How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

There are a multitude of reasons why your car window might not roll up, including: The fuses are blown, preventing the electrical controls handling the window from working. The child safety lock is engaged by accident. The window switch is functioning correctly, but the window motor has malfunctioned.
Common reasons for this to happen: Faulty window motor: Window motors tend to wear down with age and may even create a slower rotation when they begin to go out. The window moving up or down slowly may be the only indication of this problem, or the motor may also make a labored whirring sound when it is in operation.
If you are only replacing the power window motor and not the regulator itself, you will need to disconnect it and connect it to your new power window motor. Visually inspect the two to make sure the new motor matches the old one, then swap the regulator.
It sounds like your regulator is not aligned correctly and not riveted in all the needed places. It could also be that your door metal has a crack in it, and when the window raises to a certain level, the metal in the door can`t support it and it gets out of alignment.
Your power windows might be slow because your alternator is dying. The alternator not only keeps the battery charged, but it helps power your vehicle`s accessories and components.
If the track is clogged due to use or your window has a broken latch, the sash will not slide smoothly. In such cases, lubrication can be your best bet. For sliding windows, silicone-based lubricants work the best since they usually do not harm the window framing material.
Troubleshooting a Stuck Electric Car Window

Press and hold the window switch in a closed position. Keep the button depressed and push the side that closes the window. Open and slam the car door while the window button is depressed. Try it a few times until the window opens.

Hold the key down for 2-5 seconds after the window is down.

Once your window is all the way down, hold the button down for 2-5 seconds. Release the button after you`ve held it down for a short period of time. On some vehicles, the required time to reset the window is 2 seconds. On others, it is 5 seconds.

Check the fuse

Other cars have individual fuses for each window motor so failure will only affect the one window. In some cars the fuse is in the main fusebox but many makers use in-line fuses so check with your manual to find where the fuse is and replace it if blown.

Typically in Business or First Class. Misaligned Window. Windows are a set distance apart, but seats can be spaced in many different ways. Sometimes this will result in a seat being between two windows. You`ll have to lean forward or recline to get a good view out of this type of window.
If your car window will go down but not up, then the problem is likely a bad window switch. Identifying a malfunctioning window switch is sort of the opposite of diagnosing a bad window motor.
Typical issues include the window turning sideways in the door on the way up, digging into the door causing the window to move slowly and bind up on the way down, the window falling off the tracks inside the door, causing a grinding noise and no window movement, or the window falling all the way down into the door.

After replacing the window regulator, and using the same motor, the window doesn’t go all the way down.
ANSWER : Hey there. There is a safety limit switch that is built into the motor. You may have to check the window track or inside the door for something blocking the window regulator from going all the way down. You may also have to try to push down on the window when lowering it since the motor will kick out when using the auto-down feature. You may need to replace the motor also. I just replaced the front passenger window regulator and motor and it works but only when i am using the rear passenger switch
ANSWER : Your Audi uses a window control module to operate the windows. The switches send a command to the module, and the module sends the power to the window motors. I’ve seen the modules do some screwy things, especially when the battery voltage gets low, but I wouldn’t run out and buy a module just yet. It may be possible to communicate with it with the right software and there might be some re-set that can be done. If you contact Your Mechanic, they can send a technician to your home or office to check out your spooky windows and tell you whether you need a new module or something else.

If the wheels are good in the track, then check the cable inside the regulator and make sure that it is tight. ANSWER : Hello – the window regulator has a lever or ’"arm" which attaches to the metal frame holding the window. There will be a pin which connects the window frame and the window regulator arm.
