Hey there. You will need a wiper arm and a new wiper blade. There is something else that you need to look at before you install the wiper arm. The round part that protrudes from the base of the windshield needs to be inspected. Wiper arms will often come off because the splines on this piece can become damaged. If the splines are not in good shape, nearly new shape, the wiper arm will not secure properly to the round piece. The round piece is part of a larger unit referred to as the wiper transmission.

The wiper transmission is a series of long arms connected by pivots which are all connected to the wiper motor. It is underneath what is known as the cowl and the base of your transmission. If the round piece that protrudes through the cowl is damaged, you will also need a wiper transmission. Sometimes you can find one arm of the wiper transmission. What parts are available for your year make and model of vehicle is dependent on supply and demand. Often wiper transmissions are only available as a complete unit. Other times you can purchase individual pieces. You will have to go the parts store to find out. If you decide you need a wiper transmission or related parts, I recommend removing the cowl to see exactly what you need before you go to the parts store. Be sure to bring the old parts with you. This will ensure you leave the store with the correct part or parts.

If your still having trouble, you may want to have a local expert inspect your windshield wiper system. From there, they can make the appropriate repairs.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

If your wipers miss patches, it might be because the wiper blade linkage is damaged or the pressure of the windshield wiper has decreased. You should change your wiper blades for a good quality brand which delivers good blade-to-surface pressure across the design.
If your wiper motor runs but the wipers don`t move it`s most likely a mechanical problem, so you should start by examining the wiper assembly. This might be a disconnected wiper motor link arm, a jammed transmission, or locked gear.
Check Your Manual: Your vehicle`s manual should tell you what wiper blades size you need for each side and may even recommend a brand. Some vehicles have different size requirements for the driver and passenger sides, so read carefully before replacing your wiper blades.
Dirty windshield: Dirt and debris on the windshield can cause windshield wipers to stick, so try cleaning it with a glass cleaner. Wiper mechanism: You may need to check the wiper mechanism under the hood. Carefully remove the cover beneath the windshield after disconnecting the washer fluid line and windshield wipers.
The windshield wiper system is made up of only a few components, and significant problems can occur when only one of these elements is damaged. The power to the system is regulated by a fuse that is wired directly to the wiper motor and the switch.
The wiper relay is unique in that it`s found inside the wiper control handle which often has selector switches giving drivers multiple settings for their windshields. Over a period of time, this relay can be damaged – which will impact the operation of the windshield wiper system and in some cases, render it useless.
Windshield wiper blades are vehicle specific. On some vehicles, both wiper blades are the same size. On other vehicles, the two wiper blades are different sizes. The optimal wiper blade size is determined by the manufacturer and selected for proper fit to clear as much of the windshield as possible.
Every vehicle has a manufacturer recommended size of wiper blade. The blades needed are specific to that unique year, make, and mode. It is essential to choose replacement blades of the correct size for your vehicle.
Wiper blades come in countless styles, sizes and variations to suit all drivers and all vehicles. They`re not universal, and it can be difficult to know which ones to buy when replacing your windscreen wipers.
Wind, especially during a snowstorm, can be incredibly strong. I`ve seen it before; wind can blow off the rubber windshield wiper blade. Then, the wind blows down the windshield wiper arm, slamming it into the windshield, cracking or shattering it.
The intermittent DC relay is used for controlling the windshield wiper`s operation.
Burnt out fuse: The windshield wiper fuse will automatically burn out if the wiper motor is overloaded or something is blocking it. Wiper pivot nuts need to be tightened: If the pivot nut is too loose, the wiper arm may stop moving even if the motor still works.
Windshield wipers are powered by a small electric motor, usually mounted on the firewall or under the cowl (the area under the windshield`s base). The motor activates linkage that moves the wiper arms back and forth. On vehicles with a rear window wiper, a separate motor powers the one in the rear.
Different types of wipers

The three main types of wiper blades are: conventional, flat and hybrid. If your car came with conventional windscreen wipers, they can be replaced with flat or hybrid wipers for a performance and visual upgrade.

The rain sensor monitors the amount of moisture on the windshield and automatically turns the wipers on. It will adjust the wiper speed by the amount of moisture that the sensor detects on the windshield.
The wiper motor on a car is supposed to last a lifetime. Typically, this will not be the case due to the conditions that this part of a car is exposed to. The heat and moisture that a wiper motor is exposed to on a daily basis will eventually lead to you having to get it replaced.
Yes, and it mainly has to do with finding the proper size for your car. Windshield wiper blades are not interchangeable between different makes and models of vehicles, so be sure to check with an employee at one of your local auto parts stores to ensure you have the right size blade.
Most vehicles use a single motor for the front windshield. Others come with a rear wiper motor as well, with high-end cars featuring rear window wipers. Every extra windshield or window to be wiped means an additional motor. A vehicle may, therefore, have the component in other places than the front windscreen.
Size matters to a point, just as long as you are about 1 inch higher or lower than your current wiper blade size. If you buy wiper blades that are too big, they might overlap or touch which will cause them to break.
Did you know that wiper blades aren`t one type fits all? Manufacturers use a variety of connector styles to attach the wiper blade to the wiper arm. Knowing the difference between them is helpful when you need to buy new wiper blades.
Conventional or traditional wiper blades are designed with only six to eight contact points while beam blades feature an infinite number of pressure points. Infinite pressure points ensure that the entire length of the wiper blade will remain in contact with the windshield.
Windshield Wiper Interchangeability

Whether your left and right windshield wipers are the same depends on your vehicle; while some automobiles have equal-length left and right wipers, others use different lengths for each side.

Turn on the car and run the wipers, taking care to see where the resting position should be by following the passenger side wiper. When you`ve found it, turn the wipers off and reset the tab at the correct position. Reinstall the wiper and check your work.

Wiper has to manually be lifted before working – 1996 Chevrolet Beretta
ANSWER : You will have to replace the "wiper arm shaft" and/or wiper arm for the side which isn’t working. Both of these components have very small splines which interlock when the nut is tightened. A heavy snow or ice load can cause the splines to break down, or strip, rather than damage the electric motor. A certified technician from YourMechanic can replace the windshield wiper arm at your home or office.

windshield wiper missing spots
ANSWER : If the missing spots are within the area that is actually swept by the moving wiper blades, that means the spring tension on the arm is inadequate. Sometimes the spring that provides the tension will get rusty and sometimes the arm will bind, too, due to corrosion. If, on the other hand, the wiper arms are just not moving to the full extent over the glass, an adjustment is needed to the left and right stops on the motor or the control. Either fault can be readily repaired. If you desire that this problem be diagnosed by a certified Mechanic, dispatched by YourMechanic right to your location, please request a windshield wiper diagnostic and the responding certified mechanic will get this resolved for you.
