Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hello. If you had gotten this warning message along with an overheating condition then I would be a little mindful about a possible cooling system issue. These can come and go sporadically if the issue is something like a thermostat. If the coolant is full and nothing was found then it may be fine to drive for now but I would keep a close eye on the temperature gauge when this occurs. If the engine is not actually getting hot then the issue may be with the electrical system and not the cooling system. How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Jaguar warning lights can be broken down into three types of lights – red, amber and green. Red lights signal a serious issue, and you should stop driving as soon as you can to investigate. Amber lights signal that some form of action is needed, such as an oil top up. Green lights are just advisory.
Green: the system is working correctly or is currently in use. Yellow: something is not working correctly – take extra care and check it out as soon as possible. Red: there is a serious, and potentially dangerous problem – stop driving as soon as it is safe to do so.
There are 3 different categories of warning lights; red, amber and green: Red warning lights mean you should stop the car as soon as it`s safe. Yellow warning lights mean that action is required. Green warning lights are for information only.
When this indicator-an exclamation point inside of a triangle-glows amber, it means there`s a non-critical message in the instrument panel. When it glows red, this means there is a more urgent message. If the indicator persists, schedule an appointment at a Jaguar service center.
The check engine light is usually the most serious and feared warning because of the kind of damage it can signal. This warning often indicates the potential for serious engine damage. When ignored, your vehicle could suffer from a blown head gasket or a seized engine.
The risk of carrying on driving is that the engine could overheat and performance will suffer. The car may even stop entirely, with a high likelihood of serious engine damage. So there you go. It`s really important that you take these lights seriously.
A symbol that looks like an exclamation mark in a horseshoe is the tire pressure warning light. This lets you know when your tires aren`t exactly filled with enough air. Stop by a local air pump to take care of this problem. Lamp Out Warning.
The first thing you can try, to turn off the car, then restart the engine. The second step is to disconnect your battery, wait for a few minutes then reconnect the battery. Another option is to continue to drive your car, and hope the light will reset itself.
There are two main types of dashboard warning lights: red and orange. A red warning light generally indicates a serious issue with your car. You should act quickly if your dashboard warning light is red – it could be an overheating engine, low engine oil pressure or a braking system problem.
Click the Start Menu icon and select PC Settings. Select Update & Security and then click the Troubleshoot option on the left. Click the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter on the right-hand side. Finally, press the Run the troubleshooter button and follow the on-screen instructions.
The dashboard light looks like an exclamation point inside of a horseshoe and, if illuminated, should be addressed immediately. When the TPMS light goes on, it should not be ignored. Driving on underinflated tires can lead to an accident or cause damage to your vehicle.
Modern cars come with tire pressure monitoring systems and the little exclamation point inside of a half-circle merely means one or more of your tires have low pressure. If you see this sign don`t freak out. Instead, find a safe place to stop and inspect your tires.
An orange or amber light doesn`t usually mean you should stop immediately, but some cars have a red warning light for more serious issues. A red engine management light means it`s time to pull over and call your breakdown service, or at least check the meaning of the light in your vehicle handbook.
The engine`s Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) is illuminated on a dashboard. A small, yellow engine-shaped light indicates that the car`s electronic system has detected a problem that needs to be checked. This warning light is known as the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL).
Expected weather conditions in a status yellow alert do not pose an immediate risk to the general population.” “A status orange weather warning is given before expected weather conditions that could significantly impact people, property and activity in an area.
When all your dashboard lights turn on at once, it most commonly indicates an issue with the alternator or the charging system. It is common for all the dash lights to come on with no alternator output; low voltage can cause unusual electrical issues. The alternator should be tested at the time of battery replacement.
Like all automotive electrical systems, the dash lights have a fuse designed to go bad and disconnect the circuit when too much power is introduced to the system. This protects components on the circuit from damage. Sometimes, a fuse will go bad for no other reason other than it`s old.
In most cases, successfully repairing the issue that caused your light to come on will cause the check engine light to turn off automatically—but only after 10 to 20 “cycles”. A cycle, in this instance, refers to the process of turning the vehicle on, running it for some time, and turning it off again.
Red. Red lights are instinctively associated with emergency situations, and are most often used in police vehicles, fire trucks, and ambulances. Depending on state laws, emergency vehicles can also use forward-facing red lights in combination with blue or white lights.
Check your gas cap first. Many vehicles have a loose gas cap indicator that will be triggered before your check engine light comes on. If your gas cap is loose or the seal is not tight, the vapor leakage can cause your fuel system to trigger the check engine light.
When that warning light triangle with an exclamation point pops up, there`s a simple explanation. It means that there is something wrong with your Honda vehicle`s Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA®) system. This system helps to stabilize the vehicle during cornering if the car turns more or less than desired.
Even vigilant drivers sometimes lose focus, so automakers have stepped in with a technology that helps warn of approaching danger. A forward-collision warning (FCW) system, also known as forward-collision alert, may provide visual, audible, or other alerts when the vehicle is approaching an obstacle.

