My car stopped on the highway said low oil pressure took it to a shop they change the sensor still have the same problem

Took to the shop 3 times car keeps dying they change oil pressure sensor said they cleaned some oil lines and still don't know what's the problem not really sure what to do from here can you please help. The car will run for a second then I push the gas and it stops like it's not getting no fuel or something. Then it will completely stop running and turning on at all I will have to get it towed to the shop they change the pressure sensor again still having the same problem please help

My car has 190000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

I believe you have 2 problems here. The fundamental problem is that you may REALLY have low oil pressure, since replacing the oil pressure sending unit has not changed the "low oil pressure" indicator. I would get a dial-type pressure gauge hooked up to the engine to see what oil pressure (in psi) you have both cold and hot – especially hot idle. Given your mileage, you may have worn crankshaft and connecting rod bearings, clogged oil pump pickup, worn oil pump, or other high mileage related issues which may require a rebuild of your engine.

The oil pressure sending unit does report "low pressure" to the engine control unit, which in turn shuts down the fuel pump (to protect the engine). You can jumper the oil pressure switch to run the fuel pump to get it to your service center. I would recommend having a Oil Pressure Light is ON Inspection completed by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who can come to your location, and diagnose this problem, get an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

The oil level dropping below the minimum dipstick line is one of the most common causes of low oil pressure. This can happen at any time, even if you`ve recently had an oil change. Over time, engines burn oil more quickly. This is due to piston rings wearing, seals leaking, and so on.
The oil pressure sensor will not shut the vehicle off, it can prevent the vehicle from starting if low oil pressure is detected though. If the car shut off and has no oil in the pan, then it should not be started or driven until it has been inspected. Low oil pressure and level can cause engine failure.
What the P0523 code means. This code means that the Powertrain Control Module, or PCM, finds that the engine oil pressure sender/sensor is too high. The cause could be mechanical or electrical. Most of the time, the issues fall into the electrical category.
When you first start the vehicle up, this light comes on as it does a system check and momentarily detects engine oil pressure. As the engine RPM`s increase oil pressure increases, thereby signaling to the oil pressure sensor that oil pressure has risen to an appropriate level which then causes the light to go off.
Best Answer. Warmed up oil pressure would idle at like 20, 25 lbs, up to 40-60 lbs. when rpms are up. If you think you have a oil pressure issue, first take out the oil pressure sending unit.
A faulty oil pressure sensor can falsely trigger a low oil pressure condition, which turns on the oil light. If the oil pressure sending unit is damaged, it can also cause the oil pressure light to blink on and off.
Sometimes if oil pressure sensor doesn`t work properly, as a result, it gives a false reading and usually shows low engine oil levels. This could cause worry to the driver because low engine oil level can cause serious and permanent damage to the engine of your vehicle if the warning is true.
Code P0521 is a generic OBDII fault code that indicates an oil pressure issue or problems with your oil pressure sensor.
If the engine oil light still comes on and makes the engine stall out with a strange noise, then the oil pump has failed or the oil pump pick up tube has become clogged and will not pick up any oil. To verify this, you would need hook up an oil pressure gauge to a port on the engine near the oil filter.
The ideal oil pressure varies depending on the car brand and model, but generally, the ideal oil pressure is between 25-65 PSI.
2003 GMC Sierra SLE – Oil pressure reaches upwards of 60 PSI when engine is running and cold. Comes down slightly (40-45) when warm.
Low engine oil is an indicator that there is a problem with the engine. If the level gets low, it can prevent proper lubrication of critical components inside the engine and cause starting problems, engine failure, and damage to critical components.
The oil pressure switch is installed in the oil circuit of the engine. It monitors the oil pressure and turns off or on a warning light or controls an oil pressure indicator. The oil pressure switch is normally closed. When the ignition is switched on, the oil pressure warning light illuminates.
The oil pressure system has an electronic control unit that collects data from the sensor and sends it to the gauge. If there is a significantly low oil pressure level, the system will trigger the oil pressure warning light.
An oil pressure switch is a protection device for an engine. Its a type of oil pressure sensor. As the name suggests the oil pressure switch is a mechanical device that has a switch inside.
When engine oil pressure drops, friction between different parts increases. This results in a steep decline in engine performance. Watch out for common signs of decreased engine performance such as a reduction in fuel economy, loss of power, and engine stalling. Warning light on the instrument panel turns on.
There are three major causes for a stalled engine: A lack of fuel, a lack of air flow and improper ignition. Running out of fuel is one of the most common causes of engine stalling, but dirty fuel injectors or a plugged fuel filter can also be the culprit. Your engine needs air to run properly as well.
BYPASSING THE PRESSURE SWITCH IS NOT A REPAIR

