Truck cranks but, doesnt start?

Truck cranks but doesn't start. I thought it was the fuel pump because I could not hear it turn on anymore so I bought a new on and nothing. I also checked all the fuses and there all good. But for some weird reason we checked for juice the wires that connect with the fuel pump and when they are not connected they have juice but when connected they done hmmmm… So then I checked the fuel trip button and it was pressed down so I looked a little closer and where the wire plugs into the switch box it seems to be burnt. And keep in mind that when I try to start the truck no fuel comes out o
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hi there. From the description you have provided, you may have located the problem. The fuel trip button/inertia switch is the there to disable power to the fuel pump in the event of an accident. The connector being burnt may be the result of a poor electrical connection or high current draw from the original fuel pump and would explain the loss of power when the new fuel pump electrical load is placed on this circuit. Replacing the inertia switch and connector, may resolve the lack of power to the fuel pump. I recommend having your vehicle’s no start be diagnosed and repaired by a certified technician, such as one from YourMechanic.

The most common reasons a Ford Ranger won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.
A crank, but no start condition can be caused by many things. Depending on how strong or weak the vehicle is cranking, the no-start condition can be caused by a low battery, a problem with the fuel system, or even a problem with the ignition or engine management system.
It`s located under the dash in the passenger foot area, just at the front edge of the carpet. At the top of the switch is a white button, push it down to re-set it. It should fire right up.
You need to check the fuel inertia switch in the right passenger kick panel to make sure it is not tripped. If not tripped, then check that the pink wire in and out has power when you crank the engine. If no power is present, then check the fuel pump relay in the engine compartment fuse box.
Bad Sensors

One common culprit for this problem is the crankshaft position sensor, which measures the position and speed of the crankshaft. The computer uses the information from this sensor to know when to fire the spark plugs. If the sensor isn`t working, the spark plugs won`t fire, keeping the engine from starting.

When your engine cranks but won`t start or run, it could mean your engine is having trouble producing a spark, getting fuel, or creating compression. The most common causes are problems in the ignition (for example, a bad ignition coil) or fuel system (for example, a clogged fuel filter).
Why won`t my car start but I have power? If you attempt to start up your car but the engine won`t turn over and the dashboard lights up, then you most likely have an issue with your battery. You could have a damaged or corroded battery terminal, which is stopping the engine from starting up when you fully turn the key.
Broken or Damaged Ignition

If your headlights can turn on, but your car won`t crank, that means that your battery is charged, but either the starter or ignition is the problem. If the starter or ignition is the problem, a starter engine can be jumped by using a charged battery.

The most common reasons a Ford F-150 won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.
The engine does not start

An engine that refuses to start can be another sign of a bad ignition switch. The ignition switch sends power to the the starter motor, engine controls, and ignition controls. These systems may not receive the power they need to start up if the ignition switch isn`t working properly.

Car Will Not Start: Over time, as the camshaft position sensor fails, the signal it sends to the engine control module weakens. When the engine no longer receives the signal, you will not be able to start your car.
Why won`t my car start but the battery is good? If your car won`t start but the battery is good, the most common cause is a faulty starter – though it could also be to do with your fuel. You may have insufficient fuel to get the car going.
The most common reasons a Ford F-150 won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.
When an engine cranks for a long time before it starts, either spark or fuel is missing or weak and each has its own reasons. Most of the time, the air / fuel mixture has been disturbed and there is too much air or not enough fuel.

Fuel pump engages. Batery good, alternator good volts, jump start helps when wont start. Temp does not matter. Intermittent?
ANSWER : Hello. Thank you for writing in. There are several reasons your vehicle may only start when jump starting. The first and most common is a build up of resistance that is causing you to need a boost of voltage to get the engine started. This may be due to poor battery cables, a bad ground connection, a poor starter solenoid, and a couple of other issues. The first thing you want to do is perform a visual inspection of the starting system. Make sure there is no corrosion build up in the battery cables. You can also check the resistance across these wires and make sure you have a solid connection between components. You then want to make sure the starter solenoid is doing its job. It is responsible for taking the small amount of electricity sent by the ignition and turning it into a huge electrical charge that is strong enough to push over the engine with the help of some gear ratios in its favor. Do some more testing, and stick to the basics before assuming its something seriously complicated.

