalytic converter can also cause the vehicle to bog down. A failing throttle position sensor can cause the symptoms you describe as well. I suggest having a certified technician, like one from YourMechanic.com, do a few tests to determine the exact cause of your starting concern.
