My car is very old. I know I need to get the engine completely fixed. It honestly has been sitting at home while I have been at college. Oil is good. Transmission fluid is good. There is leaking..lots of it just foward of my oil pan. Smells kind of like gas. Also there is a faint scraping sound. Not wining not knocking. It's like metal scraping in a circle motion around another metal?
My car has an automatic transmission.

Since its launch for the 2022 model year, the Ford Maverick has easily been one of the most sought-after new vehicles on the planet – which is both a good and bad thing in some regards.
Ford Maverick Specs

The manual had a 94mph top speed, 19.5 second ¼ mile, 14.1second acceleration, 100hp, and 156 lb-ft torque.

Rather than starting with the Bronco Sport`s turbocharged three-cylinder engine as standard, Ford has gone hybrid with the Maverick`s base powertrain. All trims come standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder assisted by an electric motor for a combined 191 horsepower.
The Maverick was launched much as the Mustang was with very limited options and two available engines – the standard 170-cubic-inch Falcon-based inline six or a larger 200-cid seven-main-bearing six-cylinder with either a three-on-the-column or an optional SelectShift three-speed automatic transmission.
This forgotten relic is an awesome muscle car masterpiece from the late 1970s. The Ford Maverick has been getting much attention lately because Ford resurrected the name for a truck model. However, today we aim to please the true automotive enthusiasts who remember the Maverick`s original state, a muscle car.
It`s probably one of the top-selling vehicle debuts in Ford`s history, barring the iconic Ford Mustang and Ford Transit van. According to Motor Biscuit, the 2022 Ford Maverick became an instant best-seller upon its debut, accounting for about 73% of U.S. vehicle sales in 2022.
Ford Maverick models. The 2023 Ford Maverick is a compact crew-cab pickup that`s available in three main trim levels: XL, XLT and Lariat. Each trim comes standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a hybrid system to produce a combined 191 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque.
The Maverick is manufactured at Ford`s Hermosillo Assembly in Mexico alongside the Bronco Sport for both the North and South American auto markets. Production began on September 2, 2021. In January 2022, Ford suspended customer orders due to a backlog in vehicle production.
While a few examples of modded Mavericks we`ve seen so far touch on the low and slow theme, Ivan Gonzalez decided that he wanted low and… fast. His first-year (2022) all-wheel-drive Maverick was the first to be recognized to hit a 12-second quarter mile time.
Multiplying Mach 10.2 by the speed of sound (at sea level) means Maverick was traveling roughly 7,826 mph.
You could get the Maverick with a V8 from the factory, but nearly all of them got 200- or 250-cubic-inch sixes.
Buyers had the option of the 105-hp, 170-cid six or the larger 200-cid six-cylinder with 120 hp. Transmission choices were automatic or three-speed. The Maverick gained a four-door sibling in 1971 and a sporty “Grabber” version with a 210-hp, 302-cid V-8. Also available was a 145-hp, 250-cid six-cylinder engine.
Under the hood is a very respectable 302 ci V8 engine pushing out a potent 138 horsepower and 246 ft/lbs of torque which was pretty good for the time.

Car sounds like golf cart when revving and braking; also leaking fluid; sound fades as car warms up
ANSWER : Hello,
There are a number of things that could make an engine noisy when starting up. Depending on the specific type of sound you are referring to, this will determine how to properly diagnose. If there is a bit of a hissing sound, this may be a sign of a vacuum leak. If this is more of a shrieking sound, this may be a sign of a worn out or out of adjustment serpentine belt. If there is a bit of a howling or growling sound, this may be a sign of a worn out or low on fluid power steering pump. A rattling or pinging sound may be caused by an ignition problem. An engine can ping (or knock) due to an improper combustion process. A "spark knock" is the result of combustion occurring too early. Early combustion can occur from carbon buildup inside the combustion chamber, a lean air/fuel mixture, and advanced ignition timing (spark plug firing too soon). A clattering type sound may be a result of improper lubrication in the valve train which could be a more serious problem and should be addressed as soon as possible. I would suggest having an expert from YourMechanic come to your location to diagnose and inspect your vehicle to ensure everything is in proper working order.

