Right front brake?? comes on when turning on a left hand curve in the road. not every curve but always the same curve.

While driving on a road with a left turn it feels like the right front brake is being applied and the dash panel light for traction control will come on. It will not happen on every left turn but will always happen on the same left hand curves. It is two wheel drive. It has been doing it for about 100,000 miles. Rear brake lights will come on. Put new tires on it and it will go away for about 3000 miles and then return.Toyota has never heard of it and can not fix it.

My car has 218000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
This is definitely an odd symptom, however it sounds like there may potentially be a brake line (possibly to the right side caliper) being pinched or hung up causing the caliper to grab when turning left. This is something that will require further physical inspection of the car in order to properly diagnose. I would recommend having a professional from YourMechanic come to your location to take a look at your car to properly diagnose your braking system.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

Because the ABS and traction control often share the same module, a problem with one mechanism might be indicated by a light for both. If the brake system is malfunctioning, the traction control light might come on as a result. The light for your ABS might also come on if the brake fluid is low.
The VSC light is easily identifiable. It typically appears as a car with sliding skid lines underneath it. If that light flickers on as you drive, it means your Sienna is losing traction but your VSC system is working to maintain your grip on the road.
It`s a type of car problem that`s not hard to notice. 2004 Toyota Sienna transmission problems could include shifting delays, grinding when accelerating, the car shaking at any speed, or a burning smell or whistling sounds coming from under the hood.
So, if your vehicle`s traction control light is on, it may be as simple as making sure your traction control is not turned off. Commonly located near the steering wheel on the instrument plane, you will be able to turn it back on via a simple switch.
As a result, there`s not really much maintenance to perform. Still, most owner`s manuals will recommend changing the transmission fluid every 90,000 miles or so.
It`s a type of car problem that`s not hard to notice. 2021 Toyota Sienna transmission problems could include shifting delays, grinding or jumping during acceleration, a feeling of shakiness, or whistling noises and a burning smell coming from under the hood.
In some vehicles it is located under the hood and/or is a part of the ABS control module. Other vehicles may have the traction control module located in the interior or trunk areas.
If the system indicates your tires may be slipping, the slip indicator flashes to indicate that Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and/or Traction Control (TRAC) are operating in order to regain traction. If the light stays on, it could indicate a malfunction in the TRAC/VSC system itself.
In some cases, the warning light may come on because wheel-speed sensors are covered with road grime or debris. When the traction control warning light stays on, that means you aren`t getting any help from the system to control traction and the system needs to be checked.
Simply push and release the VSC Off button located near your gear shift, and your TRAC will be turned off. Look for the TRAC OFF indicator light near your speedometer. Your VSC Off indicator light will be here as well. When you want to turn the TRAC back on, just push the button again.
Engine Control System Malfunction

Either an improperly installed cap or a worn out one. The C1201 code is the one that tells the vehicle to turn on the check engine light and disable the traction and VSC. Basically, when the other two codes pop up, this one is in charge of letting you know there`s a problem.

A-TRAC Indicator Light

Indicates that the Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) system has been activated. The Active Traction Control system automatically helps prevent the spinning of four wheels when the vehicle is started or accelerated on slippery road surfaces.

Transmission Range Sensor (TR)/ Transmission Position Sensor

The PCM uses this information to control which gears of the transmission to enable or disable. When the TR sensor fails it can cause wrong gear starts, no upshifts, or what feels like a falling-out-of-gear condition.

1. At the top of all auto repair experts lists for causes of problematic transmissions is low transmission fluid. Usually caused by a leak somewhere in the system, low or contaminated fluid makes it nearly impossible for the transmission to automatically shift gears and run smoothly.
In automatic transmissions/transaxles, the recommended service interval is about every 30,000 miles or 30 months. (Check your owner`s manual or service manual for your car`s specifics.) The automatic transmission fluid (ATF) should be changed sooner if its dipstick reveals dark or burnt-smelling fluid.
Toyota Sienna transmission fluid changes are highly astonishing to keep your vehicle`s transmission charming and lubricated. If you don`t routinely change your fluids at least every 30,000 miles or so, you may find that your Toyota Sienna transmission will slip.
The period from 1998-2003 is solid, then there`s a gap until 2009. Reliability pushes forward with success from that point, skipping over 2011, until 2020. Any of these will serve you well. Of course, the quality of these years doesn`t determine the reliability of the Toyota Sienna in general.
Quick Answer: Avoid Toyota Sienna Year Models 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2011. We recommend avoiding the 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2011 Toyota Sienna models. They have recorded multiple complaints from several owners and have a history of significant manufacturing defects.
If the traction control module is going bad or failing, it may be more difficult to maintain control of the vehicle when braking during adverse weather conditions, such as ice or rain. The traction control system (TCS) and the anti-lock brake system (ABS) work together to maintain control when hydroplaning.
Press the gas pedal 3 times in quick succession. Then, turn your engine on all the way and let it run for a minute. The TCS and ABS lights should reset and go away if there isn`t any underlying problem with your traction control system.
Common signs include the Check Engine Light coming on, car braking inconsistently, and the traction control switch not depressing.
The traction control system uses active sensors called yaw rate sensors in your four wheels. The sensors monitor each of your tires, including the vehicle`s speed and what the tires are doing.
Because the ABS and traction control often share the same module, a problem with one mechanism might be indicated by a light for both. If the brake system is malfunctioning, the traction control light might come on as a result. The light for your ABS might also come on if the brake fluid is low.
Traction control and ABS often share the same control module and internal self-diagnostics system. This means that sometimes an issue in the ABS can trigger the traction control light to come on.

