Put my GMC into gear and when I give it gas it just wines and won’t move.

Its a gmc 1500 4×4 5speed nv4500 manual transmission 5.7 motor I was pulling my car trailer one day and started up a hill and it just stopped pulling got it home and have taken it apart completely and put it back together have checked clutch pressure plate transfer case put it all back and still dose it it starts no problems it shifts smooth and fine goes into gear fine just when u put it into gear and go to give it gas it just starts wining and wont move a inch

My car has 15000 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hi there. Check the clutch to see if it is slipping. When a clutch slips, the engine will continue to operate but the transmission will not drive under a load. If the clutch is new and the noise is still present, then there is an issue with the transmission internally and needs checked for damage. I recommend seeking out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you diagnose your transmission and clutch.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Common reasons for this to happen:

Low Transmission Fluid: For both manual and automatic transmissions, the primary cause for whining when in gear is low transmission fluid. If the fluid is too low, then the internal components of the transmission are not lubricated properly.

What`s Wrong With GM`s 10-Speed Transmission? Class action attorneys are investigating GM models such as Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra vehicles because of reports of transmission problems such as harsh shifting, shuddering, hesitation, gear shifting problems and loss of power.
GM has released a new service update for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 in regard to poor shifting quality from the truck`s automatic transmission. The problem: certain units of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 may exhibit a condition wherein the automatic transmission provides poor-quality shifts.
This whining sound can be caused by any number of transmission issues. Low transmission fluid or a clogged fluid line/filter are the most likely culprits, but there could be other internal damage causing the noise.
Should the whining noise of your transmission continue whenever your vehicle is in gear, this can mean there is a problem occurring in your torque converter. Check to see if the noise desists when you shift the vehicle to park or neutral. A constant whining noise when your car is in gear needs professional attention.
Transmission Range Sensor (TR)/ Transmission Position Sensor

The PCM uses this information to control which gears of the transmission to enable or disable. When the TR sensor fails it can cause wrong gear starts, no upshifts, or what feels like a falling-out-of-gear condition.

Moveras – 4L60E Transmission (Part No.
If you hear a whining noise from your car`s engine, it may mean much the same thing: there`s a component that`s worn out. If these parts break or wear down entirely, they could cause damage, so hearing a whining sound means that it`s time to schedule a service appointment.
While the transmission is the most likely cause, whining while accelerating can also be caused by low power steering fluid or more serious damage like faulty alternator bearings, a malfunctioning water pump, a broken piston or a bad AC compressor.
A humming or whining noise in an automatic transmission vehicle often means that you are low on automatic transmission fluid. If this is the case, you want to refill that fluid immediately. Transmission fluid reduces friction, which means heat, which in turn is bad news for transmissions.
While the transmission is the most likely cause, whining while accelerating can also be caused by low power steering fluid or more serious damage like faulty alternator bearings, a malfunctioning water pump, a broken piston or a bad AC compressor.
The more you accelerate, the more the whirring increases. It`s time to get your car in for a checkup! There might be a number of reasons for this, including a bad water pump, low levels of power steering fluid, and a bad air conditioner compressor.

I was driving had my car on gear and lost acceleration. I pushed the clutch in and put on gear but only grind but won’t move?
ANSWER : If the clutch lever, on the transmission, is functioning something has mechanically failed in the clutch and/or the transmission. If the clutch failed, and you heard gears grinding, as you tried to shift the transmission, some damage may have been done to the transmission. Even if just the clutch has failed, the engine and transmission will have to be separated to find the cause of the failure and worn out or broken parts will likely have to be replaced . To request an inspection, the recommended service is clutch system diagnostic. If you request that diagnostic, the responding certified mechanic will evaluate what you have and let you know of your repair options and costs. My car is a saturn vue 05. It starts will shift all gears. But it’s not moving when I put into gear. Even in natural it won’t move
ANSWER : Hi there. Let’s begin with the "N" position for the gear selector. That is neutral, or no direction meaning that the car does not move on its own power in that gear; only if you and possibly help from friends push the car. Do you actually feel the vehicle shift into a gear when the selector is placed in "D" or "R"? If not, this could an internal failure of the transmission; a clutch, band, etc.. no need to get into the technicalities of internal parts here. I would suggest having a qualified technician perform an inspection to avoid replacing unnecessary parts. Your Mechanic has several available technicians that can assist you with a car does not move inspection.

