Yaw sensor needs replacement

The check engine light came on and the Hyundai dealer said it was the yaw sensor. They quoted a $578 price for the part and $115 to install and calibrate. Does the 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe with the V6 engine require recalibration when the yaw sensor is replaced? I understand the yaw sensor is located under the center console and would be an easy repair if the calibration is not needed. Which is something I could do since I was an auto mechanic in the early 1970's pre-computer era. I could buy the part new from Hyundai for $430 and use about 1 hour of my time to R&R the thing. Do I n
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hi there. Yes, the sensor, along with the dependent systems, require what is called a "zero point" calibration when it is replaced. The dealership does not have to be the entity that performs this calibration. However, it is dependent upon the diagnostic equipment that the servicing technician has available. I personally have the tools to perform this calibration, but may not be available in your service area. Before replacing anything, I strongly suggest having a qualified technician to perform an inspection to avoid replacing unnecessary parts and provide a second opinion. YourMechanic has several technicians available that can assist you with a Check Engine Light inspection and can move forward with a yaw rate sensor replacement if necessary.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

A faulty yaw rate sensor can send incorrect signals to the traction control system, resulting in the light turning on consistently, or intermittently. Check engine light is on – The check engine light may also illuminate if the yaw rate sensor is functioning incorrectly.
The yaw rate sensor is a key component in a vehicle`s stability control or electronic stability control system designed to provide motorists with increased safety, security, and control even in the most difficult driving conditions.
The yaw rate sensor is typically located under the driver or passenger seat, mounted on the level floorboard in order to access the vehicle`s center of gravity. After installation, a reset/recalibration procedure is generally required.
The average cost for a Yaw Sensor Replacement is between $716 and $740. Labor costs are estimated between $92 and $116 while parts are priced between $624 and $624.
The yaw rate sensor is a critical component of your stability and traction control systems. Without the yaw rate sensor, these systems might not function as they should. Overall, driving without the yaw rate sensor is risky, and you should go to a mechanic as soon as you see any of these symptoms in your vehicle.
If you have a vehicles making a 90º turn in two seconds, it would have a yaw rate of 45º. The Yaw rate sensor and accelerometers will often be mounted in a sensor cluster. To test a yaw rate sensor, rotate the unit so it is on a corner. The yaw sensor should react.
What Does Yaw Mean? Yaw happens when the weight of your vehicle shifts from its center of gravity to the left or the right. This is a shift you will definitely feel when you`re inside your vehicle. Yaw happens during spin-outs and fishtails, when you hit black ice or hydroplane.
Details. If working with the SmarTrax long box stand-alone controller, the “Zero Yaw Rate” should read between 1.0 and -1.0 while stationary. “Yaw Rate” should read between +0.2 and -0.2 degrees when the machine is parked.
The yaw rate sensor determines whether the car is developing a tendency to spin around the vertical axis. It helps the ESP control unit to determine the current driving-dynamic state of the car. For this purpose, it must be placed close to the vehicle`s centre of gravity.
Using synchronous 24bit sampling for each of the internal sensors provides a high degree of accuracy with yaw rate resolution typically 0.01 degrees per second and acceleration resolution down to 0.001g.
A yaw rate sensor (or rotational speed sensor) measures a vehicle`s angular velocity about its vertical axis in degrees or radians per second in order to determine the orientation of the vehicle as it hard-corners or threatens to roll-over.
This service typically takes less than 15 minutes to complete. If your car`s check engine light appears or the traction control system malfunctions, you may need a yaw rate sensor replacement.
Nearly every sensor on a car, including the yaw rate sensor, is designed to last forever. The heat and the moisture that this sensor is exposed to on a regular basis.
SECONDARY EFFECT 1: YAW CAUSES ROLL

The outer wing will move forward. Compared to the inner wing it travels a larger distance. Therefore the outer wing moves faster and generates more lift than the inner wing.

check engine light O2 sensor already replaced same codes still popping up after replacing old O2 sensor
ANSWER : Hi there. What you received from the parts store was a code retrieval, not a diagnostic. The codes are set when a fault is detected against normal operating parameter. The computer does not know what caused the fault, only that the fault meets the criteria for this code to set. There could be a problem in the wire harness, converter, or the ECM. The code and data are needed to properly assess the direction that a diagnosis needs. I strongly suggest having a qualified technician perform an inspection to avoid replacing unnecessary parts. Your Mechanic has several available technicians that can assist you with a check engine light inspection.

Do i need to replace the receiver drier and/or the expansion valve when replacing the condenser assembly?
ANSWER : Replacing the system drier is absolutely essential. If the system has been open to the atmosphere (due to the leak in the condenser), the desiccant in the drier has been fully saturated with moisture. As far as the expansion valve, replacement is not normally implicated in a leak repair, in your case a leak in the condenser. To justify replacing the expansion valve, there would have to have been a diagnostic performed which proved a fault. If no diagnostic was performed, and there is no evidence of a fault, then it is pointless to replace the valve. But, again, drier replacement is absolutely essential. To add the drier to your order, you can simply add a note to the mechanic in your order and/or add it as a service (you will see a link that you can click on to "add services" or write in specific services). If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

Check Engine light comes on, mechanic replaced o2 sensor but light still comes on.
ANSWER : Hi there:

If the mechanic completed the O2 sensor replacement, reset the codes and the error code was triggered again, it is possible that the catalytic converter is damaged and needs to be replaced. However, it’s also very common for the electrical harnesses that power these sensors to become frayed, damaged or faulty; which can also trigger the check engine light. It’s not advisable to drive a vehicle with a damaged catalytic converter for extended periods of time, as it can cause damage to internal engine components.

I did replace the heater core and two sensor the crank sensor and camshaft sensor it didn’t work can it be the computer
ANSWER : If the check engine light is on, what kind of codes is the system detecting? Do you have spark at the plugs? If you have spark, does spritzing some starter fluid give you a momentary startup? If so, there is a fuel issue. More symptoms and information on the car’s behavior before and after the parts you replaced would be very helpful. At this point, I would recommend an inspection from YourMechanic.com to diagnose this car starting problem, get an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs. YourMechanic.com can dispatch a mobile, professional mechanic to your location to help you get your car up and working again.

i need to replace both o2 sensors for vehicle listed above. so is it front left and back left o2 sensors?
ANSWER : Hi there:

Typically when an issue comes up with O2 sensors, it’s either the front bank (before the catalytic converter) or the rear bank (after). It’s very rare that all need to be replaced. However, the quickest and most effective way to determine which is faulty and need to be replaced is to have one of our professional mechanics complete a check engine light is on inspection. This service will allow them to determine which one is bad, and if you’d like, we can replace that O2 sensor for you.
