My car has an automatic transmission.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
To check for engine-mount problems, you can try shifting from "neutral" to "drive" and back, while the engine is running. If the vibrations disappear or reduce dramatically in "neutral," it’s likely that you need new engine mounts. Whenever there is excessive engine vibration, be sure to first rule out engine operating conditions. For example, rough running at idle can be caused by faults in the air induction system as well as the ignition and fuel systems. If you want the running condition of the engine evaluated by a certified Mechanic, dispatched by YourMechanic right to your location, please request a rough idle diagnostic. To evaluate the motor mounts, request an engine vibration diagnostic. If you do end up replacing additional motor mounts, genuine OEM mounts are recommended in order to maximize the chances of resolving the problem. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

This lurch often steadies into a constant vibration, but you may then also experience a lurch when turning the ignition off. An engine mount that needs replacing can often cause a jolt when changing gears on an attached transmission.
The first obvious sign of bad motor mounts is; excessive engine vibration. Motor mounts are made to hold your engine in place and absorb vibration. If your engine is shaking in place, it`s probably a sign of bad motor mounts.
Y E S … Actually any weak or busted mount will cause vibration for that is the job of all mounrs, manage and absorb vibration.
When an engine or transmission mount fails, the result usually is harsh vibration from the movement between the body and drivetrain. When a mount fails, the rubber inside typically either has broken or deteriorated enough that it no longer will dampen movement, creating violent shakes or shutters.
Torque settings are available for these fasteners. The mounts will settle slightly after installation.
Positioning the mount incorrectly also can make it impossible to line up bolt holes, or you could experience unusual driveline conditions such as a heavy banging when you go over bumps caused by the driveshaft`s slip yoke slamming into the transmission`s tailshaft.
If left undiagnosed, a broken motor mount will damage other engine or transmission components. The most common symptom of engine or transmission mount failure is a shudder upon acceleration. It is a vibration experienced by the driver.

Are the motor mounts touched during a tune up? When are the motor mounts touched?
ANSWER : There is nothing in a basic tune up that would require loosening or touching the motor mounts. If the motor mounts are in fact loose, they could potentially cause damage to the axles if the motor were to shift enough while driving; however, this would take time and there would have been a very distinct vibration and clunk that you would have very likely noticed while driving. I would recommend having a certified technician, such as one from YourMechanic, come take a look at the car to properly diagnose and repair your motor mount problem.

What is cost to neutralize motor mounts, I switched out front mount but now it vibrates off of frame
ANSWER : I believe you need to replace all of your mounts. You are saying it is touching the frame, so I would suggest the rest of them be replaced also. You may also look around and see if you have anything obstructing the fact that it isn’t sitting properly. I hope this helps with your issue.

Car vibrate when in "D" or "R" although I have changed the 4 engine mounts. Changed 4 sparks and air filter and throttle cleanse
ANSWER : It seems you have covered the basics and changed the most common culprits for engine vibrations. I will recommend you have an experienced technician inspect the work done and the drivetrain for other problems. In some cases, an improperly installed new engine mount can cause a vibration to stay. Hire one of our experts here at Your Mechanic to inspect the previous work done and diagnose the source of the vibrations.

My car vibrate when I switch on the AC/ I changed e mount plus e spark plug but still vibrate a lot. Please help
ANSWER : Hello. There are several components that will lead to the vehicle vibrating when the A/C is on. With the motor mounts and spark plugs eliminated from the list, you should check into the operation of the air conditioning. The first place to check is the part that is related to engine speed, since it seems to play a factor. This is the compressor pulley and it may be loose or failing. Is the air conditioning system fully charged and pressurized? This may also be playing a factor and possibly amplifying the problem. If the compressor is failing, then it may be adding excess strain to the engine. There needs to be some further testing on the air conditioning system to make sure it is working correctly and not stressing out the engine.

I just paid $600 for motor mounts. Car still doing same thing. How can I tell if the mechanic actually changed the tranny mount?
ANSWER : The only way to know for sure if the mounts were changed is to do a visual check of the mount. If the mounts did not change the shaking on acceleration then you may need to have a second opinion from a mechanic like one from YourMechanic to see if the vibration is in the front axles or in the transmission itself. You may have a bad axle joint.

Engine vibrates alot…….whole car vibrates
ANSWER : Hi there. This is a mount problem. It is very common for the engine mounts to fail on a Mazda Premacy and still visually look good. I always remove them to physically check them for damage and wear. It can also be a harmonic balancer issue as I have seen these start to come loose and cause this. If you want to have this repaired, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to your home or office to diagnose the shaking you’re experiencing.

Still vibrating after new tires, re-alignment, and balancing when I go over 70 mph
ANSWER : Hello. If this is still occurring then you have an issue with something that is not spinning true or is out of round on the vehicle. If the vehicle is this new then it is usually caused by a wheel hub that is defective or a CV axle that is bad. From what you are explaining, it sounds like there is an issue with one of the axles. It may have lost a weight of its own or it may have too much play in the axle joint. I would usually get the vehicle in the air to inspect these areas for issues. I would also loosen the engine mounts to allow the engine and transmission to align themselves as there may be some binding there also. Since the vehicle is still under warranty you need to take it back to the dealer to have these issues checked.
