Car turning over but not cranking?

I just got this car and the gas hand didn't work when I got it. Not that big of a deal. Well I drove this car from NC to South Florida and it did great there but on the way back in SC I ran out of gas. I added more gas and it cranked right up and I drove home, no issue. The next day it cranked right up and I drove to town. While in town it wouldn't crank. My dad came and checked it and said it's a fuel problem somewhere. He said it's like the injectors aren't firing. He said possibly a crankshaft position sensor. We left it a couple of hours and came back and he removed the
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Are there any trouble codes stored in the computer? Typically a crankshaft position sensor would show the symptom of cranking and not starting and the fuel injectors will fire, but there will be no spark. If the vehicle does have fuel and spark, a faulted idle air control valve or intake air temperature sensor may cause a crank no start problem. Since the vehicle has been run out of fuel before, the first thing I would check is fuel pressure. Consider hiring an experienced technician like one from YourMechanic who can come out for a closer look at the vehicle to offer a more personal diagnosis of your no start concerns.

Broken or Damaged Ignition

If your headlights can turn on, but your car won`t crank, that means that your battery is charged, but either the starter or ignition is the problem. If the starter or ignition is the problem, a starter engine can be jumped by using a charged battery.

If your vehicle won`t start, it`s usually caused by a dying or dead battery, loose or corroded connection cables, a bad alternator or an issue with the starter. It can be hard to determine if you`re dealing with a battery or an alternator problem.
Bad Alternator

If your car won`t start, but your battery is fine, chances are you have a bad alternator. This is another charging system issue, like a dead battery, that won`t let you start your car.

If you turn the key and hear the starter spinning madly but don`t hear the engine cranking, then the pinion gear isn`t thrusting forward. If you turn the key and hear crunching and gnashing, then the teeth on the pinion gear, or the flywheel, or both, are probably damaged.

While a Saturn can experience the same issues as any other car, there are a few recurring issues that Saturn owners have reported over the years. Saturn owners are more likely to deal with transmission issues, gas cap problems, power steering issues, and powertrain control module malfunctions.
Car not starting: Another symptom of a faulty ignition relay is a no power condition. If the relay fails it will cut off power to fuel pump and ignition system, which will result in a no power, and therefore no start condition.
The starter relay makes a clicking sound, but the engine does not rotate, which indicates that the starter motor is not receiving enough current from the relay. This may also be a sign of low or exhausted battery power. Only when it transmits enough current to the starter, the relay starts to work.
The battery can be fully charged but still not be able to start the vehicle if it is failing or has a dead cell. Other likely issues are the fuel pump, ignition switch, battery cables, starter, or a clogged fuel filter.
Among the 2.5 million cars that General Motors is recalling due to defective ignition switches are thousands of Saturn Ions produced from 2003-2007. The ignition switch in these Saturn Ion models lacks enough torque to keep the key in the “on” position if the driver accidentally bumps it with his or her knee.
The most common reason a Chevy car (or any car) won`t start is a dead battery. If you have a battery tester, check your charge to see if it`s low. A dead battery can also be jumpstarted with jumper cables.
If your carbureted engine turns or cranks but won`t start, there`s not enough fuel or spark. Here`s what could be causing your engine to crank: Bad crankshaft position sensor. Clogged fuel injectors.
It should be under the hood,in fuse panel,if not on the driver firewall.
The average cost for a Saturn SL1 Starter Replacement is between $500 and $526.

Saturn`s environment is not conducive to life as we know it. The temperatures, pressures, and materials that characterize this planet are most likely too extreme and volatile for organisms to adapt to.
Unfortunately, that means that most Saturns only have a few more years left in them, even though Saturns can function well past 200,000 miles on the odometer. Older Saturns, especially the ones that are approaching 20 years old or older, should only be expected to last for another 3-5 years at most.

ANSWER : Hello there. The charging system on the car may not be charging the battery as you drive and the systems that keep the engine running are priority so the engine will stay running until the voltage drops below about 9 volts but the lighting and some other accessories may cut off above this voltage first. You should have the charging system tested to see if the alternator needs to be replaced.

Both are signs of a higher-mileage engine with significant wear. I recommend an engine inspection performed by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose this problem, and give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.

The starter off and on wont turn over when trying to crank the car.
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. Often when starters are installed they come with a shim. These shims need to be installed to help hold the starter at the proper angle. If the angle is off the gears may not mesh correctly putting excess pressure on it that the starter cannot compete with. If the starter did not come with a shim, or you do not have it anymore, you can likely purchase or fabricate one relatively easily. If this does not solve the issue, make sure there are no wires that are being pinched or shorted out when the full weight of the car is being supported. Engine turned off but inside of car still on, now engine won’t turn back on.
ANSWER : Hi there. The symptoms you’re describing with your boyfriend’s 2002 Grand Cherokee appear to be related to a broken or worn out ignition switch or relay. The ignition switch on the inside of the steering column is attached to multiple electronic connections that send signals to a relay box; which in turn, sends the signal to the individual components. The issue could be related to the ignition switch, the relay, or any of the components in between. If you want to have the fault pinpointed in person, I would have this starting issue inspected by a trained professional to ensure that the correct repair is made.

When I turn on my AC the radiator fans do not turn on. The fans do come on when the car warms up so I know they are working and the fuses are good. The AC compressor does come on and the air blows ice cold when the car is moving. Car is a 2006 Chrysler Sebring Sedan 2.7l v6.
ANSWER : The control circuit for the fans needs to be checked. For example, there is usually a condenser fan relay in the A/C electrical controls.
