All wheels are slightly bent and one wheel is cracked

I am having problems with the wheels on my car. All of them are slightly bent and the rear left wheel is cracked. Wheels just don't develop hairlines or straight cracks on the inside wall without there being some sort of bend in the wheel, so I am thinking there probably are other drivers with my make/model having the same problem due to a manufacturing issue. Even the mechanic where I purchased new tires told me that it looks suspicious. The length of the crack is about 1 inch and is on the rim edge. What are your suggestions for my wheel problems?
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
When the vehicle’s rims develop these type of cracks, they should be replaced immediately. The cracks can make the wheel unstable and should not be driven on until it is repaired. The most common causes of trims cracking in this manner is due to potholes or other impact damage. The wheels may have a fault, if they have all failed at once. A qualified technician, such as one from YourMechanic, will be able to inspect your steering, suspension, and wheels in order to diagnose this fault.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

The main cause of cracks in BMW alloy wheels is driving on rough roads. This is not about rough terrain. Uneven roads with the smallest potholes or low curbs can cause cracks to develop in the BMW alloy wheels.
Even a minor bend in your rim can spell serious trouble for your vehicle when left unrepaired. The change in road vibrations and driving patterns can cause issues with your vehicle`s axles, damage your healthy tires, disrupt your driveshaft, and so much more.
Heavy impact on the wheel is the primary reason for a bent wheel. Though rims are made of aluminum, steel or chrome, they lose their strength over time because of high impacts such as speed bumps, potholes, and uneven roads. This leads to bending of the rim.
Depending, on the extent of the damage, a wheel repair shop may be able to safely repair a cracked wheel. If the crack is not that extensive, it can be fixed by a wheel repair specialist. Many of our customers think a cracked alloy wheel can just be hammered back into place, but it is not as easy as it seems.
When rims are slightly bent, they can almost certainly be repaired. However, more extensive damage is a different situation. When your rims are severely bent out of shape, they are probably beyond repair. In this case, rim replacement may be your only option.
Alloy wheels can often develop cracks and damage around the outer rim. This can be caused by hitting a curb or a speed bump – but also from driving over pot holes and similar on uneven roads.
Often, a shop that can repair the bend can cost less than $150 in most cases, according to Rim Blades USA. According to Repair Pal, rim replacement can cost anywhere from $698 to $710. This is directly related to the cost of a brand-new rim by itself.
And even though they can look minor, cracked rims are a safety hazard to drivers and vehicle passengers. The most dangerous risk is that tire surrounding the damaged rim could have a complete blowout, rendering the car un-drivable.
Hitting a pothole can cause wheel rim damage, like chips, cracks, and bent rims. This creates a problem when the damaged wheel cannot form a solid seal with your tires or if it is not rolling smoothly.
Symptoms that Might Indicate a Bent Rim

Bent rims can lead to uneven tire wear, as they can cause the tire to make inconsistent contact with the road. Also, the tire`s bead could become unseated from the rim, which could result in a tire pressure loss.

In extreme cases of car rim damage, the tire itself may even become compromised. If this is the case, in addition to bent rim repairs, you may need a completely new tire or, at the very least, a tire patch.
Driving on a cracked rim should be avoided because it can be dangerous. A cracked rim can affect the performance of the tire, and can potentially cause a blowout. This is a hazardous condition to yourself and other vehicles near you.
If your tires or wheels are ever damaged due to road hazards such as metal, nails, glass, debris, or potholes, we will replace them for up to seven (7) years. Optional Cosmetic Coverage also offers you the additional coverage of cosmetic wheel repair, so your new vehicle can continue to look its best for years to come.
Brake dust forms every time you press on the pedal. The friction causes tiny pieces of metal from your brake pad to become loose and stick to the rims of your wheels. Brake dust buildup will occur if you do not clean your BMW`s wheel regularly.

Can front wheel drive car engine power rear wheel drive
ANSWER : Anything is possible with enough engineering. The changes you are looking at would take major structural changes and would definitely not be an easy job. You could possibly consult a manufacturing engineer to get more details on how this could actually be carried out and whether it would be feasible.

Popping noise, wheels won’t turn
ANSWER : For your 2001 Chrysler LHS, the inner tie rods are attached to the steering gear with a retaining bolt and a lock tab. If the bolts are not torqued enough and the lock tab engaged, the bolts can back out and fall off. Have the bolts replaced with new lock tabs. Make sure the new bolts are tightened to specified torque of 75 ft lbs. following technical bulletin 19-001-01. I would also recommend having all the steering components checked for damaged.

4 wheel high wont work, 2 wheel and 4 wheel low will. 1997 GMC Sierra Electronic shift (of course). Replaced the front axel actuat
ANSWER : You are correct to think that the transfer case itself or the control module for it could be causing this issue. The only other possibility would be a wiring issue directly behind the switch preventing the four wheel drive high setting from working properly. I would enlist in the assistance of a qualified professional to check your four wheel drive circuit with a wiring diagram and digital multimeter to determine if the issue is electrical or mechanical. Once this has been done, the correct repair procedure can be identified.

How to make front wheel drive car to a rare wheel or all wheel drive
ANSWER : You would be better off trading the vehicle out for a vehicle that has all wheel drive. There is no way to add the additional drive you want.

I don’t know if I have two mufflers or one if I do have one what does the other one do ? Thank you.
ANSWER : When you look under the back of the car and you see only one pipe out the back then you have only one muffler and a resonator. The resonator is near the back and is used for lowering the exhaust noise more and giving it a better tone. If you see two pipes out the back then you may have only one muffler but two resonators. Next time you have a service done, then ask the mechanic to see what you have since there are different models of Accords and they may have different exhaust configurations.

I hear an abnormal noise from front driver’s side wheel. It sounds like a wheel bearing but not sure.
ANSWER : A wheel bearing noise can be different between vehicles as some designs may vary a little. The most common is a roaring noise that may change when going around turns. It may be louder going in one direction or the other or just make a loud noise all of the time. The wheel hub presses into the wheel bearing. The hub is where the studs are for the wheel to be bolted onto the steering knuckle and the bearing provides the support for the wheel and weight of the vehicle. Consider hiring an experienced technician like one from YourMechanic who can come out and take a closer look at your wheel bearing noise to offer a more personal diagnosis.

What would cause an oil gasket cover to crack? I mean a big crack and not one but 2 covers?
ANSWER : Typically the causes of plastic cover breakage are overtightening of the fasteners used to retain the cover and/or if the cover mounting surface is distorted. The tightening torque is in the low inch pounds and if you don’t use an inch pound torque wrench it is easy to ruin the cover. Also, be sure any anti-crush metal inserts are installed in the cover which are used to prevent over torquing. It is also possible that internal components are contacting the cover so just be sure all components are installed properly per the Factory Service Manual. If you desire an inspection of what you have, and replacement of the cover, please refer to YourMechanic’s timing cover replacement page and the responding certified mechanic will get this taken care of for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.