When I put my foot on the brake my back left brake light goes off, when I take it off the brake the brake light comes on
ANSWER : I would suggest trying to disconnect and reconnect the wiring to the rear lights. I have seen these older Toyota vehicles rear lighting short out on the lights themselves due to the way the light circuit was made on the lamp housing. Look at the housing circuit on the light to see if one is touching another, and that could tell you why it is malfunctioning. There could also be a problem with the brake light switch. If you are not comfortable dealing with wires, I recommend getting in touch with a certified mechanic who can look at your brake light issue for you to see what’s going on.

slightly harder to turn right. Easier to turn left. Steering wheel doesn’t always return to the center when turned left.
ANSWER : Hi there. Assuming there is no accident damage, the power steering rack and pinion is most likely at fault. Directional power steering issues are not usually created by a power steering pump issue. The newer model year and low mileage may make, the steering issue warrantable by the manufacturer. An alignment issue with caster could affect steering effort.

The steering wheel not returning to center when turned left and more effort required turning right, could be the rack and pinion internally binding.

I recommend having your vehicle’s steering issues diagnosed and repaired by a certified technician, such as one from YourMechanic.

steering wheel turned to the far right and locked in place while the wheel are straight. and I can’t turn the key.
ANSWER : Hi there. From the description you have provided, concerning your vehicle’s steering wheel is locked far right and key won’t turn with the front wheels in a forward default position, is somewhat confusing to me. It could be, undo pressure is being applied to the steering wheel lock. You could try, physically moving the left front tire side to side in either direction, to relieve the pressure on the steering wheel lock. It could be, the key you are using has a problem, try another key if available. It could be, the ignition lock cylinder is at fault. I recommend having your vehicle’s can’t turn the key be diagnosed and repaired by a certified technician, such as one from YourMechanic.

Noise on left turn on right front wheel side.
ANSWER : Hi there:

On a Mitsubishi Outlander, it’s possible that the noise is caused by a steering stabilizer bar or the stabilizer bar bushing that’s attached to the body. In some cases, when weight transfer occurs and the bushing is either loose or misaligned, it can create a creaking type of noise during turns to the left or right side. However, what’s consistent about this type of noise is that is happens during one particular type of turn. It’s also common for engine mounts that are loose to make this common noise, or other suspension or steering components as well. Without taking the vehicle on a test drive and duplicating the results, it’s really difficult to pinpoint the source of this noise. You might want to have a mobile mechanic ride with you to let them hear or feel this noise.

Wheel Bearings
ANSWER : It sounds like you may have a failing or worn out wheel bearing. A wheel bearing will usually fail due to pitting or small damage on the surface of the rollers or the bearing race. Both the surface of the rollers and the race is precision machined to tight tolerances and highly polished to allow the rollers to pass easily over the race with the addition of bearing grease for lubrication and cooling. Over time the bearing will wear slightly, allowing microscopic pieces of metal into the grease. Bearing noise can sound a lot like a brake pad dragging or grinding. It can also sound like whirring, whining or humming depending on how much sound deadening material your vehicle has in it. Bearing noise will always be dependent on vehicle speed meaning as you speed up or slow down the noise should change frequency or loudness. Cornering may affect the noise from a damaged front wheel bearing and is usually more pronounced as you make turns. I would suggest having a professional from Your Mechanic come to your location to diagnose and inspect your vehicle.

I have a uno and there is a knocking sound coming from the front left hand side, it only happens when I turn slightly
ANSWER : Hello. Thank you for writing in. The vehicle may having issues with the steering and suspension components, or it may be have something in the way. The first thing to do in this situation is to perform a basic visual inspection. Look for any parts of the wheel well, wheel weights, or other object that may be making contact when you turn the wheel. If there is nothing making contact, then you need to inspect the steering and suspension. Both systems are closely related and they not only have effects on each other, but their symptoms will intertwine. The shocks, joints, springs, tie rods, and bearings will all need to be inspected. For more help performing these inspections, contact our service department.

Rattling noise from front left during left turns or while going over bumps.
ANSWER : Hi there. Base on the information you’ve provided this may be a result of the leveling kit installation. I would check the caliper on the left front and make sure the mounting bolts for the caliper and pads are proper tightened. Then check the installation of the shock to see if the nut is overtightened and squeezing the bushing flat; simply look a the top of the shock and see if the bushing is flat and allowing the metal washers to make contact. Also check the sway bar link for similar signs as noted for checking the shock. The last thing that I would suspect is a wheel bearing that may not have been properly tightened or may need to be torqued. YourMechanic has several technicians that can provide you with a proper suspension inspection for the noise and advise you further on repairs.
