Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
As you may have already learned, the code p0017 indicates an issue with the crankshaft position sensor. This would mean that that transmission doesn’t understand the speed and can’t send the same information to the transmission. I don’t think your car needs a new engine just based on this code alone. With all the repairs that you’ve done, it’s possible that the ECM is faulty and is producing the code. I recommend having a professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, reset the codes and inspect the Check Engine Light thoroughly in order to make a proper diagnosis.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Since this code can occur due to several issues, including a mistimed engine, it can cause destructive engine damage and leave you with expensive repairs. Moreover, if you don`t fix the DTC P0017 on time, it can cause carbon deposits to form on the valves and pistons, damaging your car`s spark plugs.
What causes the P0017 code? The valve timing is out of position from a timing chain jumped out of position. There are oil flow problems to the phaser from incorrect oil viscosity or partly clogged passages. The oil control valve (OCV) has a restriction in the OCV filter.
What Does the P0017 Code Mean? Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0017 stands for “Camshaft Position B – Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1).” Like P0016, this code indicates that your car`s powertrain control module (PCM) detects a misalignment between the crankshaft and camshaft positions.
Note that the “B” means that this sensor is located in the exhaust side of the cylinder head. Bank 1 means that the sensor is located in the engine bank with cylinder 1.
Note that the “B” means that this sensor is located in the exhaust side of the cylinder head. Bank 1 means that the sensor is located in the engine bank with cylinder 1.
Error code P0340 indicates a malfunction with the camshaft position sensor A circuit. This type of malfunction can cause serious issues that require immediate repair because the underlying cause of the code could damage your vehicle`s engine if you continue to drive it.

Reduced engine power and car shuts off
ANSWER : Hi there. If there is carbon build up on the valves in the engine then that can cause a rough running condition and even a check engine light but that will not usually cause the vehicle to stall. It sounds like you have another issue going on here. From my experience with this vehicle most of the time this is caused by a voltage issue. Most of the time it is a loose or dirty ground connection or an issue with the ignition switch. I usually start by scanning the computer for codes to see what is coming up as that can assist in finding the issue. If the codes do not help then the electrical system would need to be diagnosed to see where the power is being lost. If you need to have this looked at, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to you to [diagnose why the check engine light is on and why the vehicle is stalling] https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/car-is-stalling-inspection

Check engine light refuses to go off after engine replaced
ANSWER : Hello there, you have a long series of issues going on with your 2013 Hyundai Sonata. If you keep getting a repeating oil light on than there is likely a fault in that system.

Since this fault has lasted after the engine was replaced it could be a oil pressure sensor, wiring harness fault, ECU fault, oil pump, oil strainer clogged, or low oil pressure.

To diagnose this issue properly you need a complete vehicle inspection to start from square one and identify the root cause of all this.

Engine swap details needed. I need to know if the swap will fit.
ANSWER : Hi there. When it comes to swapping engines for your vehicle, what you can do is check all of the engine mounts and transmission mounts and make sure that they will work. If the mounts are a little off but there is room, then you may have to retro fit a custom mount. Check the length of the engine and the transmission assembly together. Make sure that the assembly is the same length. It may be okay if it’s a few inches shorter or longer, however, it cannot exceed 3 inches or the assembly will not fit. There has to be room for the engine to move around. Also, keep in mind, the CV shafts may not match up to the transmission and wheel hubs, especially if the transmission is shorter or longer. If you need further assistance with swapping your engine with another engine, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

I put the wrong key in my car and a few weeks later my car just shut down and it will not start I believe it’s the computer but…

Try removing the battery cables (+) and (-) for 13 minutes. During that time, put the original key in the ignition and turn it on. Activate everything in the car even though there is no power. Then remove the key and hook up the battery cables. The computer should have reset and reset the security. If the security is still being tripped, then I recommend seeking out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you

Engine light came on after washing engine 2 days later then went off and oil lamp came on three times – driving – went off.
ANSWER : Well, you have a couple of questions here and not a lot to go on, so I’ll address them as best I can. Your Check Engine light indicates that a trouble code from a sensor has been registered in the engine’s computer. You’ll need to have a certified technician, like one from YourMechanic, connect a scanner/code reader to the car’s diagnostic connector to inspect what trouble codes have been stored. Trouble codes are a starting point for any technician; in most cases, simply replacing the sensor that sent the code will not remedy the problem and it’s necessary to "look past" the code to get to the root cause.

If your oil pressure lamp is coming on after washing the engine but you haven’t previously noticed problems like knocking or valve noise, or haven’t seen the oil lamp come on before, there’s a good chance that the engine wash caused a short in your oil pressure sending unit or its associated wiring or connectors.

As for whether the Jeep is worth more investment, Kelly Blue Book puts the resale value of an ’04 Jeep Liberty at about $3,500. You’ve replaced a lot of parts, including a new transmission, so if the vehicle is reliable and solid right now it may be worth holding onto it for awhile longer. If you have to keep replacing parts at this point, though, you may be reaching the point of diminishing returns.

If you need assistance with this, consider YourMechanic as one of our mobile technicians can diagnose your car’s Check Engine and Oil Pressure Light firsthand to avoid any unnecessary repairs. Best of luck to you!

Check engine light on brand new car
ANSWER : Hello. Thank you for writing in. A vehicle being that new should not have any kind of warning lights. If you think there is an operator error, look to your owners manual for more information about the vehicle. This is your best source for information about the way the vehicle is designed to perform. You likely have a warranty that will cover this. The burning smell is a definite sign that there is an issue. Even with an operator error, the engine should be fine. The parking brake however may be an issue. Make sure she is disengaging it. The engine only having 200 miles on it, is not broken in yet. The engine works best after around 1,000 miles. For an inspection into what the check engine light is trying to tell you, contact our service department.
