I have a loss of power when acceleration the car does not drive pass 10 or 15mph I change the plugs and also change the fuel filter still no results when I change the plugs the car started a knocking noise also so now I have no power in acceleration and I have a knocking noise at the same time

My car has 151000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
This may be result of a failing or dirty mass airflow sensor. This is a unit that is responsible for regulating the air flow into the engine as it is mixed with fuel prior to being injected into the motor. When this is not working properly, this will cause an imbalanced air/fuel mixture resulting in a stalling or surging in the vehicle’s performance. The knocking sound may also be a result of the struggling acceleration which is common when the engine struggles to develop power. I would suggest having an expert from YourMechanic come to your home to take a look at your vehicle, and possibly replace your mass airflow sensor at your earliest convenience.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Commonly, engine knocking occurs because of a buildup of oily carbon deposits inside the combustion chamber. This can be caused by burning oil or incomplete combustion from misfires, which coats pistons, cylinder heads, and other parts of your engine with residue.
The most likely issue is that a component is clogged. A clogged fuel filter is the most common reason, although a loss of power in your car could also indicate problems with the fuel pump or fuel line. Impurities or debris may be blocking the system, which causes the loss of power in a car.
Clogged car air filter

If you have a dirty or clogged air filter, not enough air is getting into the engine for optimal combustion, and there will be a lack of power when you are trying to accelerate, especially on Diesel vehicles.

Engine knocking may be caused by worn-out engine bearings. If the bearings are worn, they will not be able to support the weight of the engine, which can cause it to knock. Replacing the bearings may fix the issue.
Clean air filters and fuel injectors will reduce the strain on your car. An engaged emergency brake causes the brake to drag slowing down your car. Disengage the brake to solve this issue. Sometimes acceleration problems are just because of low fuel or poor quality of fuel.
Why does my car not accelerate when I push the gas? A car not accelerating properly can be caused by a number of things. It could be due to the throttle body, gas tank, spark plugs, or the ECU. It could also be because you have a dirty air filter or a clogged fuel filter.
A misfiring engine means the spark plug wires are not firing properly. This causes many problems, like increased exhaust emissions, reduced fuel economy, and reduced engine power.
Backfires are caused by an incorrect fuel to air ratio. These small explosions result in a loss of power when accelerating and a loud pop or bang. In some cases, this may even be accompanied by a burst of flames.
Knocking can damage the surface of the piston, the cylinder walls or the crankshaft bearings, all of which are expensive to repair. Modern computer-controlled injection systems can correct your fuel mixture to prevent knocking, but at the cost of engine performance.
If you do experience a knocking sound coming from your engine, it`s important to stop driving immediately and have a qualified mechanic diagnose and repair the problem. Allowing rod knock to continue unchecked can lead to serious damage to your engine and should be taken seriously.

the car is acting like its getting to much fuel. changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, and the fuel pump relay.
ANSWER : There could be a few things contributing to your problem. You are correct that clogged or sticking fuel injectors and possibly the fuel pressure regulator could be faulty. A plugged catalytic converter can also cause the vehicle to bog down. A failing throttle position sensor can cause the symptoms you describe as well. I suggest having a certified technician, like one from YourMechanic.com, do a few tests to determine the exact cause of your starting concern.

What could be the causing loss of power while accelerating leading to engine stalling? 2011 Chevrolet Aveo
ANSWER : Hi there – based on the symptoms you describe, I suspect that either the throttle position sensor or the fuel pump (or fuel pump relay) are failing. The result is either incorrect throttle position reported to the engine computer, or inadequate fuel pressure to fire the injectors. I recommend a car is stalling inspection by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose this problem, give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.

What causes poor fuel usage, loss of power, rough idle, check engine light, and now a weird whistling noise? We have replaced the
ANSWER : Hi there. It is very possible that the ECU is the source of all of these issues. If you recently replaced the ECU, but it was not reset or programmed by a Saturn dealership, it’s likely the reason for all of these problems. Although ECU’s are sold to consumers, they typically need to be "flashed" or programmed at a dealership to ensure they are properly communicating with all sensors and electrically operated or monitored systems on your vehicle. However, it is also possible that other fuel system components like mass air flow sensor or the fuel injectors themselves are damaged or simply need to be cleaned.

My car stutters after driving it for a few minutes – 2002 Toyota
ANSWER : This may also be caused by what is called the fuel pressure regulator. This is a unit that helps to maintain the fuel pressure at the proper level. When this is not working properly, the fuel pump may be pumping properly, but the fuel may not arrive at the fuel injectors at the proper psi. When this happens, this can cause a lean fuel condition which may cause the car to hesitate, misfire or stall. I would recommend having an expert from YourMechanic come to your location to diagnose your fuel pressure.

Power steering loss, no belts are turning but the car is running fine. I also have a soft pedal. Whats wrong with my car?
ANSWER : I have only seen this situation once in my 30+ years and it turned out to be a broken crankshaft pulley. Belts are driven by the engine. The crankshaft pulley spins the belts, which in turn spin the air conditioner compressor, power steering and water pumps, and the alternator. The vehicle should be towed to your local repair shop and not driven. Without the water pump spinning to circulate the coolant, the engine will quickly overheat and result in more extensive damage.

Car starts sometimes for a few seconds. Car ran completely out of gas. I changed the fuel filter, and change battery in the remote.
ANSWER : Hi there. The fuel pressure needs to be checked on the fuel rail. There should be at least 30 psi on the fuel rail. If the fuel pressure is good, then there could be air in the fuel rail causing the fuel system to lock up. Try turning on the ignition to the ’ON’ position 3 times with 30 seconds each time. This will help with the air in the system. When starting, hold the pedal on the floor, but just above the floor and crank the engine until the engine starts. If you need further assistance with your no start condition, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

Just replaced my fuel pump but its not getting any power tested fuel pump relay and fuel fuse both good tested the wires all good.
ANSWER : You need to look at the theft light on dash to make sure it comes on and goes off when you turn the key to the on position. If light comes on and stays on then your theft system is causing the fuel pump to not be engaged. I recommend you check the theft system and then scan the computer for theft system codes. You may need to reprogram the keys to work or you have an bad sensor for the ignition key in the steering column.
