Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Greetings. Tahoes for that year commonly encounter this issue due to shifter cables becoming faulty overtime. The cables will usually unravel and lose its ability to move the shift lever on the transmission properly. If you need further assistance, I recommend you have a mechanic, like one from YourMechanic, inspect the shifting problem your car faces and replace any failing parts.

Transmission Fluid Low or Poor Condition – Vehicles low on transmission fluid or that are operating with worn out or contaminated fluid are likely to experience hard shift conditions. Lack of adequate lubrication within the transmission can cause several problems, including hard shifting.
RepairSmith offers upfront and competitive pricing. The average cost for Chevrolet Tahoe Transmission Rebuild is $2844.
In most cases a problem getting a vehicle into park can be traced back to an issue with the shifter cable, ignition or the shifter mechanism. This is usually a fairly easy repair but if it is not addressed it can lead to a more expensive repair.
Oftentimes, hard shifting can occur when you fail to change transmission fluid at the recommended interval. In the event that your transmission fluid gets low or dirty, your vehicle`s ability to shift could become compromised.
A clutch that fails to disengage from the flywheel causes gear shifting problems. The clutch allows the driver to change gears manually, or in an automatic car, the gears change as the vehicle accelerates. The longer a gear shifting problem occurs, the greater the overall damage will be to your car`s transmission.
These factors include if it is automatic or manual, the age of the transmission and its parts, the extent of damage, and the type of vehicle. A transmission rebuild cost averages $3,000. In comparison, a transmission replacement cost averages $6,500.
You most likely have a faulty brake light switch. While it seems like your transmission and brake lights aren`t related, they are; there`s a switch attached to the brake pedal which activates your lights when depressed, and the same switch activates a solenoid on your shifter to allow you to shift out of park.
Why Your Chevy Malibu Says `Shift to Park` Some Chevy Malibu vehicles may display a “shift to park” message on the instrument panel due to a malfunction in the transmission shift cable adjuster. This can cause the transmission to not be in the gear indicated on the gear shift lever.
Shift Linkage refers to the car cables that connect the gearshift or gear selector to the transmission. Gear shift linkage, shifting linkage and transmission shift linkage (transmission linkage) are related terms.
When the temperature drops, transmission fluids with poor cold-flow properties can thicken and cause elongated and hard shifts until the fluid has warmed up enough to flow properly. Switching to a high-quality synthetic transmission fluid will help.
You may also have intermittent problems with the transmission shift solenoid, which will cause shifting problems. This can cause hard shifting or shiftings at too low or too high RPM, for example.
The Vehicle Speed Sensor measures vehicle speed. When it fails the transmission can stop shifting or shift late and harsh. A bad VSS may also inhibit overdrive and the converter clutch.
Depending on the issue (low fluid is an easy DIY job), most transmission problems can only be properly diagnosed and repaired by a reputable mechanic. Most transmission repairs require specific tools and replacement parts to get them back up to speed.
Transmission Repairs

Often with a transmission repair, you are only fixing one specific part of the transmission. This repair can take place without having to rebuild the entire transmission. This option typically costs less than a rebuild or a replacement.

Well yes, but there`s a little more to it than that. First, check your owner`s manual for the exact specifications of your classic car`s transmission. The VIN plate on some classic cars may also give you the model of transmission installed in your classic car, or at the very least, the transaxle model.
The safest Tahoe year models to purchase are 1995 – 1998, 2000, 2006, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2017 – 2020. There`s very little to worry about with all of these year models, as all have garnered very few complaints over the years.
5.3-liter V8 with Dynamic Fuel Management.

This motor, as mentioned, is paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Most vehicles built on or after 6-7-2021 equipped with a V-8 engine and 10-speed automatic transmission are not equipped with Automatic Stop/Start and its content.
One of the more common Chevy Tahoe transmission problems is the loss of 3rd and/or 4th gears. This occurs because the clutch discs inside the 4L60E 3-4 clutch pack have a tendency to wear out and fail prematurely.
The cause may be low engine oil or a faulty Intake CMP actuator causing a performance problem with the actuator. Both of these codes cause a computer strategy to raise line pressure causing the shifts to be harsh.

I got sound when I shift to 3rd gear and it’s get hard to put shift to second gear when car is in 3rd gear.
ANSWER : Hello. It sounds as though the synchronizers in the transmission, which are used to adjust transmission internal gear speed when upshifting or downshifting are possibly worn out or you are shifting a bit too fast. It is also possible that the clutch is not releasing fully when you press the clutch pedal. In some conditions, utilizing synthetic gear oil in the transmission can help the quality of gear shifting. If the clutch is not fully releasing an inspection of the clutch hydraulics is a good idea. I would recommend having an inspection of the hard shift completed by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose this problem, give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost for repairs.
