How much is it for a mechanic to come out a take a look at my car

Not sure what the problem is need it checked out
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hi There,
Depending on whether or not the vehicle will turn over will determine what the next step should be. If the engine does not turn over, I would recommend checking all connections related to the battery and check to be sure the starter relay is producing power to the starter. If the engine does turn over, this may be related to a spark or fuel supply problem. Things like ignition coils, spark plugs, spark plug wires or ignition module are all components that help to create spark and control ignition timing which may cause the motor to not produce spark or the correct timing needed to ignite the fuel in the motor. In the case of a fuel delivery problem, this may be related to low fuel pressure, or potentially a faulty fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump. Fuel delivery problems will typically not allow the proper amount of fuel to be delivered to the cylinders which results in a lean fuel condition which can cause backfiring or simply cause the motor not to start as a result of fuel starvation. In some cases too much fuel may be supplied to the motor causing too much fuel to be introduced to the motor faster than what it can burn it. This results in the motor being flooded with too much fuel also causing it not to run properly. Any of the above possibilities can create an imbalance in the proper air/fuel ratio as well which will cause the motor to run very rough or not at all. I would recommend having an expert from YourMechanic come to your location to diagnose and inspect your vehicle.

When I turn on my AC the radiator fans do not turn on. The fans do come on when the car warms up so I know they are working and the fuses are good. The AC compressor does come on and the air blows ice cold when the car is moving. Car is a 2006 Chrysler Sebring Sedan 2.7l v6.
ANSWER : The control circuit for the fans needs to be checked. For example, there is usually a condenser fan relay in the A/C electrical controls. There could be a fault with that relay and/or wiring problems, perhaps even just a loose connection, blown or loose fuse, and so forth. To resolve something like this, the recommended service is an electrical component diagnostic. If you request that diagnostic service, the responding certified mechanic will get the problem pinpointed and resolved. Battery and oil light come on when trying to start car, take keys out try again car starts no problem and lights go away
ANSWER : Of course, don’t switch gears without being fully stopped, unless your Owner’s Manual or the manufacturer has alternative advice. However, the gear shift issue has no relation to the no-start problem you are describing. Inasmuch as you only have 6,000 miles on the car, the "constant on and off" that you believe has occurred is meaningless in comparison to the expected total vehicle service life. That is, assume what you perceive as "constant on and off", during merely 6,000 miles, might be equivalent to using the car "normally" for three years. A new car should be trouble free for at least 5 years, unless there is a defect, so your "constant on and off" is not a causal factor for any fault on the vehicle. What you might have is a defect in the ignition switch, or perhaps the immobilizer system, but if the problem is not in the switch itself, clearly there is an electrical problem.

If your vehicle is under warranty, by law the dealer MUST repair the issue you are describing within a prescribed time frame and number of "attempts", otherwise the dealer will run afoul of Federal and state Lemon Laws that give you very specific rights, and recourse (contact an Attorney; we are Mechanics, NOT attorneys). Consequently, if the vehicle is still under warranty, to save yourself money do be sure to seek a resolution from the dealer. If the vehicle is not under warranty, obviously a certified Mechanic from YourMechanic could identify the electrical fault and resolve this for you. If you want to go that route, please simply request a no start diagnostic -electrical system and the responding certified mechanic will get this taken care of for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

ANSWER : Hi there:

If you recently replaced your battery, the issue may be caused by a malfunctioning alternator or other electrical component that comprises the charging system on your Nissan Sentra. The best way to find out which item specifically is faulty, is to have a professional mobile mechanic complete a car is hard to start inspection. This will allow the mechanic to determine the precise source of what’s going on with your Sentra and recommend or complete the right repairs.

A large clunking noise is coming from the front left of my car anytime I start my car, and anytime I go over a pothole/speedbump
ANSWER : Hi, thanks for writing in. If simply starting your car causes a clunk, then you may have another damaged motor or transmission mount (there are 4 total). You should replace all 4 mounts. When one mount fails, it allows excess motion of the engine/transmission, damaging the other mounts as well. It is false economy, generally speaking, with the age and mileage of your Honda, to do them one at a time. If you would like help with these replacements, consider having an expert automotive technician from YourMechanic come to your home or office to perform the engine mount replacements for you.

I’ve had two mechanics come out and look at my car only to have my vehicle not fixed. I’ve wanted enough money and will probably n
ANSWER : Parts should never be replaced unless they are tested, and once tested, found to be faulty. All the parts replaced thus far might have been perfectly good as it is obvious if your car is still not running, nobody has performed a competent diagnostic. The only way to get the car running is to find out why it won’t start. Engines need compression, fuel and air in the RIGHT ratio, and an ignition source at the right time to start, period. So, basically, you start with compression. If compression is within spec, you look at fuel. Fuel has to be fresh (if six months old, it won’t ignite) and the fuel has to actually reach the cylinders so for example the fuel tank could be full of fresh fuel but the fuel filter might be clogged. The amount of fuel has to be correct so if the engine temperature sensor is broken, thus not allowing the PCM to supply enough "added" fuel on cold start, the engine won’t start. A spark can be detected visually. With air supply, you have to evaluate whether the idle air control valve works. There are other obvious requirements such as no vacuum leaks. I truly share your dismay in the experience you have endured. And, I emphasize "truly" simply because it is utterly irrational to hire someone who wastes your time and money and just leaves you stuck. At this juncture, to get your situation resolved without any further nonsense, just request a no start diagnostic and the mechanic will get it resolved. As I often joke, a car is not the "space shuttle". Yes, there a lot of wires and different components but, at the end of day, such is limited and there will be an identifiable reason why your car won’t start. If you request the diagnostic, the mechanic will find that reason and give you an explanation so that you can understand what is going on. Once the cause is found, he or she will inform you as to the required repair. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

My car is not going in reverse and in neutral. It only goes forward, Why? How much charges it will take to fix?
ANSWER : Hi there. The transmission could have overheated as the vehicle was trying to escape the snow. Going back and forth many times will overheat the transmission fluid and make it boil. This will cause clutch materials within the transmission to burn up and no longer work. The smoke that you were seeing could be coming from the transmission as the reverse input clutch could have been burning, or oil on the transmission burning off as the transmission could have been getting hot. I recommend seeking out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you with your transmission.

Billing question sent to CS for the cost of the diagnostics and repair of the transmission issue.

When shifting into 1st gear and attempting to take off, car shakes and then stalls. Car also won’t let me shift into reverse.
ANSWER : Hi there. Either the shifter rail is damaged inside the transmission keeping the gears from going into reverse and the first gear from connecting all the way, or the transmission first and reverse gears are damaged causing the transmission to have a hesitation on the forward 1st gear and no reverse. I recommend seeking out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you diagnose your transmission shifting issue.
