Battery light stays on and overnight battery drain. 2006 Land Rover LR3

Why do I have a persistent battery drain on my LR3 after replacing the battery and alternator? Even worse, the battery light stays on.
I took my car for an engine wash. Ever since, my battery light never went off. Stays permanently on.

I"m sure the alternator is working cos i replaced it and check always with a Multi-meter; and I've bought a brand new battery twice in 6 months.

The car discharges the battery overnight. But starts straight up on a jump start.

Please, i need help. My mechanics have not been able to help.

Its really frustrating.

My car has 100000 miles.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hi there – yes, something is going on here that’s draining your battery. Perhaps the pressure of the engine wash dislodged wiring which has shorted, or there was a chemical reaction to the cleaning solution that caused electrical damage in the alternator or voltage regulator. These componnents can be checked off of the vehicle. Vehicle wiring can be diagnosed by connecting an ammeter to the positive (red) battery cable, observe the current drain (likely less than 1 amp), then, one at a time, remove each fuse, check to see if the current drain has dropped to near 0, then reinsert the fuse. This process should identify the faulty circuit in most cases. The specific components on that circuit can then be checked for current drain problems. A professional mechanic, like YourMechanic, can come to your location, and perform this procedure for you, and replace/repair the failing component.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

There are many reasons why the car battery light might come on, but the most common reasons are: An old car battery. Car battery connections that are corroded. Car battery cables that are misconnected.
If the Battery Light illuminated before the engine died, then you most likely have an issue with your alternator not charging, and you drove it until the battery went dead, stopping the fuel and ignition systems from working anymore.
These trustworthy batteries, also known as LR03 or Micro batteries, can be used to power numerous applications in your household. Its applications range from use in TV remotes, electrical toothbrushes and kitchen scales to alarm clocks, toys and torches.
A dashboard battery light basically means there`s a battery charging problem. Your car isn`t getting enough voltage from the car battery to operate properly.
Can I Keep Driving My Car if the Battery Light Is On? Yes, you can, for a short time. The light indicates that the alternator isn`t charging the battery, which means your car`s electrical system isn`t getting the needed power.
It is possible that the problems that you have been experiencing with the bad alternators have damaged the battery causing it to be weak. This would make the Battery Light come on. It is also possible that there is a problem with the fusible link or the alternator fuse for the charging system.
The four common types of batteries used in cars are lithium-ion batteries, lead acid batteries, SLI batteries and deep cycle batteries. The four common types of batteries used in cars are lithium-ion batteries, lead acid batteries, SLI batteries and deep cycle batteries.
The most obvious difference between a AA battery and a AAA battery is the size. AA batteries tend to be larger than AAA ones both in height and length. A AAA battery also tends to be more slender, which makes it ideal for smaller devices since it won`t take up too much space.
What may drain a car battery when it`s off are things such as interior lights, door lights, or even bad relays. While your engine runs, the alternator recharges the battery — which is why you typically don`t have to worry about the battery dying while you`re blasting the radio on your drive to work!
An illuminated battery indicator can be caused by a number of issues, including: A loose or corroded battery cable. A problem with the alternator or voltage regulator. Damaged cells or plates inside the battery.
Probably, the most common symptom associated with a bad regulator is flickering, dimming, or pulsing lights. To be more specific, you may notice that the vehicle`s: Headlights fluctuate between bright and dim, without you doing anything. High beam isn`t working as expected.
The red battery light basically means that there is an issue with your alternator, your battery, or some other part of the charging system which could be as minor as cabling or as major as a computer malfunction.
A critical battery notification indicates that battery is almost empty, and you should replace the batteries in that device immediately. You will receive instructions on how to change the batteries in your device at the same time as your alert.

I have Chrysler 300c. Battery light came on, changed battery and alternator but power still getting drained and battery light still comes on.
ANSWER : Hi, thanks for writing in. This may be a sign of a failing starter relay. The starter relay is a small unit near the starter that directs power to the starter from the battery. When this fails, it may cause a clicking sound and will not allow the starter to engage the flywheel when you turn the key. I would suggest having a professional from YourMechanic come to your home to diagnose your starting issue to determine the solution to get you back on the road.

in my car battery warning light appearing while driving.so I have replaced both battery and alternater still light is on
ANSWER : As you may yourself have seen, there are many reports of this fault with the Civic, that is a battery or alternator is replaced only to have the warning light fail to extinguish despite checking every conceivable electrical possibility. Your only recourse is to have a certified mechanic go through that exercise with your car and that involves first attempting to "re-set" the light. If the warning light returns, the alternator output has to be carefully measured both loaded and unloaded. All terminal connections have to be verified including all grounds. Fuses have to be checked for integrity (continuity) and the possibility of shorts, in for example dash wiring, has to be checked. To request this repair, simply request an electrical components diagnostic and the responding certified mechanic will seek a resolution to this.

Oil pressure and battery light stay on when ignition is off.
ANSWER : Hello. If this is occurring, then there is a short in the electrical someplace. Most of the time, the issue is in the ignition switch. The switch fails internally and causes some circuits to stay on which will drain the battery. It can also be a short in the harness or in the fuse box but the ignition switch is the most common on this car.

If you want to have this electrical issue checked out, consider having a certified mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, come to your home or office to inspect the electrical system and suggest any necessary repairs.

The Battery Light is on and the lights and power mirrors are not working – 2002 Mercedes-Benz C320
ANSWER : Hi. If the Battery Light is on, this an indication that either the battery is bad, the alternator is not charging properly, or both of them are bad. Low battery voltage will cause the car to do abnormal things like have no headlights. There are other things that can cause headlights to not work as well, for example, a blown fuse, broken headlight relay, or, the most common cause, blown headlight bulbs.

I suggest you have a certified technician, such as one from YourMechanic, come to your location to determine why the Battery Light is on and suggest the necessary repairs.

Battery drains quickly, New battery,Heavy drain, Replaced alternator , drain still there, goes away when bat. main 2 fuse is pulled
ANSWER : Hi there. It’s quite possible that you have one of two things causing the drain to the battery. First, you have a bad ground somewhere in the main relay or fuse box or an exposed wire somewhere that is not allowing the circuit to complete from the alternator to the battery. This can cause a battery draining issue as you’re describing, but it could also be one of multiple other electrical problems. The best way to pinpoint the exact source is to have a professional mobile mechanic come to your location and complete a battery will not hold a charge inspection.

LED lights and radio, air stay on and drain battery
ANSWER : Parasitic draws can be difficult to pinpoint at times. If the door lock is only working with the key, it sounds like the most likely cause is the door security control not working properly. The vehicle waits for all doors to be shut and the doors to be locked before shutting off all systems and going to sleep. A qualified technician, like one from YourMechanic, will be able to diagnose your battery drain and perform any repairs that are required.