Second gear misshifts when I drive, all other gears are fine.
ANSWER : Hello.

A transmission coming out of gear is most often caused by worn transmission components. It may be possible that the synchronizer rings, which are meant to smoothly mesh the gears inside of the transmission, have worn out and are no longer able to stay in gear.

It may also be possible that the gears themselves have worn out, and can no longer hold the torque of the engine. This is usually preceded or accompanied by a grinding noise when attempting to shift into that gear. If this is the case, it may be possible that the transmission may need to be rebuilt.

As transmission rebuilds can be expensive, I would recommend having the vehicle diagnosed by a professional technician who specializes in transmission, to determine if a rebuild is required.

Loose gearbox that won’t find 2nd or 5th gear, sometimes hard to differentiate between 1st and 3rd.
ANSWER : There are a couple of possibilities. The first thing that comes to mind is of course the shifter itself. There is a nylon ball and socket joint at the base of the gearshift lever that sometimes falls apart, making the feel of the shifter very vague. Additionally, there are links to the transmission shift linkage that involve nylon bushings and joints that can fall apart. Both problems are very common on your car. The other less common possibility is that you have a bad motor mount that is allowing the transmission to move around too much when you try to shift gears. either way, it’s not a big deal to fix, and probably won’t require expensive transmission work. If you contact Your Mechanic, they can send a technician to your home or office to check out you shifting issue and let you know what repairs it will take to correct it.

My manual car won’t go into gear, it turns on and the clutch goes down perfectly fine. It happened after my gears grinded, the car
ANSWER : If the clutch mechanism is releasing properly, and the shift linkage is not malfunctioning, your transmission will have to be removed from the vehicle and inspected. Once a transmission has been removed from a vehicle, if the problem is a broken or worn part or parts, and the transmission has 100,000 miles or more, the most cost effective approach is to just simply rebuild the whole transmission. There are transmission rebuild kits that are sold just for this purpose. Rebuilding a transmission is no big deal and is indeed easier in many respects than rebuilding an engine. You can rebuild your transmission right in your own garage. You can NOT rebuild an engine in your own garage due to the highly specialized, and extremely costly, machine shop equipment required. Occasionally, mobile mechanics will take on a transmission rebuild job especially as once the mechanic removes the transmission from the vehicle, it is just simply a modular unit that can be easily transported to a mechanic’s shop and rebuilt right there and then returned to your vehicle. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

My car starts but when i put it in drive and press on the gas it won’t move
ANSWER : This is often a sign of low transmission fluid or a faulty transmission control solenoid. As you know, automatic transmissions use pressurized hydraulic fluid to change gears. Every time a gear change is required, the car’s computer activates a transmission solenoid, which directs transmission fluid into the valve body to engage the correct gear. When this is faulty or not working properly, this can cause a delay in gear shifting or in some cases cause the car to not shift at all. This type of problem is amplified any time the transmission is low on fluid creating a drop in hydraulic pressure.

This may indicate a failing speed sensor. The transmission speed sensor is a magnetic sensor that provides information related to the speed of the input and output shafts in the transmission, allowing the transmission to shift smoothly. The sensor counts the internal number of revolutions of the transmission and transmits that information to the transmission control unit, where the data is used to determine the rotational speed. As the rotation increases, the control unit directs the changing of gears. When this is not working properly, this may cause the transmission to shift erratically or in some cases not at all. I would recommend having an expert from YourMechanic come to your location to take the car for a test drive to more specifically determine the cause for this.

What does it mean when I put my car in gear and it won’t move and makes loud clicking noise 2006 Chevrolet Malibu
ANSWER : Hello – check the fluid level and quality (should be more pink than black, and not smelled burned). Check also the shifter cable – the inability to re-engage Park (which is a mechanical action) suggests the shifter is no longer connected to the transmission, or there is mechanical damage inside the transmission. The lack of forward or reverse motion may also be related to a broken shifter, or a failure of the transmission pressure pump. I recommend a transmission inspection performed by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose this problem, and give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.
