The power steering wont work, i still get all of those other error messages but the car will run and drive. I just have all these warnings and no power steering…Please help!

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hello, thank you for writing in. Typically when the warning lights illuminate after the dead battery, its because these systems went down before the battery completely died. When this happened the computer saved codes from the systems loosing power. The codes should be able to be reset. You will likely need a scan tool to do this. The other way to reset the codes is to drive the vehicle. After a certain preset number of miles driven without a code reappearing, the computer will clear the codes itself. If the lights illuminate again after that, you know there really is an issue and can look into it then. Clear the codes as they are probably a result of the systems loosing power as the battery died.

Your vehicle is equipped with an electric power steering (EPS) system. There is no fluid reservoir to check or fill.
Our research indicates that your vehicle has an electric power steering system (“EPS” or “EPAS”).
The affected vehicles have electric power steering assist systems that may shut down as a result of a steering motor sensor fault. If the vehicle experiences a loss of power steering assist, extra steering effort will be required at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
The 2013 Lincoln MKS actually has an electric power steering system, and it doesn`t use power steering fluid.
However, the 2014 Lincoln MKZ`s standard, continuously controlled damping (CCD) suspension provides some protection against jarring impact and costly wheel/tire repairs from the dreaded highway pitfalls.
Signs of Low Power Steering Fluid

Difficulty turning the wheel: There can be more than one reason for this symptom, but the bulk of the time, it`s going to be low power steering fluid. If your wheel feels “hard” and tough to turn, you might need power steering fluid. Loud steering: Steering shouldn`t make sounds.

Cars with EPS systems do not come with hydraulic pumps or pistons. However, they come with a more simplified electric motor designed to augment the steering commands made by drivers. This method reduces the amount of weight in the vehicle.
Electric Power Steering

EPS uses an electric motor that draws energy from the vehicle`s electrical system to provide the steering assistance.

Today`s electronic power steering systems may fail due to issues with the mounted electric motor. In particular, excessive heat on the motor is likely to cause the failure modes. Infiltration of the system environment by water, dirt, or other contaminants will also likely lead to EPS failure.
OEM Power Steering Fluid for North American vehicles is a high-quality mineral oil base formula developed to help protect modern power steering systems against pump breakdown and squeals caused by wear, oxidation, and foaming.
What Are the Types of Power Steering Fluid? Automatic transmission fluid (ATF) is the same fluid used inside the automatic transmission. ATF can also be used in some power steering systems. Some ATF types include Dexron and Mercon.
The 2014 Ford Focus uses an electronic power steering system, meaning no traditional fluid is needed.
With proper care and maintenance, your Lincoln MKZ can last up to 200,000 miles or 15 years. The average Lincoln MKZ can last between 180,000 and 200,000 miles or around 13 to 15 years.
The 2014 Ford Focus uses an electronic power steering system, meaning no traditional fluid is needed.
Our research indicates that your vehicle has an electric power steering system (“EPS” or “EPAS”). These systems use an electric motor instead of a hydraulic system and therefore do not have any power steering fluid to leak.

power steering fluid is leaking
ANSWER : With a power steering fluid leak that big, you certainly should have the vehicle inspected as soon as possible to find the exact cause. Any of the components you listed can be the source of the leak. The power steering pump as well as the rack & pinion steering unit rely on the fluid for lubrication as well as cooling. The whining you hear is from the pump when the fluid runs low or empty. Your issue can be caused by something as simple as a fluid hose right now, but continued ’running dry" of the power steering fluid, can result in damage to both the pump and the rack & pinion unit. If that happens, you can take what may be a repair of a few hundred dollars and turn it into a repair of a couple of thousand dollars.

Chrysler 3.8 L. T&C power steering rack and pump replacement.
ANSWER : As you may know, the power steering rack pumps power steering fluid through a series of small reed valves that help to produce hydraulic pressure as the system is pressurized by the pump. This is what allows the power steering system to assist you in steering your car. When either the pump or the rack is not working properly, one or the other can sometimes over compensate for the other to a certain degree, but will eventually be overworked and fail. It sounds like this may have been the case in your situation. I would suggest having a second opinion on the previous mechanic’s work. If you’d like a professional from YourMechanic can come to your home or place of business to properly diagnose and repair your power steering system.