No coolant in the reservoir. Seen low coolant message. I added 2 quarts of 50/50 coolant. Still getting the message. How much coolant doe it need?
ANSWER : Hi there. For the coolant light to go out, you would need to have the coolant between the low line and the full line for the light to go out. If the coolant is low and keeps on being low, then look for any signs of coolant leaks. You may have to use a coolant pressure tester to pressurize the reservoir to allow the leak to be found.

If you need further assistance with the coolant being low and the warning light being on, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

Keep getting Battery saver mode on my message screen and i replaced the battery like the dealer said.. message came back on?
ANSWER : Hello. A battery saver mode light can sometimes be set off by an issue with the battery, but it is also often set off if a problem occurs with the alternator, such as low or excessive output from a failed voltage regulator.

I would check the alternator to make sure that it is in proper functioning order, as an alternator issue can not only cause problems with the vehicle, it could also cause damage to the battery.

If you’d like to get this repaired, feel free to contact a certified mechanic who can diagnose the cause of the battery light firsthand and replace the alternator if necessary.

My gas cap will not open. I can get a new cap but how do I get the current one off?

This should be completed by a professional mechanic to avoid mistakes and debris falling into the fuel cell. If you live in one of our service areas, one of our professional mobile mechanics can come to your location and complete the gas cap replacement.

Suddenly a low oil pressure warning light falshing in my 2008 Escalelid with an engine rduce power message in the driver message c
ANSWER : Check the oil level to be sure it is correct. If the level is correct, the oil pressure should be tested using an external gauge. The purpose of that test is to see if the pressure is actually low, or if perhaps the warning light is malfunctioning. If the pressure is low, the cause will have to be sought and there are a few causes including a failing oil pump, blocked pump pick up screen and so forth. To resolve this, the recommended service is an oil pressure diagnostic. If you request that service, the responding certified mechanic will travel right to your location and get this diagnosed and resolved for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic.

Only get heat when i rev up my car or push the gas. Other tham that i only get cold air coming out.
ANSWER : You may have a clogged heater core that may be prohibiting the outer linings of the heater core to get hot. As you know, the heater core is a series of tubes that the coolant runs through that generates the heat from the warm coolant after circulating through the motor. These tubes can occasionally develop a buildup on the inner walls such that when the heater core is "flushed" this buildup on the inner walls of the lines remains and still allows the coolant to flow through the heater core. It is important to note that when the heater core is "flushed" it is possible to get good flow through the heater core while the inside walls of the heater core remain caked with buildup. As a result, the buildup on the inner walls prevents the temperature from rising to its capability due to the insulating effect of this buildup on the inner walls which will prevent the necessary heat transfer to properly heat the inside of the car. I would recommend having an expert from YourMechanic come to your location to diagnose and replace your heater core.

Do I have a case against Jaguar?
ANSWER : Hi there. Unfortunately this is common for this vehicle. Most of the time it will need brakes before it even hits the 20,000 mile mark. As for getting the brakes done, to dissipate heat right and to provide proper braking the brakes and rotors must be replaced together. If you want to have your brakes done, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to you to replace your brake pads.

Will an 94 jaguar xjs alternator fit and work on an 94 jaguar xj6
ANSWER : The XJ6 uses a 120 amp alternator (AC Delco 334-1203) while the XJS uses a 115 amp alternator (AC Delco 334-1859). The terminal connections on the two alternators are NOT in the same position. Inasmuch as the part numbers for the two applications are different, the parts are considered to be not interchangeable. As a practical matter, if the pulley is IDENTICAL in EVERY respect and the pulley is in the IDENTICAL position in the serpentine drive belt circuit (same plane!, same position), and the alternator fits the frame, you can probably use it without ill effect. However, if the alternator is returnable, the optimal solution and the recommended practice is to return it and buy the actual part required in the catalog. If you desire alternator relacement by a certified Mechanic, dispatched by YourMechanic right to your location, please request alternator service and the responding certified mechanic will get this taken care of for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.
