I parked my truck for 5-10 mins. Tried to turn it on, now it wont start, called a tow tow truck 15-20mins later my truck turned on

two weeks prior to this issue, took my truck for a tune up change and also replace the throttle body I was running into an issue where every time I would slow down or come in to a stop my truck will turn off. after we replace the throttle body, didn't have an issue with the truck turning of on me while driving. Now the problem is when I park my truck turn off the engine and it will make the noise of wanting to start engine, but wont start it. I leave it alone for 15-20 mins and then it starts. I tried taking it to the mechanic and he said he cant check it because I have no lighting sensor
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
It is very likely that you have a powertrain control module failure. This can happen often on many GM vehicles. I would recommend having the powertrain control module tested and replaced as necessary in order to resolve this issue. After the powertrain control module is replaced, a reflash procedure will be required so that the vehicle can relearn all of its primary engine data. Once the reflash is completed, your vehicle should no longer have this issue.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

An issue with the mass airflow sensor may manifest itself when a car starts and then stalls soon after starting. Fuel Pump Relay: The fuel pump relay functions much like a fuse for an electric fuel pump. The fuel pump relay engages as the vehicle is started and starts the fuel pump.
The most common reasons a Hummer H3 won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.
The most common reasons a Hummer H2 won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.
Error code P0449 indicates a malfunction within the vehicle`s evaporative emissions control (EVAP) system. The code specifies an issue regarding the circuit that controls the vent.
The most common reason your car starts then dies immediately is because of a lack of fuel in the engine. This often happens because there is a small amount of fuel in the fuel rail, which helps to start the engine. However, there is no fuel pressure to keep the engine running.
Common reasons for this to happen:

Low fuel pressure, dirty or defective fuel injectors, or broken fuel pump: The fuel pump is responsible for transferring fuel from the tank to the engine.

If your vehicle won`t start, it`s usually caused by a dying or dead battery, loose or corroded connection cables, a bad alternator or an issue with the starter. It can be hard to determine if you`re dealing with a battery or an alternator problem.
Broken or Damaged Ignition

If your headlights can turn on, but your car won`t crank, that means that your battery is charged, but either the starter or ignition is the problem. If the starter or ignition is the problem, a starter engine can be jumped by using a charged battery.

The most common reasons a Hummer H2 key won`t turn are a binding steering column/lock, an ignition switch issue, or a problem with the ignition key.
What the P0449 code means. The P0449 DTC means that the evaporative emission control system vent valve or solenoid has a malfunction. The ECU detects this fault and causes the Check Engine Light to be illuminated on the dashboard.
The most common and obvious reason your car may start then die is the fuel shortage in your engine. This happens because there`s not enough fuel in the fuel rail, and there`s no fuel pressure to keep the engine alive. The reason isn`t always you forgetting to fill up your gas tank.
Common faults are the battery, alternator, fuel pump, fuel filter, battery cable, coil, or a wiring harness fault.
Engine Troubles

The 2006 Hummer H3 vehicle from General Motors was riddled with problems. According to drivers, it ran rough, had leaky valves, cylinder heads that failed, low compression, and the engine shutting down.

When an engine cranks for a long time before it starts, either spark or fuel is missing or weak and each has its own reasons. Most of the time, the air / fuel mixture has been disturbed and there is too much air or not enough fuel.
If your car won`t start but the battery is good, the most common cause is a faulty starter – though it could also be to do with your fuel. You may have insufficient fuel to get the car going.
One common culprit for this problem is the crankshaft position sensor, which measures the position and speed of the crankshaft. The computer uses the information from this sensor to know when to fire the spark plugs. If the sensor isn`t working, the spark plugs won`t fire, keeping the engine from starting.
Fortunately (spoiler alert) the root cause of a no-crank is almost always simple. Most of the time it`s simply due to a low or dead battery, or voltage drop through a corroded connection. Rule those out before you suspect the starter itself.

The idea behind the start-stop system is simple: If the engine is stopped for short periods, for example while waiting at traffic lights, fuel consumption and emissions are reduced. In this way, the automatic start-stop system helps to save fuel and protect the climate.

