Vibration

My car started vibrating at around 30 mph it seemed to stop when I let off the gas. I changed the u joint and it didn't make a difference. The next day the vibrations go allot worse. It starts at 25 mph and gets worse the faster you go it doesn't matter if I'm hitting the gas or not now. I have no vibration in the steering wheel or gas pedal.

My car has 230000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
If the vibration is not felt through the steering wheel but rather is felt through the car body, it could possibly be due to wheel/tire assembly imbalance in the rear and/or defective tires in the rear. Another, somewhat less common possibility is suspension faults, again in the rear, such as strut/shock failure. Certain tire defects, particularly internal belt damage or separations, as well as irregular tire wear will cause vibration. Defective tires will vibrate no matter how "well" balanced they are and indeed some brand new tires with irregularities in sidewall stiffness and excessive radial force variation will vibrate no matter how well balanced. Contributing factors in the circumstance you are describing could be worn struts in the suspension. If there are flat spots on the tire tread, that would be indicative of worn struts. If you request a noise/vibration diagnostic, a certified mechanic from YourMechanic would evaluate all the possibilities, including tire balance, and resolve this for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

Any unusual shaking or vibrating forces coming from the engine is cause for concern. It could be something as simple as old spark plugs producing an uneven power delivery, it could be something serious like worn or broken engine mounts, or it could be even more serious in the case of internal engine damage.
The most common reasons a Chevrolet Trailblazer has rough idle are a vacuum leak, an issue with the spark plugs, or a problem with the ignition coil.
The camshaft(s) is(are) adjusted by the engine computer through the use of an oil control valve(s) (OCV), also called variable valve timing control solenoid valves. When trouble code P0014 is set, it means that the exhaust camshaft in Bank 1 is more advanced than the engine computer has told it to be.
What Does Chevrolet Trailblazer Code P0303 Mean? Chevrolet Trailblazer P0303 definition: Cylinder 3 misfire detected. Issue Severity: SEVERE – Stop driving immediately. Repair Urgency: Fix this code immediately (same-day if possible) to avoid ignition failure, catalytic converter damage, and dangerous conditions.
The most prevalent cause of vibration is problems with your wheels or tires. The potential problems include improper wheel and tire balance, uneven tire wear, separated tire tread, out of round tires, damaged wheels and even loose lug nuts.
Typically, the idle speed will be set at a value in the range of 600 to 800 RPM, but the exact value will depend on the number of engine cylinders and whether the vehicle is equipped with a manual or automatic transmission.
Oxygen (O2) sensor

An oxygen sensor monitors and analyzes the amount of oxygen in a vehicle`s exhaust system after combustion. A dirty, damaged or malfunctioning O2 sensor (or sensors) affects the air/fuel mixture, causing the engine to idle rough.

P0013 is a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for “B Camshaft Position – Open or Short in Oil Control Valve (OCV) (Bank 1)“.
Engine code P0014 can be caused by several issues, including low oil levels, problems with the camshaft variable timing solenoid or camshaft phaser, etc. Depending on the diagnosis, you may need to correct or replace: Old oil (get an oil change) using the proper oil viscosity for the engine.
The P0302 error code indicates that cylinder two is misfiring and not receiving enough spark to its spark plug.
Chevrolet Trailblazer P0304 Causes

Cylinder 4 misfires can be caused by many reasons from a faulty ignition system, fuel system, or internal engine failure. The most common reason for this to happen is faulty or worn-out spark plug coil packs, especially if it`s been a while since you had a tune-up.