Security light flashing. No crank no start. After truck sits with battery disconnected, the truck will start and run. Is it the BCM
ANSWER : Typically when the battery has been disconnected for an extended period and is replaced, an error code will be triggered in the ECU of the vehicle and disable the ignition system. This is done as a security feature; but tends to be a major inconvenience for car owners. The only way to resolve this issue is to have a professional mechanic complete a check engine light inspection, so they can download the stored error code, clear the code and verify that the car will start. If this is not the problem, a more in-depth inspection will need to happen.

I changed the fuel pump and truck ran great for 3 days. Now after 3 days, the truck dies. It will start running for a few minutes, then dies like before.
ANSWER : Hi there, thanks for writing in. I’d be happy to help. It sounds like you should disconnect the connector to the fuel pump and inspect it for any signs of getting hot. The female connections may be too loose on the fuel pump and lose contact after running and getting hot. If there are indeed any signs of problems, then I’d suggest replacing connector and adding dielectric lube to pins before installation. This should solve the problem, but if you continue to experience issues, feel free to reach out to us for help again.

I parked my truck for 5-10 mins. Tried to turn it on, now it wont start, called a tow tow truck 15-20mins later my truck turned on
ANSWER : It is very likely that you have a powertrain control module failure. This can happen often on many GM vehicles. I would recommend having the powertrain control module tested and replaced as necessary in order to resolve this issue. After the powertrain control module is replaced, a reflash procedure will be required so that the vehicle can relearn all of its primary engine data. Once the reflash is completed, your vehicle should no longer have this issue.

My truck won’t start. I put a new fuel pump, cam shaft sensor, cleaned my crank sensor, and put a new battery in it. It will crank but not start.
ANSWER : Check the exhaust system for any leaks before the oxygen sensors. This can contribute to having more oxygen in the exhaust stream causing the sensors to register a false reading. If there is no leaks in the exhaust, then check the engine for any vacuum leaks. Look at all of the vacuum lines, the intake gaskets, and the brake booster. A vacuum leak will cause the engine idle to accelerate fast and also cause the engine to stall when the computer brings the idle down. If you need further assistance with your engine stalling, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

72 Chevelle cranks but won’t start and has to be flooded but smell no gas
ANSWER : Gasoline is generally not usable after 3 to 6 months. If gasoline has been stored in the vehicle for a lengthy time, the problem is likely that there is just simply nothing to combust. The volatile components in the gas have evaporated and other compounds in the gas have turned to varnish and gum, possibly plugging up the carburetor. If the tank was drained though and the fuel in the fuel system is fresh, please simply request a no start diagnostic and the responding certified mechanic will pinpoint the cause of the no start condition. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

When trying to start the truck it cranks and cranks, Wont start and when you stop turning the key, It shakes a little and smokes
ANSWER : I suspect your ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor is stuck at -40 degrees. When this occurs, the PCM dumps as much fuel into the motor as it can because it believes the outside temperature is -40 degrees Fahrenheit. You will need to connect a scanner to be sure.

You can do what is known as a clear flood. Push the gas pedal all the way to the floor and hold it there while you crank the motor. This is a really good diagnostic test for a flooded condition such as you might have. You will most likely need to crank the motor for an extended period of time and when it does begin to start, you will need to feather the throttle to keep in running until the excess fuel clears out. It may smoke a lot as well, so if your parked in a garage, I would move it out if you can.

It is possible the cylinders have been washed with fuel so much that compression is now too low to run the motor. This would seem to be improbable, but this actually occurs more often than most are aware of. If this is the case, you will need to squirt oil into the cylinder to help them build up compression. The rings actually need some oil around them to help them seal. This is part of the normal operation of an internal combustion motor.

A flooded condition can and often is difficult to deal with. Leaking fuel injectors or a broken fuel pressure regulator diaphragm can do the same. Remove a spark plug on the side that the smoke is coming from and see if the spark plug is wet.
