Dodge`s 2.4 L four-cylinder engine fits into a 2000 to 05 Eclipse. Dodge`s 3.0 L six-cylinder engine can fit into a 2001 to 03 Eclipse.
So, yes, you can take an engine out of an automatic model of your car and put it into your manual transmission car, providing the engines are the same model.
You could have someone completely replace the transmission, wiring harness, computer and all associated mounts and hardware to a more traditional automatic or manual transmission, but this would require quite a bit of custom work and would VERY quickly exceed the value of the car.
Depending on the vehicle, the cost of swapping a manual transmission can range from $1,000 to $5,000. Find out if there are any swap opportunities available for the specific vehicle you are looking to do the transmission swap on.
The high-end GT model comes equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 engine making 205 horsepower that offers split-second responsiveness and high-rpm refinement. The turbo engine has been dropped in favor of the more refined V6. Regardless of which engine is selected, a five-speed manual transmission is standard on the Eclipse.
Regardless of what mode the shifter is in, the Eclipse GT flies. Motor Trend magazine clocked a 6.9-second 0-to-60 mph time – which is more than enough performance for nonrace-car drivers.
It`s a common myth that manual cars are faster than automatic ones, but that isn`t the case. High-speed vehicles are available in both transmission types, and the transmission isn`t the most important factor in determining top speed.
CVTS OFFER A SMOOTHER RIDE

Because there is no real shift from one gear to another, this transmission offers a much smoother ride than either an automatic or manual transmission. Because the RPM is always relatively steady, they can also get better gas mileage.

In a face off between two drivers of equal capabilities and skill driving identical vehicles with identical spec engines the CVT, if it`s optimized properly, should allow for faster acceleration than a manual gearbox …or a multi-speed automatic. The issue is how the CVT`s control computer is optimized.
Powertrain. The basic driveline layout of the Eclipse is a transverse-mounted 4-cylinder Chrysler 420A, Mitsubishi 4G64, or 4G63 engine. The Mitsubishi motors are mounted in the same orientation as the first generation cars.

Can the back axle assembly from and 06 Mitsubishi Eclipse go on an 02 Mitsubishi Eclipse
ANSWER : Based on the interchange data that is published at Car-Part.com, the axle used for the 2006 model year is not a direct interchange for 2002. Of course, it is always possible to modify parts but that is burdensome and also risky. There are quite a few model year 2002 axle assemblies for your make and model listed for sale at Car-part.com (just use the search function) so your best bet really is to simply buy the part that corresponds to your model year and that will of course save you from experiencing any fitment problems. There is automatic transmission fluid in a manual transmission. Is it okay to leave or do I need manual transmission fluid?
ANSWER : This would depend on what the manufacturer recommends. Many manual transmissions do take automatic transmission fluid. If your transmission has ATF in it, it is very likely that it is supposed to have that in there. If not, it is likely that the transmission would not function properly with the wrong fluid. Many manual transmissions will also take engine oil as a lubricant. The best way to know for sure is to check your owner’s manual or call your local General Motors dealership to inquire.

How can I swap a Mitsubishi Eclipse 2000 motor into a Mitsubishi Diamonte 2002
ANSWER : Hi there. The only way that this might work is if the engine from the Eclipse is the same exact size, has the same fuel and ignition system components. However, I believe there are fuel and ignition differences between these two vehicles; so it’s likely that you would have some compatibility problems. However, we don’t offer this type of service, so I would refer you to consult with an engine swap specialist located near you.

Gear shift slips over to Manual Transmission without touching. I have to hold it to keep it in Automatic.
ANSWER : Hi there. All automatic transmissions require transmission fluid for them to work. In your engine compartment by the right side next to the radiator area, there is a box in front of the air filter housing. Remove that box and below the air filter housing you will see the dipstick to the transmission. For the transmission not staying in automatic mode and conveying over to the manual mode only, the shifter has either broke inside or the circuitry has a short in the shifter housing. I recommend replacing the shifter assembly with a new one. If you need further assistance with your shifter not selecting automatic mode, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

My 2000 eclipse
ANSWER : Your existing PCM and electronic transmission controls are not compatible with a manual transmission. Consequently, if you desire to convert the vehicle to manual operation, you will have to obtain the donor vehicle’s electrical system and carry that over to your existing vehicle. Also, if you change the transmission, the change in weight affects the suspension and alignment settings. You will be better off if you diagnose and repair what you have. If you desire to go that route, please simply request a diagnostic such as a rough running diagnostic and the responding certified mechanic will travel right to your location and get the issues you are having diagnosed and resolved for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic.

Automatic to Standard conversion
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. A swap like this can be complicated if you are not used to doing it yourself. This is something you may want to seek help with. The vehicle with the manual transmission has all of the major components that you will need. You may end up needing a separate wiring harness to connect the computer to the new transmission, but that will depend on the condition of the existing ones. Beyond the obvious swap, you also need to take into account you will have an extra pedal, and you will need to modify your vehicle to install that pedal. How much to replace an automatic transmission to a manual
ANSWER : The PCM and TCM that you presently have are incompatible with a manual transmission. The PCM hardware and some engine controls, particularly relating to idle speed and electronic "dashpot", would be different too. The only way you could reliably do such a swap is if you changed out the vehicle’s electrical system, include the wiring harness to the transmission and engine, and even that wouldn’t be a guarantee of success if your vehicle also has a body control module (i.e., that would have to be changed out as well). Your only practical option is to have the existing transmission re-built or install a re-manufactured one. Even going that route, you have to be extremely careful and vigilant that you get an EXACT replacement, in every respect, because even minor year to year differences in electronic controls could render the unit unusable. In some locales, certified Mechanics from YourMechanic will perform engine and transmission replacements, so please inquire if you simply want to repair what you have. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.