No, as the P0303 cylinder misfire code is highly critical. If your vehicle has the engine light turned on and the PCM registers this OBD-II trouble code, you should stop driving immediately.
Vibration-induced white finger (VWF) is the most common condition among the operators of hand-held vibrating tools. The symptoms of VWF are aggravated when the hands are exposed to cold. Vibration can cause changes in tendons, muscles, bones and joints, and can affect the nervous system.
To avoid this, Hart recommends taking a few moments to pause and just breathe throughout the day to quickly reset your vibration. Whether you take a walk around the block or do a mini-meditation in the bathroom, every breath and quiet moment will help shift the way you feel.
The most common reason is bad motor mounts. They are designed to stabilize the car engine while driving. That`s why disconnected or defective motor mounts will make your car shaking at idle. A broken timing belt can also be the reason for engine shaking.
Automatic transmissions that shift hard, jerk or shake during a shift change may mean your transmission fluid needs changed or fluid level is low. In manual transmission vehicles, abnormal gear shifts could indicate damaged gear synchros, worn clutches or other, more severe issues.
The cause of phantom vibrations is not known. Preliminary research suggests it is related to over-involvement with one`s cell phone, as smartphone dependence is associated with occurrence of phantom phone signals. Vibrations typically begin occurring after carrying a phone for between one month and one year.

My car started idleing rough, vibrations soon as start car, vibrations soon as I accelerate, vibrations, rough idle bad
ANSWER : This sound like you may be having an engine misfire. Have the system checked and scanned to see if codes are present for an engine misfire. If it is, then a mechanic can check to see if a coil or spark plug has failed. You may have oil leaks in the valve cover seals that has caused the ignition to short out in the spark plug holes. A repair of your valve cover gaskets may be necessary, along with the other components that I’ve mentioned. I’d recommend having the vehicle looked at by a qualified technician who will be able to diagnose these misfiring symptoms and fix it accordingly.

severe steering wheel vibration at speeds above 60 mph, but not below 60, and severe vibration during braking.
ANSWER : If you can wiggle the tire side to side then you either have a problem with inner or outer tie rod ends. You may have both of them that are bad. This will allow the side-to-side movement, but brake rotors that are warped is the fault that may be responsible for the wobbling. You should have the tie rod inner and outer joints checked and replaced. Also check the rack and pinion bushings to make sure they are properly in place. If you need help with any of this, a certified mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic can come to your car’s location to inspect your vehicle’s vibration issue.

Vibrates at 65 mph
ANSWER : A few different things can cause the vehicle to vibrate at freeway speeds. The brake rotors, brake pads, and tire balance are a great place to start. Other common causes would be the tire itself, bent rim, wheel bearing, or a suspension component failure. I suggest getting assistance from a qualified technician who will be able to diagnose the vibration you’re experiencing and perform any repairs that are required.

Engine vibrates alot…….whole car vibrates
ANSWER : Hi there. This is a mount problem. It is very common for the engine mounts to fail on a Mazda Premacy and still visually look good. I always remove them to physically check them for damage and wear. It can also be a harmonic balancer issue as I have seen these start to come loose and cause this. If you want to have this repaired, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to your home or office to diagnose the shaking you’re experiencing.

I have an engine vibration that starts when I am in idle.
ANSWER : The engine vibration will need to be checked to see if it is worse in drive than it is in reverse. If the vibration is less apparent in reverse, then the motor mounts will need to be neutralized to center the motor mounts. If the vibration is even when the engine is in neutral, then the engine crankshaft damper is bad and causing the engine vibration. I recommend having a certified mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, check to see if the motor mounts or the engine damper is at fault. They will be able to diagnose your engine vibration and ensure that the correct repairs are made on your vehicle.

Vehicle vibrates while accelerating and stops when you take your leg off the pedal or accelerate more
ANSWER : I suspect you have a problem in a CV joint, or if you have the all wheel drive version; in a drive shaft. The joints that enable the shafts to move around can wear out and when they do, they can produce a vibration at "resonate" speeds. There might be a vibration at 40 MPH that smooths out at 50 and then returns at 60. Or any other odd sounding pattern. You can have that conveniently checked out by contacting Your Mechanic. They can send a technician to your home or office who can check out your Toyota’s vibration and give you a more exact idea of what is the problem and what it will take to fix it.