I put the wrong key in my car and a few weeks later my car just shut down and it will not start I believe it’s the computer but…
ANSWER : Hi there. What had happened is the wrong key set the security to the vehicle. This is to prevent the vehicle from starting with the wrong keys. Try removing the battery cables (+) and (-) for 13 minutes. During that time, put the original key in the ignition and turn it on. Activate everything in the car even though there is no power. Then remove the key and hook up the battery cables. The computer should have reset and reset the security. If the security is still being tripped, then I recommend seeking out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you

My car trembles or idles hard when I’m at a temporary stop. It feels like the car wants to move before I’m ready.
ANSWER : This problem may be related to a dirty or faulty idle air control valve. This valve is a unit that reads the air intake as it is mixed with fuel, prior to being injected into the motor. The computer then uses this information to make fueling adjustments.

When the idle air control valve is not working properly, this may cause the motor to be over-fueled or under-fueled, depending on the conditions. This will cause a rough idle as you have described.

It is recommended that you get a certified technician, such as one from YourMechanic, to come to your location and replace the idle air control valve for you.

What’s wrong with my manual Jeep if I’m driving at 5th gear but it sounds like I’m driving at 3rd or 4th?
ANSWER : Since the car is still new, the vehicle should be taken back to the dealer to be checked under warranty. You may need a repair or replacement of the engine assembly. The engine may have an imbalance causing the problem. There is a technical bulletin that may pertain to this vehicle and call for engine replacement. The TSB is 09-008-16 and is dated June 16, 2016.

The engine of the car runs, but when I push the gas pedal it does not accelerate, and the engine does not rev.
ANSWER : Hello. It sounds like you may have an issue with your throttle position sensor. This sensor sends a reference voltage to your power-train control module, which uses that to determine ignition timing and fuel trims. If the power-train control module is not detecting the proper signal from the throttle position sensor, the engine may not accelerate properly. It’s probably a good idea for you to have a professional mobile mechanic come to your location and complete a car is slow to accelerate inspection first, so they can pinpoint what is causing this issue to occur and they will recommend the right repairs be completed.

There’s a lawn mower sound coming from my engine when I’m driving
ANSWER : The noise could be due to an exhaust leak although it is also possible that a failed wheel bearing could cause enough "rumbling" to sound really loud. If you request a vehicle noise diagnostic the origin of the noise will be pinpointed and the certified mechanic will let you know of the required repair and the cost. The power steering leak is probably not related to the noise (unless the fluid level has fallen low enough to cause pump noise). Power steering leaks can be a fire hazard though (if the leaking fluid contacts a hot engine part) and so you should have the leak repaired. The service to request is a power steering system inspection – leak diagnostic. If you request these services, a certified Mechanic, dispatched by YourMechanic will come right to your location and get these problems fixed for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

Car not speeding up smoothly, service engine light on when first start driving and car vibrating
ANSWER : Hi There,
It sounds like you may have a dirty or faulty mass air flow sensor. The problem this can cause may also be compounded when the engine is cold due to the change in air density in cooler weather. The mass air flow sensor monitors air intake as it is mixed with fuel prior to being injected into the motor. This sensor relays information about fuel and air temperature, air speed entering the motor and many other things to the ECM which uses this to make adjustments to fuel supply to the motor. A dirty or faulty sensor can cause an imbalanced air/fuel load to be supplied to the motor which results in an over fueling or under fueling situation depending on the conditions. This type of inconsistent fuel supply to the motor may cause a hesitation, loss of power, a jerking reaction, potentially a bit of black exhaust smoke and typically a strong smell of fuel when this sensor is malfunctioning. I would suggest having a professional from Your Mechanic come to your home to diagnose and inspect your vehicle.