It is simply an attempt to troubleshoot the furnace by isolating what might be causing the problem. Any attempt to bypass the system should only be done by an HVAC technician with the proper training and test equipment.

A faulty oil pressure sensor or oil pressure switch can falsely signal a low oil pressure condition, causing the oil pressure warning light to turn on.
An oil pressure sensor is a simple device that activates a warning light on your dash when your engine`s oil pressure is not in line with set levels. This is a very simple device made up of a spring-loaded switch and a diaphragm. The diaphragm receives oil and is designed to stay open at a set pressure level.
There is not a pre-defined OBDII “verb” for oil pressure so it`s not going to show up on a generic ODBII reader. But a manufacturer-specific OBDII device may display that if it`s available. You can “sniff” the bus and see if you can locate something that looks like oil pressure for your specific car.
In modern trucks and buses, oil pressure sensors monitor the oil pressure in the motor oil and transmission oil circuit. The measured pressures are recorded in real time in the control unit of the vehicle, evaluated and used to optimise engine parameters.
If your oil light comes on while you`re driving, you need to stop right away and shut the engine off. If you`ve run out of oil, your engine may seize up and refuse to turn over. If the car abruptly stops while you`re driving, you might be in trouble.
When your engine oil is running low, it stops lubricating the engine components. When these parts are no longer well-oiled, they cause loud clunking, knocking, and grinding sounds. This can cause your rods to break, which will give off the knocking sound from underneath the hood of your vehicle.

lost all oil pressure, replaced the oil pump, low oil sensor, oil pressure sensor, oil pan gasket,
ANSWER : The fuel pump will not stay on if you loose oil pressure. This is why it is shutting off. The loss of oil pressure may be from bad crankshaft bearings or camshaft bearings. The engine oil pan should be removed and the oil pump needs to be checked to ensure that you put in the pick up tube seal to the pump and connected the pump to the block. Then remove at least one main bearing cap and inspect the bearings for excessive wear and crankshaft damage. If you need some help with this, consider YourMechanic, as a certified technician can help diagnose the issue with your oil pressure firsthand and help you fix it accordingly.

Low oil pressure light comes on when idle. Check engine light is on as well. Both came on after getting an oil change 3 days ago.
ANSWER : It is possible that they put in the wrong viscosity oil. In rare instances, a defective filter will also cause low pressure. If there is too much oil, it will aerate and cause low pressure. Be sure the oil level is really not above "max". The P2187 code will appear if the oil fill cap is not tight but it will also appear due to a myriad of causes because that code only "generally" identifies a lean running condition. Consequently, numerous parts would have to be tested including the O2 sensor, gas cap seal, manifold air leaks, any vacuum leak anywhere including PCV and EVAP systems, exhaust leaks, and fuel system faults such as failing fuel pump, clogged filter and more. Since the car has relatively low mileage, you would not expect a failed oil pump, although the pressure sensor (or switch) could be bad. However, the occurrence of the oil pressure warning light is quite coincidental to the oil change, thus I would suggest bringing the car back and asking them to redo with a new filter and double check the viscosity of the new oil that they use. If the problem persists after that, you will have to test actual operating oil pressure (at idle for instance) as well as the oil pressure switch. Finally, if the oil pressure warning light comes on continuously, unless the warning circuit itself is malfunctioning, that means the oil pressure is too low to operate the engine without damaging it. Anytime the light comes on for more than literally an instant, you should shut down the car and thus an issue like this obviously has to be repaired.

