Hi There,
The EPC light is typically related to the ECM (computer) not receiving the proper signal from the crankshaft position sensor. A crankshaft position sensor is an electronic device used to monitor the position or rotational speed of the crankshaft. This information is used by engine management systems to control the fuel injection or the ignition system timing and other engine parameters. When this is faulty or not working properly, this will cause problems with the ignition system and generating spark transmission to the spark plugs resulting in starting problems and other performance issues causing misfires. I would recommend having an expert from YourMechanic come to your location to diagnose and inspect your vehicle.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

An EPC light typically illuminates when there is a loss of power in your vehicle. If the computer in your Audi detects a problem with any of the components of the throttle system, it may reduce power output to lessen the stress on your vehicle`s engine.
EPC light comes on when there`s an issue with your throttle system. The Accelerator pedal, cruise control, throttle body, traction control. But if your battery is bad it could be a cause of the issue as well. First start with the battery and get that going and make sure the cable are good as well.
What does EPC mean on an Audi? The EPC system stands for “Electric Power Control”, and if you see the EPC light flashing your dashboard, this indicates that there is a problem with the throttle system or the sensors in your electric Audi.
When the EPC light comes on, there is an issue with the throttle pedal, throttle body, traction control, or cruise control. Due to the nature of the engine shaking while both lights are on, this would be due to a loss of fuel or a high volume of fuel to the cylinders.
In normal operation, your vehicle`s Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is the “brain” of the car, enabling the engine, drivetrain, and other systems to operate properly. The EPC works in concert with the ECU to monitor functions, and if something goes wrong, the EPC flashes a warning light on the dash.
YourVolkswagen EPC light, also known as the Electronic Power Control warning light, is an indicator pointing to issues with your Volkswagen`s throttle system. This could mean that the throttle pedal, throttle body, traction control, or cruise control unit need attention.
However, engine oil is crucial to a healthy engine and lubricated parts, so it`s possible an issue that has triggered the EPC light is caused by low oil.
If you want to fix the EPC light yourself, you can try the following: first, start the car normally. Then, start the car for the second time and push the gas pedal to the floor when the engine starts. In some cases, this works. It is also a good idea to check the electrical connections on the throttle body.
Limp home mode is a mode that your VW and most other modern vehicles can put themselves into in order to preserve the engine. Basically, when the car deems the engine safe to operate but not safe to operate at all RPM levels, it will limit the RPM and sometimes even the gear.
It uses the throttle body to control the engine power and if there is a problem with the throttle body, the EPC system cannot function properly. The majority of body throttles are electric and if there is an issue, it will light up the engine check light and the EPC light will appear on your dashboard.

Battery and oil light come on when trying to start car, take keys out try again car starts no problem and lights go away
ANSWER : Of course, don’t switch gears without being fully stopped, unless your Owner’s Manual or the manufacturer has alternative advice. However, the gear shift issue has no relation to the no-start problem you are describing. Inasmuch as you only have 6,000 miles on the car, the "constant on and off" that you believe has occurred is meaningless in comparison to the expected total vehicle service life. That is, assume what you perceive as "constant on and off", during merely 6,000 miles, might be equivalent to using the car "normally" for three years. A new car should be trouble free for at least 5 years, unless there is a defect, so your "constant on and off" is not a causal factor for any fault on the vehicle. What you might have is a defect in the ignition switch, or perhaps the immobilizer system, but if the problem is not in the switch itself, clearly there is an electrical problem.

If your vehicle is under warranty, by law the dealer MUST repair the issue you are describing within a prescribed time frame and number of "attempts", otherwise the dealer will run afoul of Federal and state Lemon Laws that give you very specific rights, and recourse (contact an Attorney; we are Mechanics, NOT attorneys). Consequently, if the vehicle is still under warranty, to save yourself money do be sure to seek a resolution from the dealer. If the vehicle is not under warranty, obviously a certified Mechanic from YourMechanic could identify the electrical fault and resolve this for you. If you want to go that route, please simply request a no start diagnostic -electrical system and the responding certified mechanic will get this taken care of for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

Car won’t start. The check engine light, battery light, and oil change light are coming on. I tried jumping the car and nothing happened. Why won’t my car start?
ANSWER : Hi and thanks for contacting Your Mechanic. If sometimes your vehicle will start with the new alternator and sometimes it won’t, then there is a loose connection in your charging system. Check all of the wires to the alternator and to the battery. Make sure that the battery cables are clean and tight. Make sure that the wires to the starter are clean and tight. A loose ground to the ignition system will cause the vehicle to not crank over. Check all of the ground wires from the battery to the starter. Make sure that they are clean and tight. If you need further assistance troubleshooting your no start situation, then seek out a technician, such as one from Your Mechanic, that can assist you.

2012 equinox reduced power light engine light and traction light came on. Lost a lot of power got home and all light except engine
ANSWER : Your car has what is called a "safe mode" that will be engaged by the computer when it detects that something critical has gone wrong related to any of the major components in your engine chassis or power train. This may be related to a number of things, most of which should have been registered in the computer when the check engine light came on. I recommend having an expert from YourMechanic come to your location to inspect your check engine light and diagnose any codes registered by your vehicle’s computer.

My car will not start Intermittently. I purchased a new battery 2 weeks ago and yesterday the car wouldn’t start. Got a jump and
ANSWER : The issue you are having is probably due to an intermittent fault in the starter motor itself or a deficiency in the starter electrical circuit, for example a large voltage drop due to a poor ground or a high resistance connection. These issues can be readily diagnosed and resolved on a mobile basis if you request a hard starting diagnostic. If you request that diagnostic, the responding certified mechanic will get this resolved for you promptly. Based on Toyota’s Factory Service Manual, the battery should not be disconnected if the vehicle engine is running. The battery acts as a large resistive voltage sink and consequently taking the battery out of the circuit, while the alternator is still running, can create a voltage spike on the car’s electrical system which is not good for voltage sensitive components such as the engine computer. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

Was driving on the expressway and my car started shaking, check engine light turned on, oil light turned on and off
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. Shaking and vibrating typically comes from a misfire, or poor engine performance. A lack of oil will absolutely contribute to these symptoms and amplify them, if not cause them to begin with. You want to turn your attention to the cause of the oil leak. If external (you can see the leaking oil), then you will want to trace the leak to the component which has failed. If the leak is internal (or the engine is consuming oil), the leak will be harder to find. It will also explain the poor engine performance due to excess oil in the combustion chamber. A head gasket is one of the main components that will fail and cause these issues. It is however not common for a vehicle this age to have these kinds of problems. You will also want to scan the computer, and see what codes are triggering your check engine light. These diagnostic tools will help you determine what system(s) is to blame for the malfunction. I was driving and my dash lights and everything turned off and eventually my car started losing power
ANSWER : It could be that your alternator has failed and for some reason you didn’t get any warning lights. Usually you can drive a car with a bad alternator for a few hours before the battery voltage is too low to keep things working. Now the battery is dead and you can’t get anything to work. I don’t recommend you trying to jump start the car, there is too much that can go wrong and it wouldn’t get you anywhere since you apparently aren’t charging.
