My car has 60,500 miles on it, and I started having problems going it into 1st gear. When I slightly released the clutch a tiny bit and sometimes when I put it into 4th gear it wouldn’t go into gear. But I didn’t worry about it. And it made a grating sound, too. This happened a few times a week at the most, and it didn’t get any worse. ANSWER : Hello. Your clutch hydraulics have possibly failed as you suspected. Given the suddenness of the failure, however, it is possible that something as simple as the clutch linkage above your foot has failed in some simple fashion, or possibly the clutch linkage in the clutch area itself (if there is no fluid leakage). If there is fluid leakage under the engine, quite likely the clutch slave cylinder has failed, which requires removal of the engine or the transmission to fix.