Fuses – If the car dies while idling but restarts, there`s a possibility that there might be an issue with the fuses of the car. It`s conceivable that one of the fuses has blown. Take each fuse from the box and hold it up to the light.

Fuel pump engages. Batery good, alternator good volts, jump start helps when wont start. Temp does not matter. Intermittent?
ANSWER : Hello. Thank you for writing in. There are several reasons your vehicle may only start when jump starting. The first and most common is a build up of resistance that is causing you to need a boost of voltage to get the engine started. This may be due to poor battery cables, a bad ground connection, a poor starter solenoid, and a couple of other issues. The first thing you want to do is perform a visual inspection of the starting system. Make sure there is no corrosion build up in the battery cables. You can also check the resistance across these wires and make sure you have a solid connection between components. You then want to make sure the starter solenoid is doing its job. It is responsible for taking the small amount of electricity sent by the ignition and turning it into a huge electrical charge that is strong enough to push over the engine with the help of some gear ratios in its favor. Do some more testing, and stick to the basics before assuming its something seriously complicated.

Vehicle won’t start, once it’s jump started it only stays running until you turn it off, then it work start again without jumping.
ANSWER : Hi there. There could be two problems here. It is possible that your battery is bad and will not take a charge from your alternator while driving. In that case every time you shut your car off you will not have enough juice to start it again. Inspect your battery – it should have at least 12.5 to 13 volts to start your car, if it doesn’t you will need to replace the battery. The second problem could be that your alternator is bad and not charging your battery, in this case you will need to replace your alternator. Both the battery and the alternator can be tested in your car. If you would like to have the car checked for you, a certified professional from YourMechanic can come to your car’s location to diagnose the starting problem and proceed with repairs.

My truck has problems turning over when I crank the engine (it won’t start), and my battery keeps draining.
ANSWER : Hi there, thanks for writing in. It sounds like your vehicle may be having a couple of problems. For the first problem, regarding the battery being drained and not charging back up, you will need to have the charging system checked to see if the alternator is faulty and/or needs to be replaced. For the second problem of no turning when cranking it, the issue may be that the starter is going bad from trying to crank it with a weak low battery, and may need to be replaced. If you would like help with having these inspections performed, consider having one of our expert automotive technicians come to your home or office to look at and diagnose these issues for you, and make any repairs as needed. ANSWER : You should have the battery tested after running the engine to try and charge it up. Have battery load tested to see if it can hold a load and replace it if it cannot. Then have the charging system checked to make sure it is charging at the correct rate.

When trying to start the truck it cranks and cranks, Wont start and when you stop turning the key, It shakes a little and smokes
ANSWER : I suspect your ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor is stuck at -40 degrees. When this occurs, the PCM dumps as much fuel into the motor as it can because it believes the outside temperature is -40 degrees Fahrenheit. You will need to connect a scanner to be sure.

You can do what is known as a clear flood. Push the gas pedal all the way to the floor and hold it there while you crank the motor. This is a really good diagnostic test for a flooded condition such as you might have. You will most likely need to crank the motor for an extended period of time and when it does begin to start, you will need to feather the throttle to keep in running until the excess fuel clears out. It may smoke a lot as well, so if your parked in a garage, I would move it out if you can.

It is possible the cylinders have been washed with fuel so much that compression is now too low to run the motor. This would seem to be improbable, but this actually occurs more often than most are aware of. If this is the case, you will need to squirt oil into the cylinder to help them build up compression. The rings actually need some oil around them to help them seal. This is part of the normal operation of an internal combustion motor.

A flooded condition can and often is difficult to deal with. Leaking fuel injectors or a broken fuel pressure regulator diaphragm can do the same. Remove a spark plug on the side that the smoke is coming from and see if the spark plug is wet.

If you should need further help with this, consider YourMechanic, as one of our mobile technicians can come to your home and diagnose your starting problem firsthand.

Car turns off
ANSWER : The problem sounds like your alternator has stopped charging the car. This will cause the car to have weak electronics like what you are experiencing. Have the charging system double checked, and if verified as the fault, replace the bad alternator.
