Engine Fuse Box

The PCM fuse on my under the hood fuse box burned and melted. The car won't start. Now that entire back row is not receiving any power. I've changed the fuses back there and they are still not working. The other fuses are the injectors and the ignition coils. My question is Do I have to replace the entire fuse box? Does this affect the car starting? If I have to replace the box, do I need to cut and rewire the new box? Thank you.

My car has 177000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Yes, you should replace the entire fuse box. The reason for this is that it is quite likely that when the box burned other connections inside the fuse box were also damaged. This will in fact affect the vehicle starting as well. I would suggest having an expert from YourMechanic come to your home to diagnose your starting issue and replace your fuse box if necessary.

Your vehicle has a pre-fuse box located in the engine compartment attached to the positive battery post. This box contains several high current fuses. If replacement of these high current fuses is required, see an authorized dealer.
The most common reasons a Mercury Grand Marquis won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.
The car fuse box under the hood protects engine components including engine control unit (ECU), cooling fan, ABS motor and battery. Whereas the fuse box near the dashboard protects cabin components like power windows, interior lights, radio or infotainment system and turn signals.
In most cars, it will be under the hood, in a large box with a black lid. This is where car fuses and relays are installed. It is also called a fuse box. This box is usually installed on the driver`s side of the vehicle.
If your vehicle won`t start, it`s usually caused by a dying or dead battery, loose or corroded connection cables, a bad alternator or an issue with the starter. It can be hard to determine if you`re dealing with a battery or an alternator problem.
Fuse boxes are often located inside the cockpit, the dashboard or the engine compartment. Those in the engine compartment protect engine components such as the cooling system and engine control unit. The interior fuse box looks after electrics in the cabin area, such as lighting.
The constant fuses are the fuses that light up your circuit tester. If you find a combination of both constant and switched fuses in your fuse box – great!
The first thing to do is find your main fuse box (these days called a consumer unit), which will be in the same place as your electricity meter. They`re often in the main hallway of a house, in a purpose-built cupboard.
If your car has no power, it may be a sign that your alternator is beginning to wear out. When your alternator stops functioning, your vehicle relies solely on the battery to power its electrical system. Once your battery runs out, everything in your vehicle will shut down.

Fuse boxes are typically located in your home`s basement, garage, or utility room. If you have an older home, you may have a fuse box instead of a circuit breaker. Fuse boxes are not as common as they once were, but they can still be found in some homes.

Passenger seat heater not working properly.
ANSWER : Hello and thank you for contacting YourMechanic. The book says that you can use a 15, 20, 25, or 30 amp fuse. The power to the heaters are operated through the wiring to the main harness. There could have been a wire tied into it to make the seat work on the same circuit as the driver seat. This is common to find in the vehicles.

You can try putting a 15 amp fuse in the slot and see if the seat works. Try to avoid using a high amp fuse for if there is a problem with the heater you don’t want to burn it. If nothing seems to work, then the heater in the seat has failed and needs replaced.

If you need further assistance troubleshooting your vehicle, then seek out a technician, such as one from Your Mechanic, that can assist you with a seat inspection at your home or office. Best of luck.

I took an engine from a 2002 Dodge Intrepid and put it in a 2000 Chrysler 300M do I need to leave the fuse block under the hood fr
ANSWER : Hi there. I wish we could really help you, but the reality is that this type of engine swap always has issues like you’ve described, but the fuse box is only one part of the issue you’re going to have to deal with. The main issue is due to the fact that the ECU and electrical system in the original vehicle does not connection correctly with the newer engine you have installed. Having engines link with the existing ECU happens about 50% of the time. The only way to resolve this problem is to contact a dealership, purchase a new ECU and have them program it to the new engine. In regards to the fuse box, replacing one from the vehicle, not the engine is best.

Car blows ecm run/start fuse after starting and then dies replaced fuse and repeats
ANSWER : Hi there. Typically when this issue occurs, damage will be instant – meaning if it’s going to damage the ECU, replacing the fuses would not help start the vehicle. So, at first glance, I would assume the ECU is OK. What is more likely is that you have an exposed wire somewhere that is causing the fuses to pop. Trying to diagnose these issues can be tricky sometimes, so it might be a good idea to have a professional mechanic complete an electrical problems inspection to isolate why you’re having these issues and recommend the right repairs.

have to push on main fuse box to get the engine to start and idol
ANSWER : You need to first check all the fuses, the connections at the battery cables, and the connection at the cable to the fuse box. My guess is that there is likely a loose connection at the fuse box or at the main battery cable to the starter, and pushing on the fuse box moves everything in just the right way to make a better connection. It’s also very possible that there was another fuse blown when the other work was being done. If the connections are good, and the fuses are all good, then you should have a professional technician, such as one from YourMechanic, diagnose the no start issue that you’re having.
