Hello. There may very well be an air pocket left in your line that needs to be bled out. One efficient way to tell if there’s air in your system is pressing the brake pedal with the engine running, the brake pedal should only go down 30 to 40% of the way. If it goes down anymore you likely have air in your line. I suggest that you use the bleeding procedure we have here https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/-how-to-bleed-car-brakes-by-jerel-lawrence to help you properly bleed your brakes. Bleeding the brakes usually requires beginning bleeding at the wheel farthest away from the master cylinder, then bleed the second farthest away and so on. There’s likely air trapped in your brake lines that’s causing master cylinder to have a pressure imbalance inside of it . Oftentimes this pressure imbalance will create a suction in your brake system and cause your brakes to self engage. So that could also be why your parking brake light is lit. You also need to have your parking brake shoes adjusted since the rotors were installed. Improperly adjusted shoes could cause the parking brake light to set as well as an improperly adjusted parking brake cable. Step 9 in this article can help you adjust the shoes https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-replace-rear-car-brake-shoes-by-mia-bevacqua . How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

Typically, your brake system warning light being on means your parking brake is engaged, but if you`re still seeing the red (or orange) warning on your dash while the parking brake is disengaged, you will need to get your brakes inspected as soon as possible.
Bad Switch: One common reason for the Parking Brake light to stay on is a failing or failed switch. This can be checked easily by jiggling the handle after it is down. If the light turns off (or turns off and then back on), the switch is the most likely culprit and will need to be replaced.
Press and hold the EPB switch until the brake warning light on the instrument panel starts to flash. Continue to hold the switch until the flash goes off. 4. Release the switch and press it again, the parking brake should now be reset.
Emergency brakes vary by vehicle, but when a conventional lever or pedal E-brake is not released entirely, the brake warning light can come on. Some modern vehicles will beep if you are driving with the emergency brake engaged. To turn off the light, just fully release the E-brake.
The emergency brake name comes from the brake`s ability to stop the car if the regular hydraulic brakes totally fail. Parking brakes are completely mechanical and use only cables and levers to operate.
If it remains lit after the parking brake is released or if it turns on and off intermittently while you`re driving, it means you need to add brake fluid. If you check the fluid, add as needed and the light still doesn`t turn off, you`ll need to have the brake system inspected.
The pump AND the AutoPark lite should both run together, and shut off together at the end of the 5 (or so) seconds. On most Chev/Workhorse chassis, the fuse panel which holds the AutoPark fuse, will be located to the left of the steering column, under the dash and near your left knee.
On some vehicles, emergency and turn signal bulbs are the same as those used for the brake lights. If you turn on your emergency flashers or turn signals, and the bulbs don`t light up. There is a good chance that bulb is not working. At night, back up close to a wall and hit the brakes.
Brake lights light up when you hit brakes to signal the drivers behind you to stop. Parking lights are located at the front and back of your vehicles; they are white or amber in the front and red on the back.
The anti-lock function will stop working properly, which may increase the distance it takes to safely stop your vehicle. The rear tires will lock, which will increase vehicle swing on turns and may make your vehicle more difficult to control.
Faulty Switch: One common reason for the Parking Brake light to stay on is a failing or failed switch. This can be checked easily by moving the handle to and fro after it is down. If the light turns off (or turns off and then back on), the switch is the most likely culprit and will need to be replaced.
If allowed to remain engaged for too long, driving with the parking brake on can cause premature wear of brake components and could even lead to damage to the wheel bearing or a catastrophic failure of parts near or associated with the braking system.
The e-brake can also freeze in place. If the weather is cold and wet, it is very likely that your e-brake has simply frozen in place. This can be resolved by turning on your vehicle and letting it warm up. Another reason your emergency brake gets stuck is pulling it too hard.

