AC blows hot air. Replaced the relay switch and recharged the AC and it worked for a few days before blowing hot air. I can hear a clicking sound from actuator in the glove box when adjusting ac controls. Best advice to have my AC working agin? Thank you
My car has an automatic transmission.
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
If the A/C system was working properly (producing cold output) and then just "suddenly" stopped, broadly there are two possibilities: 1) you have a leak and consequently the refrigerant level is too low; or 2) the refrigerant charge is undisturbed (no leak) but for some reason the compressor has stopped functioning. If you request an a/c inspection/diagnostic, the bottom line is the responding certified mechanic will get it resolved quickly but here is an indication of some of what’s involved in diagnosing this. Using pressure gauges one first determines if there is any charge at all in the system. If there is a charge, you can attempt to command the compressor on and then see if high and low side pressures look reasonable (in range). If the pressures are good and the compressor does function, you move on to see why the clutch is not engaging when YOU command the A/C on via the switch at the dash. If, however, the mechanic cannot directly activate the clutch and get the compressor to even run, that typically means the compressor clutch is bad. Sometimes the clutch can just be changed on the car, so no big deal and you don’t even have to "open up" the a/c system. Other possibilities include a faulty low or high side safety switch which fault also prevents the compressor from starting. If you request the a/c inspection/diagnostic, the mechanic will resolve this. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

This clicking noise is the result of a failed door actuator; more specifically, it is because the teeth on the plastic gear inside have sheared and are now slipping. Nearly all of these failures have been traced back to using an aftermarket door actuator in the vehicle.
Directly behind the glove box is the fan. The cabin filter is supposed to keep debris out of the fan, but something like a leaf stem touching the fan can also cause a tapping sound that is faster with increased fan speed.
AC clicking noises can stem from fan blades that have been bent or are misaligned which causes the AC to sound like it`s clicking on and off. A stick or piece of detritus could have also gotten caught in the vent, causing the fan to click against the object.
Generally, a noisy actuator does not indicate an actual problem. It is caused by the friction between the urethane belt and the nickel plated pulley surfaces as they rub together during engagement causing a squeak just like your new sneaks on a gym floor .
If you notice a clicking noise while driving, check your engine oil. If your oil is not low or dirty, you may be dealing with a problem with the car`s battery, starter, axles, or brakes. Check each component carefully to diagnose the issue, or take it to a trusted mechanic.
It might be a battery or alternator problem.

A rapid clicking noise when trying to start your car could mean there`s something wrong within the electrical system. Perhaps your battery`s dead, or your alternator, which charges the battery, isn`t working correctly.

For example, if your AC is making a clicking noise and won`t start, it may be due to faulty or worn electrical connections to the system. These connections are aptly known as contactors. In order for your AC system to function properly it needs a signal from the contactor.
The easiest explanation for your AC not turning on is a thermostat problem. Check to ensure your thermostat is on, set to “cool,” and that the temperature is set to a few degrees cooler than the normal ambient temperature of your home. You may also need to replace the batteries.
If the compressor is turning on and off fairly quickly then that means that there is still a pressure issue. It can be caused by low refrigerant or high pressure. It can also be caused by a bad A/C pressure switch. Any of these will cause this to occur.
It is the job of the AC actuator to control the opening and closing of the airflow in response to the thermostat, thus controlling air movement and allowing cool air to blow down the ducts and into the house.
The sound will typically emanate from underneath the dashboard. Knocking sound: This is one of the more unusual symptoms of a faulty blend door actuator; it will sound as though someone is knocking on your door. If you hear it, you`ll notice it most right after you start the vehicle.
A ticking sound in your engine while idling could come from something as simple as natural wear and tear. Many components, like the injectors, are designed to make ticking noises. The valvetrain will also click when it gets older. It`s an excellent indicator that your components may be reaching the end of their life.
Loose Brake Pads

The design of the brake pads assures that they are secured to the brake caliper seat. If they come loose, then the pad is allowed to jump up and down when the brake is applied. This action produces a clicking sound when driving slowly or when braking while driving at a slow speed.