If you’d like, a YourMechanic certified mechanic can come to your home or place of business to inspect the vehicle and perform an oil pressure light is on inspection to diagnose the vehicle and suggest potential repairs.

My car has low oil pressure. I’ve already changed the oil pressure sensor 3 times.
ANSWER : If you have replaced the sensor three times and it did not fix the problem, then you may have problems with the oil pressure being low at idle due to wear in the engine bearings. The reason it would be fine sometimes and not others may be due to engine load and temperature changes. Have the oil pressure tested at the sensor port to see if it is low and needs engine repairs.

I recommend having a certified mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, come to your location to perform an inspection to determine why the Oil Pressure Light is on.

My car is leaking oil i got an oil change for it last month but it is still leaking oil what will cause my car to leak oil ?
ANSWER : Most older cars have oil leaks. Sealing technology has just not kept up with mechanical improvements to engines so much so that leaks often kill engines rather than mechanical problems. So, it is not unexpected at all to have an, indeed many, oil leaks on a 23 year old car. Oil leaks vary hugely in terms of severity and priority of repair. Oil leaking onto a hot engine manifold is the worst case (the oil can start a fire; at best, you are left breathing oil fumes in the cabin, as the oil burns off of the manifold) while de minimus seepage of oil at the oil drain plug or oil pan gasket, while annoying and messy, if limited enough is not an emergency. Some leaks are easy to repair, while others literally require the engine to be removed just to get physical access to all the leak points. In your circumstance, if you smell burning oil, oil is probably leaking onto a hot engine part such as the exhaust manifold. A certified Mechanic, dispatched by YourMechanic right to your location, can perform an oil leak diagnostic and then let you know of your repair options and costs.

As far as the check engine light, that is not related to the oil leak(s). If you request a check engine light diagnostic, a certified mechanic from YourMechanic would use a code scanner to retrieve the specific diagnostic trouble code(s) from your car’s PCM that have caused the check engine light to illuminate. Using those codes, the appropriate individual vehicle components or sub-systems (often a sensor, circuit, and the like) are then carefully tested, based on specifications set forth in your car’s Factory Service Manual, to pinpoint the cause of the fault or the reason why the check engine light has illuminated. Once the faulty part or component is identified, it is explained to your satisfaction and the mechanic will let you know of the cost to repair. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

Fit a modified AUDI TT oil pump to the car, replaced the oil pressure sensor, but oil pressure light still on! 2005 Volkswagon
ANSWER : Hello – I would first put a real oil pressure gauge on the port for the oil pressure switch and see what real pressure looks like before driving it. Low oil pressure light switches trigger at only about 5 psi, so if the switch/gauge are working correctly, you’ve got real problems (worn connecting rod and crankshaft main bearings most likely) with this engine. I recommend a low oil pressure inspection performed by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose this problem, and give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.

think i put wrong oil in car went few miles lose power car dies oil in spark plugs still starts low oil blinking light before die.
ANSWER : Hello. If you put too thick of an oil in the car, then you may have damaged the engine bearings but this should not have caused oil to get in to the spark plugs unless the oil got into the intake of the engine or one of the pistons rings broke. If you ran it without oil and then tried to put oil in thinking it would be okay after that, then you were not that lucky and broke or damaged all of the rings on the pistons. If you would like to have this looked over, a certified professional from YourMechanic can come to your car’s location to inspect the stalling issue and go over all of the relevant systems for a better diagnosis.

Stop car check oil warning
ANSWER : This light will usually come on when one of two things are happening. Either the motor is in fact low on oil or the oil pressure sending unit is not working properly and may be producing a faulty reading. I would recommend first, to check the actual oil level in the motor by using the dipstick. Be sure the oil level reaches the "full" mark. If this registers as "full" then you likely have a faulty oil pressure sending unit. I would recommend having an expert from YourMechanic come to your location to take a look at your vehicle to determine what may be causing your low oil pressure light to come on.