Gear stuck on park. Brake lights dont turn on. Brake light switch has been changed the problem still remains.
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. The vehicle is likely having a connection issue somewhere around the switch. Since you have a voltmeter or test light, you will want to test for power leading up to the fuses, and then after the fuses. If you have power when pressing the light after the fuse (this means the power is making it through the fuse), continue to trace that voltage until you find where it stops. This voltage drop is most likely going to be at an electrical connection or terminal, a broken or frayed wire, a faulty switch, or a bad ground connection. Currently the vehicle is in a safety mode, and tracking down the cause of the brake light switch issue needs to be the main focus. For more help resolving the issue, contact our service department to schedule an appointment.

Changed brake master cylinder, bled 10 times, and the pedal is soft The rear brakes are not locked but close. Truck now running rough.
ANSWER : You will have to bleed the brakes from the farthest location all the way to the master cylinder. There is still air in the lines causing the issue. Check the vibrations on the vehicle to see if the engine mounts are damaged or if the brakes are not releasing causing the engine to run harder than normal to overcome the braking force. If you need further assistance with your vehicle’s brake system, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

When I put my foot on the brake my back left brake light goes off, when I take it off the brake the brake light comes on
ANSWER : I would suggest trying to disconnect and reconnect the wiring to the rear lights. I have seen these older Toyota vehicles rear lighting short out on the lights themselves due to the way the light circuit was made on the lamp housing. Look at the housing circuit on the light to see if one is touching another, and that could tell you why it is malfunctioning. There could also be a problem with the brake light switch. If you are not comfortable dealing with wires, I recommend getting in touch with a certified mechanic who can look at your brake light issue for you to see what’s going on.

EPC light on 2004 Jetta. Code said brake switch faulty, but brakes lights worked. Replaced brake switch, now no brake lights.
ANSWER : Hi there. The first thing that pops in my mind beyond of what you have listed is perhaps the electrical harness attached to the brake switch. Perhaps the harness itself is damaged or you have an exposed wire, loose ground wire somewhere. You might want to have a professional mobile mechanic come to your location and complete a brake lights not working inspection to help you diagnose this issue.

Uneven brake rotor wear
ANSWER : Hello. I tried to view the pictures but the link seems to be broken. It sounds like you have two different problems reading the description of the problem. The first is the brake pads being too tight and binding in the caliper bracket. This is most likely caused from the pad ends are not machined smooth and do not slide into the caliper bracket smooth. This will cause them to bind and cause low brake application or will keep the brakes partly applied wearing them down quickly. The other possible problem is the caliper may be binding on the slides or the piston is binding. If you would like precise advise on exactly what needs repair, have a certified professional diagnose the brake system in person and follow through with correct repairs.

Is it normal for the brakes to get hot or smell hot after the pads and rotors are changed on the rear brakes?
ANSWER : Hi, thanks for writing in. I’d be happy to provide my insight.

From the description of your 2010 Pontiac G6 braking issue, there are a few likely causes. If the piston in the caliper did not move freely than this will allow the brake pad to drag on the rotor. When the pad drags it can overheat the rear brakes and cause them to fail. The caliper will need to be inspected before the vehicle is driven more.

If you would like help getting these inspected, consider having an expert automotive technician from YourMechanic come to your home or office to inspect and diagnose these brake problems for you, and make or suggest any repairs as needed.

Rear brake job
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. These situations are understandably questionable. The service providers at a lot of common oil changing and tire repair centers will quote you for a variety of things that can be updated. This does not always mean you are in dire need for more repairs. If braking seems to be harder, spongy, or takes longer, then you have reason to be concerned. Otherwise, you should check the amount of brake pad material left on the calipers. This can be visually inspected without too much trouble. Remove the wheel and physically measure the amount left, compare them to your vehicle specifications. It is a little early to worry about brake fluid or the rotors. However if the brake fluid is low, the rotors are warped from a hard stop, or there are obvious issues you should look into the system further. Only further inspection will confirm or deny the recommendations. For a second inspection, contact our service department to schedule an appointment.
