You can try putting a 15 amp fuse in the slot and see if the seat works. Try to avoid using a high amp fuse for if there is a problem with the heater you don’t want to burn it. If nothing seems to work, then the heater in the seat has failed and needs replaced.
If you need further assistance troubleshooting your vehicle, then seek out a technician, such as one from Your Mechanic, that can assist you with a seat inspection at your home or office. Best of luck.
Put the car seat on the center of the seat that you wish to secure it to and make sure it rests in a natural, level position.
Carefully read the manual to your car seat to ensure that you know how the seat belt should be properly looped through the child restraint and whether or not the seat needs to be tethered at the top to be secured.
Loop the lap and shoulder belts through the car seat and fasten the latch plate into the seat belt buckle. After it is secured, pull the shoulder belt all of the way out and then let it retract, as this will lock the belt in place. Push down on the car seat and pull on the shoulder bet to remove slack.
If the seat needs a top tether, then locate the top tether anchors either on the tops of the passenger seat or against the rear panel (regular cab only).
If using the seatback-mounted tether anchors, loop the tether(s) through both the tether anchor on the seat the car seat is secured into and the center tether anchor.
If using a tether anchor mounted onto the rear panel, then the tether needs to be uncovered and the tether(s) coming from the seat must not stretch over the headrest.
Tips
Do not install a car seat in the center passenger seat. This is dangerous as the center seats, if available, are not designed to secure a car seat.
Rear-facing car seats cannot be used in the front passenger seat. The airbag can be deactivated, but even the slight chance of it going off in a crash is too great. A child in a rear-facing seat during a crash is likely to suffer a broken neck or skull.
Shake the seat around once it is installed to ensure that it is secure. If it moves more than an inch in any direction, tighten the seat belt or re-install the car seat.
Move the passenger seat as far back as possible.
Place the booster seat on the passenger seat.
Make sure it’s pushed as far back as it will go.
Have your child sit in the seat.
Route the seat belt correctly so that the lap belt is over your child’s hips and the
shoulder belt runs across the chest and over the shoulder.
It may be necessary to remove the passenger seat’s head restraint to ensure the seat sits correctly.
Tip
The Air Bag Off light will turn on to tell you that the passenger front air bag has been turned off.
If a car seat meant to hold a small child is installed in the front passenger seat, the sensors in the seat should communicate this to the truck’s computer and the truck will not activate the airbags. The passenger airbag indicator light, located above the windshield, in front of the mirror, should read “Off”. If this light instead reads “On”, here’s what you can do:
One reason this may be happening involves the carseat itself. If the angle of the seat cushion and seatback is too narrow, the seatback will push the car seat into the cushion. Reclining the seat slightly may alleviate the problem.
If this doesn’t work, the vehicle should be turned off and the car seat removed. Re-install the car seat, being careful to make sure the seat isn’t wedged against the seat cushion. If the light is still in the “On” position after this, the truck may need to be serviced. It is not safe to carry a child in a car seat if the airbag is active.
If the passenger airbag indicator light is in the “Off” position when there is an adult seated in the passenger seat, then there are a few ways to get it to activate:
Make sure nothing is jammed into the seat (sweatshirt, blanket, etc.) or seat belt buckle.
If the light is still in the “Off” position, then turn the vehicle off and back on again with the passenger outside of the vehicle. When they once again take their seat, make sure the seatback is at a reasonable angle and that they are sitting with their feet on the floor. If this does not yield results, the truck may need servicing.
