How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

The throttle position sensor is housed within a black cover located on the driver side of the engine bay between the cylinder head and the battery tray.
Notoriously, every model and rendition of the ISX has had issues with the camshaft. It`s prone to flattening out. This is largely because of an issue with the rocker arms. An issue in production with the rocker arms starved the components of proper oil from which makes them stick and hit the camshaft.
A: The throttle position sensor is designed to last the lifetime of your vehicle, but things don`t always go according to plan. Any number of things can cause problems with the TPS, from electrical system issues to physical damage, none of which can be predicted ahead of time.
The GMC Sierra 1500 uses a throttle position sensor (TPS) which commonly fails and causes: Check engine light illumination. Reduced Power message. OBD trouble code P2135.
Code errors can cause your throttle position sensor to work erratically or incorrectly. Otherwise, you`ll need professional software to reprogram your sensor. This job is best done by a professional mechanic. If your sensor just needs repairs, it could be the result of faulty or loose wiring.
If you start to experience engine misfires, stalling, or rough idling when the car is stopped, it can also be a warning sign of a failing TPS. You don`t want to wait to get this checked out! If the idling appears off, it means the computer is unable to identify the fully shut throttle.
Low maintenance: An ISX15 engine can run up to 15,000 miles between oil and filter changes.
Higher torque is delivered earlier in the rpm range so you can cruise at 1150 – 1240 rpm and still get the torque and power needed to match real-time load demand.
While it may have a maximum power output of 600 HP and torque of 2000 lb-ft, the ISX proved problematic from the start. The fuel option did little to address these problems. Ultimately, the ISX fell short of a top-tier Cummins engine offering.
Problem Description

Bad throttle position sensors can cause high idle without causing the Check Engine Light to illuminate.

To verify that it is working correctly, connect the negative meter probe to positive tab on the TPS wire and then connect the positive probe to the negative tab. If everything is functioning properly, the reading on the multimeter should be at about 5 volts.
Not usually. The car will have a default idle position, even if the sensor is faulty, and should allow you a maximum amount of revs to be able to get somewhere to have it repaired, or to get off the road safely etc. It will be in “limp mode”, but will not be the reason the engine stalls.

Can front wheel drive car engine power rear wheel drive
ANSWER : Anything is possible with enough engineering. The changes you are looking at would take major structural changes and would definitely not be an easy job. You could possibly consult a manufacturing engineer to get more details on how this could actually be carried out and whether it would be feasible.

I have a 2010 camry. I just recently replaced the engine with a 2014 camry engine. Now I have Four engine lights on. I replaced on
ANSWER : If you swapped the engine from a vehicle that is 4 years newer than the car is then you are going to have electrical and sensor incompatibilities that may not be able to be fixed by just a few sensor replacements. There were many changes in computer and emission related items between 2010 and 2014 engines. I would recommend having a mechanic like one from YourMechanic come to you and compare the two engines to isolate the possible differences and see if the problem can be fixed.

How do you replace the rear & side engine mounts without lifting out the engine? & how do you lift the engine out?
ANSWER : Hi…thank you for your questions. If required in the application, a portable engine support bar is used to support an engine during mount replacement. The support bar has lifting capability as well so that the mount can be unloaded and removed. If a particular repair application requires a "crane" (complete engine removal for instance), such are portable these days in any event. With regard to the exhaust system repair, mechanics use ramps to gain access. Six ton portable jack stands will safely support a car two feet into the air which provides more than enough access to repair or replace any exhaust system component. If you desire replacement of the mounts, please refer to YourMechanic’s motor mount replacement service page. For exhaust leaks, please use the exhaust system inspection/repair page page. Once on each of those service pages, if you click on "Get a Quote" and enter your vehicle information (year, make, model) you can obtain cost info and schedule the service. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

Kia Sporate Engine check light issue and car stalled this morning!
ANSWER : The infamous "loose gas cap code" is P0442. P0434 is an issue with a heated catalytic converter not coming up to temperature quickly enough. It can be caused by the fuel injection being too rich. If you starter is not turning your engine over, the issue could be a dead battery.

If you can get it jumped off, most auto parts stores will check the battery for free. They will also, time permitting, check your engine codes for free. This will help guide diagnosis for whatever else is still wrong with your vehicle.

If you need assistance with the repairs from here, I would recommend having your Check Engine Light inspected by a certified technician, like one from YourMechanic, to diagnose the problem, get an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs. YourMechanic can dispatch a mobile, professional mechanic to your location for this repair.

Engine malfunction light, reduced engine power, engine powered down
ANSWER : Hi there. There are a lot of things that can cause this on your 2012 BMW M5. I usually start by scanning the computer for codes to see what comes up. If there are not codes then I load test the alternator and the battery to see if they are failing. Low voltage in the electrical system will cause this. If that is fine, then it is usually caused by a failing throttle body. I have seen a lot of these fail due to the motors in them hanging up. If the problem is only happening intermittently, this can make the issue hard to duplicate, but you can still have tests done on the car. If you are going to have this fixed, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to your home or office to test the vehicle and diagnose the Engine Malfunction Light.

Car sometimes give me acceleration and power issues. Engine power reduced message and engine light appear intermittently.
ANSWER : It is possible that your vehicle’s PCM has failed. This is somewhat of a common problem amongst many GM vehicles. If the computer has failed, this could be one of the reasons that no trouble codes are appearing and the fact that the problem is intermittent. It is possible that the computer is somehow getting overheated and by stopping the vehicle for a short period of time, the PCM cools down allowing the vehicle to run again. I would recommend having your PCM tested for proper function by a certified technician with experience in computer diagnostics.

Honda Civic 2008. AC stopped working suddenly and engine check light came ON for a day.Next day AC worked and no engine light.
ANSWER : Hi there. In both cases, when an AC system is not working and a warning light is coming on the dashboard, typically a professional mechanic will complete the same initial inspection, which is to download the stored error codes that triggered the warning light initially. This tends to give them an idea as to what is causing the problems. This could be something as simple as an electrical relay that is faulty or loose or an indication of a computer related "glitch". Either way, the best way to move forward is to have a professional mobile mechanic complete a check engine light inspection.