If the furnace is running normally but there`s a clicking sound coming from the ductwork or air vents, there might be a cracked or loose duct. You can have a technician check for this the next time you call them for duct cleaning. Damaged ductwork should be replaced immediately.
The blend door actuator is controlled by the vehicle`s climate controls. The blend door can open and close at various positions to block or allow air passing through the heater core in order to achieve the desired temperature inside of the vehicle.

My 2003 ford explorer wont start up just get click click click click click click click click
ANSWER : If the battery is weak and the voltage is dropping to below 9 volts you will get the clicking without the starter turning the motor. Have the battery voltage checked and if battery cannot hold a load then replace it and clean the battery terminals and recheck system to see if it starts.

Honda Civic 2008. AC stopped working suddenly and engine check light came ON for a day.Next day AC worked and no engine light.
ANSWER : Hi there. In both cases, when an AC system is not working and a warning light is coming on the dashboard, typically a professional mechanic will complete the same initial inspection, which is to download the stored error codes that triggered the warning light initially. This tends to give them an idea as to what is causing the problems. This could be something as simple as an electrical relay that is faulty or loose or an indication of a computer related "glitch". Either way, the best way to move forward is to have a professional mobile mechanic complete a check engine light inspection.

On start AC is working fine, after 5-10 mins i am starting to hear loud fast clicking noises.!?
ANSWER : The compressor clutch on the vehicle may be caused by an excessive clutch to pulley gap or an excessive resistance in the compressor field coil. A check on the gap in the pulley to clutch can be performed by using a feeler gauge and the coil can be checked using a multimeter. If either is out of specs then repair or replace it as necessary. I’d suggest getting your vehicle inspected by a qualified technician, such as one from YourMechanic, to perform these checks and properly diagnose your A/C issue firsthand.

If I get my blower motor replaced, do I also have to have my Ac recharged after replacing blower motor?
ANSWER : The blower motor on this vehicle is a simple removal and installation and does not require anything to be touched on the A/C. The refrigerant does not have to be removed. The only component that has to be removed is the glove box under cover to get to the blower motor.

Idling problems and flashing check engine light clicking noise being glove box by relay
ANSWER : The green key flashing is an immobilizer which can be caused for many reasons including a simple bad battery connection. The rough idle problem suggests a potentially bad idle air control module which regulates the air flow into the intake system as it is mixed with fuel prior to being injected into the motor. When this is faulty, it will cause the car not to idle correctly or intermittently. The bad battery connection may also be responsible for the gauges not working as well. I would recommend having an expert from YourMechanic come to your home to diagnose this rough idling issue with a scanning tool which will provide vital information from the car’s computer indicating the problem.

My AC is not working took it the mechanic and he told me that’s it has a blown fuse box which is causing my AC not to work?
ANSWER : Hi there. I have not seen a fuse box fail very often on this vehicle. It is possible that he meant to say that the fuse for the AC is blown which makes a lot more sense. Most of the time when the AC fuse blows it is because the compressor is failing and has a short in the clutch.

The circuit is going to have to be tested for a short to confirm why the fuse blew. It can take some time to trace the wires, though it is probably the compressor. If you need to have this diagnosed, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to your home or office to inspect your AC system.

Just replaced head gasket, changed crack sensor new plugs. The check engine light is on, but dim, the only other light that the dash is a normal battery indicator. The fuel pump is not running when switch is turned on, the power windows don’t work, it turns over but not firing. It’s like only one part of the system is working. Also the heater fans work even if the switch is off.
ANSWER : I would first look at the diagnostic trouble codes. Those codes are available because the check engine light is on. If the fuel pump is not running (momentarily) at key on, that fault alone will prevent the car from starting as there will be no fuel pressure. Pump output and pressure can be directly tested and you can also check for electrical power to the pump. To find out why the engine will not run, the recommended diagnostic is a no start diagnostic. If you request that service, the responding certified mechanic will get this taken care of for you.
