Miss on cylinder 1

Service engine light comes on and my mechanic gets cylinder 1 misfire code on his diagnostic. He's replaced the wire and coil set,new plugs ,and a new fuel injector on cylinder 1.The miss seems worse at startup,as the engine reaches operating temperature it is still there but not as prominent.

My car has 164000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hey. You may have excessive carbon build up on the intake valves or a broken valve spring or a sticking valve. Have the combustion chambers cleaned using Ford combustion chamber cleaner and spray or have it sucked into the intake to clean the carbon off of the valves. If you see this improve the problem then you may have to have it done several times to get all the carbon off of the valves. If it does not improve, then have the compression checked to see if the cylinder has a compression problem and a valve spring may be broken. If you would like to have this checked, a qualified pro from YourMechanic can come to your car’s location to diagnose the misfire issue.

What causes cylinder 1 to misfire? Various factors, including defective spark plugs and insufficient engine compression, can cause misfires.
Common reasons for this to happen: Faulty spark plugs or wires. Faulty ignition coil. Broken piston rings.
If an oxygen sensor or mass airflow sensor is failing, it could give incorrect data to your engine`s computer, causing the misfire. When a vacuum line is broken, it can cause a fuel-injected motor to misfire.
An engine misfire can be caused by bad spark plugs or imbalanced air/fuel mixture. Driving with a misfire isn`t safe and can damage your engine.
The most common causes of misfires are worn, improperly installed, and mishandled spark plugs, malfunctioning ignition coils, carbon tracking, faulty spark plug wires and vacuum leaks.
Vacuum leaks, especially those that are confined to one cylinder, will cause the engine to idle unevenly and possibly misfire. This is because the vacuum leak allows additional air to reach the affected cylinder, diluting its air/fuel mixture.
The most common causes of misfires are worn, improperly installed, and mishandled spark plugs, malfunctioning ignition coils, carbon tracking, faulty spark plug wires and vacuum leaks.
What Does Ford Taurus Code P0301 Mean? Ford Taurus P0301 definition: Cylinder 1 misfire detected. Issue Severity: SEVERE – Stop driving immediately. Repair Urgency: Fix this code immediately (same-day if possible) to avoid ignition failure, catalytic converter damage, and dangerous conditions.
What the P0351 code means. The P0351 DTC is seen when the ignition coil A primary or secondary circuit has a malfunction. The engine control module is looking for specific signals from the ignition coil A and when these signals are not seen the ECU sets the Check Engine Light.
The P0301 code means that cylinder 1 has a misfire and isn`t burning fuel properly. Bearing in mind that you need air, fuel and spark for combustion, the cause of a P0301 code could come from a few different sources. In any event, a P0301 code is serious and shouldn`t be put off.
The frontmost cylinder is usually #1, however there are two common approaches: Numbering the cylinders in each bank sequentially (e.g. 1-2-3-4 along the left bank and 5-6-7-8 along the right bank).

ANSWER : Hello there, thank you for asking about your 2007 Ford F-150. The problem is most likely with the ignition coils misfiring. I would recommend having a technician from YourMechanic come to your home or office to inspect your misfiring problem and replace the ignition coils.

Miss fire cylinder #1, bank 1 sensor 2 codes
ANSWER : Hi there. Before going after a possible catalytic converter or oxygen sensor bank(1) sensor(2), the misfire needs to be corrected. The check engine light flashing would be ECM (engine control module)/computer recognizing the misfire. The spark plug and spark plug wire appearing okay, does not necessarily mean they are okay. The fuel injector could be at fault. Resistance value tests, using an ohmmeter could help isolate the problem. Comparing the resistance value with known good cylinders would give you an idea, what you should expect to see. Proper diagnoses needs to be performed to avoid unnecessary repairs. I recommend having your vehicle’s #1 cylinder misfire be diagnosed and repaired by a certified technician, such as one from YourMechanic.

Bank 1 too lean, cylinder 1 misfire.
ANSWER : Hi there. There are several possible sources that trigger these two codes including a faulty fuel pressure regulator, weak fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, faulty powertrain control module, vacuum leak, faulty injector(s), faulty oxygen sensor(s) and a faulty mass air flow sensor. You might to have a professional mechanic complete an engine is running rough inspection at your location to pinpoint the source of this issue.

Bank 1 running to rich and injector 1 contribution fault Intermittent.
ANSWER : Hi and thanks for contacting YourMechanic. What you are experiencing is a misfire detected in cylinder 1 and a random misfire in cylinder 3. This could be caused by either the fuel injectors not firing, the spark plugs fouling out, or a possible blow by ring issue. What I recommend to do is check the injectors to see if they are working. With the engine running, you could remove the injector harness to the injector and see if the engine drops in RPM. If the engine drops in RPM, then the injector is working. If the engine stays the same, then the injector is not working.

With the engine off, you could remove the spark plugs from cylinder 1 and cylinder 3 and switch them with another cylinder. This will make the symptom change to other cylinders if the spark plugs are causing the problem.

If the injectors are working fine and the spark plugs are switched and your engine still is having trouble, then you would need to do a compression test. Check the compression on the first puff and then max out the puff. The pressure indicated on the first puff needs to be half or more of the final puff. If it is less than half, then the rings are probably worn. If all the problems are tested and checks out okay, then I would suggest having a professional, like one from YourMechanic, diagnose the misfiring issue properly so that this issue can be resolved.

No compression cylinder 1, car shakes/vibrates and runs rough, decreased gas mileage.
ANSWER : Yes, absolutely, rebuild or replace the engine. The vehicle itself is a recent model year so your least cost option will be to repair what you have. And, you’re right, "re-sale value" is irrelevant in the calculation (good for you!). That is, the "cost to compare" in a situation like yours is what it will cost to get your vehicle running versus the cost of buying ANOTHER car. Least cost option, even with engine swap, is usually to simply repair what you already own. Zero compression in one cylinder could be as simple as a stuck valve, however, the low values in the other cylinders mean the rings are likely worn beyond good service, too. You can completely rebuild what you have (always a good option), buy a used engine (risky and requires lots of due diligence and precautions, but still possible), or buy a crate engine (most costly option). As you wend your way through this, we are here to help you. Some select mechanics in certain YourMechanic service areas will do engine swaps. Please simply inquire as to that option and we will help you as best as we can.

Misfire on cylinder one
ANSWER : A misfire to cylinder 1 may be a fuel pressure regulator sensor problem but it is most likely due to a clogged injector on number one. You will need to scan and view data to see if fuel pressure sensor is needing replacement first. Then have the injectors cleansed to see if the codes go away.

I’d suggest you get this looked at by a qualified technician who can perform these checks to diagnose your Check Engine Light and make the appropriate repairs to your vehicle.
