AC blower going out?

my car issue is that the condensation line on my husbands 09 spyder eclipse got clogged. A few days after it was unclogged the blower has gotten to where it barely works. we turn it to 4 and it will turn on for a few minutes then turn off. then it will turn back on a few minutes later.
My car has an automatic transmission.
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
The clogged line caused the evaporator case to flood out. The problem is the blower motor and the blower motor control resistor may of got flooded out with the water and caused them to short out. If you can get the blower to work sometimes then the motor and resistor would need to be replaced. Make sure the drain is fully clear and no water is getting into the motor or resistor before you replace the parts. I recommend having a mechanic like one from YourMechanic come and replace the blower motor and resistor for you.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

Inadequate air flow within the system. Buildup of dust, dirt, or debris. Electrical problems, including an excessive voltage supply. Motor insulation failing prematurely due to high temperatures.
Faulty compressors usually malfunction and cause overheating: when overheating occurs, it can cause your AC unit to turn off and on frequently. Defective compressors can cause more problems for your AC system and cause the other components to wear and tear faster.
If little air is coming through the vents (hot or cold), then it could be because the blower motor for the fan or a switch or resistor that controls fan speed isn`t working. Another cause might be that the electronically controlled “blend doors” that direct air flow are stuck or broken.
If your air conditioner only stays on for a few minutes at a time and shuts off before it has a chance to cool your home, this is called short-cycling. The issue is relativity common and can have a range of causes, from a clogged air filter to an oversized system.
The location of the reset button will depend on the model of your furnace, but it can typically be found on the side of the blower motor inside the blower compartment. Once you locate the reset button, press and hold it for 30 seconds. Then, release the button and wait for 30 seconds.
Many vehicles have two fuses for the blower motor, one in the interior fuse block and the other under the hood. The blower motor is usually under the dashboard on the passenger side.
Generally speaking, though, the AC fan control module is not a component that you should expect to last the life of your vehicle. You will likely have to replace it every 3-4 years.
It is usually located inside the blower compartment on the side of the blower motor. Be cautious as the housing may be hot. If the button is popped up, press it down.
A furnace cycling on and off repeatedly can be caused by various reasons, from dirty filters and obstructions in ducts and registers to incorrect thermostat settings and faulty limit switches.
Blower motors are designed to circulate air, so they won`t work if there`s no air to move. You should always check the filters and vents surrounding the blower to make sure that the blower isn`t having a hard time working. Look into your air filter`s housing and check the markings on your filter.
Blower resistors are resistors which are used to control the fan speed of automotive blowers. The fan speed can be changed either by switching the blower resistor resistance mechanically using a rotating lever, or electronically by the air conditioning system.
Weak or Absent Airflow

Weak airflow or total lack of it is the most obvious sign of a bad blower motor. The problem could be due to a clogged blower from accumulated dust or debris. It could also be due to leaky air ducts or a bad capacitor.

Your car`s blower motor is not only necessary for the operation of your air conditioner. Without a functioning blower motor your engine runs the risk of overheating.
Fuse Protection

To protect the blower motor power circuit, a 20-, 25- or 30-amp fuse is usually located in the fuse panel under the dash. The rating of the fuse will depend on the vehicle application and how much power the blower motor requires at full speed.

The national average cost for a blower motor relay replacement in 2023 is $124.
Your motor will wear out over time—this is just part of the general wear and tear your vehicle experiences. As this happens, it means the motor won`t be able to push as much air through your vehicle`s HVAC system, so you`ll start to notice that the blowers aren`t nearly as powerful as they once were.
Should you drive with a bad heater blower motor? A bad heater blower motor will not affect the safety of your car, with the possible exception of you not being able to clear the windshield of snow, ice, or condensation if the defrosters don`t work.
The blower motor relay is the electrical switch that is used to supply the power for the vehicle`s blower motor. The blower motor is the component responsible for pushing air through the vents of your vehicle`s heating and air conditioning systems.
The blower motor resistor controls the power to the system`s blower motor. When it fails, it can cut off all power to the motor. When the blower motor doesn`t get power, air pressure can`t be produced. You are left with a heater or air conditioner with nothing coming out of the vents.
If the resistor shorts or fails, it may cause the blower motor to remain stuck on one fan speed. The heating and air conditioning systems may still function at one speed, however the resistor will have to be replaced in order for full functionality to be restored.
Can a Blower Motor Be Repaired? Sometimes the problem with a blower motor is dirt and dust buildup. There might also be a bad capacitor. In these cases, an HVAC technician can usually fix the problem without replacing the entire motor.
Screeching and squealing sounds are indicators of bearing issues in the drive furnaces. A rattling or knocking noise from your heating system could mean damaged or broken components. Banging sounds are the most serious noises to be aware of, and at times, it means that the entire blower motor needs replacement.
Weak airflow can happen due to several reasons like a clogged air filter, blocked vents, accumulation of debris around the outdoor unit, leaking ducts, low refrigerant level, fan problems, etc.

My car won’t go past 35mph
ANSWER : Hi there. From the description you provided, your vehicle has problems with the transmission again. You stated it will not shift into 3rd gear again, like before the transmission was rebuilt. If the transmission is again the problem, it should be covered under warranty. It could be a faulty shift solenoid. The shift indicator not reading properly could be a faulty transmission position sensor. If this is an overall lack of performance issue, according to your last statement, then possibly you have a restriction in the exhaust system. I recommend having your vehicle’s problems inspected and diagnosed by a certified technician from YourMechanic.

2004 jeep grand cherokee v8 4×4 ac fresh air/ recirculation door.
ANSWER : The cost depends on exactly you want done. If the re-circulation door is part of a larger assembly either that larger assembly has to be removed and replaced or a field fabricated repair has to be installed such that you can once again toggle between outside air versus re-circulation. As far as possible blockages, or failures of other "doors" in the dash network, that would have to first be diagnosed to determine what, if any repairs are needed. The issue could be the doors are only opening partway, there could be actuators that are stuck and so forth. A complete repair is possible but both of the issues you are describing would have to be looked at up close to give you an exact cost estimate. If you desire a complete diagnostic on the issue, and thence an authoritative estimate, please request a ventilation/blower system inspection and the responding certified mechanic will get this resolved promptly. If you have further questions or concerns as you decide what to do, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic because we want you to make the most of your repair dollars and help you get the best possible results.

Can running the blowers for the AC with the engine off drain the battery?
ANSWER : The problem is although the current draw over 45 minutes might be "low", your battery might be weak, meaning it could have a bad cell and a low reserve capacity. It doesn’t take much to "drain" a weak battery. A confusing thing though is your car is only a year or two old thus making a weak (i.e., "old") battery hypothesis, well, weak. Nevertheless, the thing to do is have your battery load tested (any battery shop will do this for free) to determine its actual condition. If it passes the load test (ask for copy of results so you can see the margin by which it passed), it is possible you have excess current draw in your car’s electrical system. Also consider the possibility that during your most recent break, maybe you inadvertently turned the headlights on which would add to the discharge. Get your battery tested, and if it is OK but the starting difficulty returns, a certified technician from YourMechanic, can diagnose your electrical system.
