Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hello. It sounds as if the issue you are experiencing could be computer related. I would recommend taking your vehicle to a professional with a high tech scan tool in order to check your powertrain control module for proper function. If your powertrain control module is not up to par I would recommend having it replaced with a new one. Be sure to have this replacement done professionally as a reprogramming may be necessary after the replacement. A technician from YourMechanic can come to your home or office to inspect why your car starts then dies and make the necessary repairs.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

The most common problems for Saab models are coolant loss, ignition issues, and oil leaks. The now defunct brand has generally high reliability ratings, but there`s a lack of consistency—as different years of the 9-3 can be considered both the most and least reliable cars of the make.
This Saab 9-3 engine ECU is a common failure that causes the engine management light to come on followed by the engine cutting out when hot, the car will then fail to restart until the engine cools down again. The ECU fault will usually start out as intermittent but will become more permanent with time.
The Saab is extremely well made, very comfortable especially on long journeys, despite its age is V ery reliable, however fuel economy is average at best. The soft top roof keeps the car very warm without any leakage. There is a surprisingly roomy boot & interior.
Problem Description

A well-documented and well-known issue with the Saab 9-3 built between 2003-2011 is harsh shifting from the 6-speed automatic transmission, and slight slippage between gears.

The 2002 Saab 9-3 Viggen is the best used Saab to buy. Its turbocharged-engine, aggressive aero kit, performance upgrades, and limited production earn this thunderbolt collector-car status.
You can use a bench test setup, which simulates the car`s electrical system and sensors, to connect your ECU and check its operation. You can also use a software tool, such as an ECU simulator or a diagnostic scanner, to communicate with your ECU and monitor its parameters, codes, and outputs.
Limp mode is a car security feature that activates when a fault is detected, reducing speed and switching off non-essential functions. It is triggered by abnormal signals from car components, such as faulty sensors, transmission issues, or low fluid levels.
This engine produces a maximum power of 205 PS (202 bhp – 151 kW) at 5500 rpm and a maximum torque of 280 Nm (206 lb. ft) at 2200 rpm.
The 9-3 OG is on the way to becoming a classic, but the campaign in Sweden was a kind of acid test. As strange as it sounds, Sweden is tricky territory for Saab. Abroad, Saab classics and youngtimers are more expensive and valued more. A fact that has to do with the history of the brand.
The Saab 9 3 Sport Sedan 2.0t top speed is 220 Km/h / 137 mph.
However, despite its 13 years in production, it didn`t quite receive the momentum it needed to blow through the market. One of the main reasons for its failure is poor reliability. The 9-5 had a well-constructed body, but its interior doesn`t hold up over the years.
The estimated cost to maintain and repair a Saab 9-3 ranges from $95 to $7097, with an average of $315.

car will not start/ starter checked out good had ecm changed1 1/2 years ago check engine soon light came on the next day wouldnt
ANSWER : If the Check Engine Light is on, I recommend that you request a check engine light diagnostic. That diagnostic will very likely lead to a resolution of your no start condition. If the starter motor is, in fact, good (stater motors have to be tested under load, by the way; freewheel bench tests are unreliable), but there is no noise, that is the starter motor is not turning, that means there is a fault in the starter circuit, which circuit starts at the battery, runs through wiring, relays, fuses, the ignition key and to the starter solenoid. That circuit would have to be traced to find the fault. If, on the other hand, the starter is turning over the engine at sufficient RPM, but the engine doesn’t run, that means there is an ignition or fuel system fault, or a problem with a key global sensor such as the engine coolant temperature sensor (or other sensor, such as crankshaft position sensor, etc.). In any event, if you schedule a check engine light diagnostic, a certified mechanic will be dispatched and he or she will get this promptly resolved for you.

Check engine check battery leaking smoke
ANSWER : If it was leaking "antifreeze" or "coolant" on the freeway, that signifies a cooling system leak although it is also possible that your car is overheating (due to a cooling system problem like a stuck thermostat or an engine issue) and the overheating simply caused the pressure relief valve in the radiator cap to open expelling steam and liquid coolant. It’s hard to say which is occurring without looking at the car directly. Consider YourMechanic, as one of our mobile technicians can come to your home to diagnose the Check Engine Light and other symptoms.

The fault with the battery is possibly a coincidence and the electrical issue will have to be dealt with as well. It’s not unusual for older cars to have multiple problems but the problems are not directly related; they are merely coincidental.

2006 Ford Mustang has check engine light on
ANSWER : There are countless potential causes for your illuminated check engine light. The mechanic manually turned off the light, but it came back on because the problem has not been fixed. The first place to start is retrieval of the stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). These codes serve as a starting point for any further diagnostics a mechanic may perform. Codes will be stored anytime the check engine light is on. Since the first mechanic was unable to fix your concern, I recommend giving the professionals at YourMechanic a call. We offer expert check engine light diagnosis and repair.

O2 sensors changed, but check engine light still showing code after clearing it I checked fuse. Wires are good and used Denso OE.
ANSWER : Depending on what the code was for will determine if the oxygen sensor was to be replaced. If the conditions were for a rich or lean mixture and it said oxygen sensor, then the spark plugs and wires could need replaced if its a rich reading or the fuel injectors could be clogged or not working if its a lean mixture. If the code said that the oxygen sensor was bad, then check the harness and see if there is a break in the wiring or a short to ground in the wiring from the oxygen sensor to the main harness. If you need further assistance with your check engine light being on, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

I changed my mas and the check engine light came back on what next
ANSWER : You will need to have the computer scanned to see why the light came back on. If you continue to get codes to the mass air sensor then you should have the pinpoint test completed that will test the system for the failure on the mass air circuit. Since a new sensor was installed only tells you the diagnosis was not completed correctly with the previous diagnosis. Have a mechanic like one from YourMechanic do the correct diagnosis for you.

Do I need to stop driving my car immediately if my check engine light and check transmission light both come on and stay on?
ANSWER : Hi there. Anytime a service or warning light illuminates on your dashboard, it is because the ECU of your vehicle has detected a fault from either a system, sensor or individual component. Some are more serious than others, which is why it’s always best to have a professional mobile mechanic come to your location; either at home or while you’re at work, to complete a check engine light inspection. This will allow them to download all of these error codes to determine what service or repairs will resolve these issues.
