I have 2015 dodge dart and it’s makes a high pitch screeching sound on idle not consistently is it normal? Dealership said it is.

I have a 2015 Dodge Dart SE with less than 22000 miles, it's making a high pitch screeching sound when in idle. It only does it every now and then. I took it to carmax and then they sent it to a dealer. Their technicians said it was normal. The sound that it makes is the same one I found on YouTube https://youtu.be/TxFR3ri3gFs
Is it really normal for it to made that sound?

My car has 21876 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hello, thank you for writing in. The noise you are hearing is not normal for most properly functioning engines, and although the damage may not be obvious right this moment, the component at fault may be on it’s way out. With that being said, the drive belt and it’s system of pulleys is most likely to blame. You will want to inspect the belt itself, the pulleys, and the crankshaft seal and pulley which provides it’s power. Since the dealership was not able to provide any information, you may have to wait until the component at fault stands out more, or pay to get a second inspection. For more help with that testing process, contact our service department to schedule an appointment.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

Bad Input Shaft Bearing: This is an internal bearing within the housing of the transmission, and it can create a whining sound when it begins to fail. Bad Wheel Bearing: Wheel bearings are located in each wheel hub, but the sound can travel and seem as though it`s coming from the transmission.
High-Pitched Squeal

A loose or worn fan belt, also known as the serpentine belt, is usually the cause. Replacing this belt or belt pulley should eliminate the sound. Consider having the timing belt checked as well.

The most common reasons a Dodge Dart has rough idle are a vacuum leak, an issue with the spark plugs, or a problem with the ignition coil. Search our network of RepairPal Certified shops near you to speak with a technician about your issue.
Annoying roaring or “helicopter” noises coming from the wheels are signs that your wheel bearings need replacing. The noises generally get louder at higher speeds and when the bearings are under strain while going around curves.
An engine that is hesitating to accelerate is most likely dealing with a fuel/air mixture that is too lean. Engine`s that are running inefficiently will begin to show signs like hesitation which will only become worse over time.
The Dodge Darts with faulty transmissions experienced symptoms such as rough shifting, jerking motions, and service transmission light illuminating. The most common fix is to replace the transmission, which also costs a lot of money ($3,420 on average).
If the whistling sound in your car is most noticeable when you accelerate, the likely culprit is a vacuum leak. The system that controls the air flow between the mass air flow sensor and the engine pushes air through a hose. If the hose comes loose or is damaged it results in a whistling sound as air escapes.
Bad transmission bearings – Your car`s transmission system has several bearings that can become damaged over time and need replacement. Damaged bearings can cause a loud whining noise as you accelerate which will become worse over time.
A passenger car will usually idle between 600 RPMs and 1000 RPMs. A properly functioning idle should run smoothly without skipping or slipping.
While some cases are less severe than others, a rough idle is usually identifiable by a shaking and bouncing sensation in the vehicle. You may also notice odd sounds, as well as inconsistent RPM counts. Normally, a vehicle should have a smooth and consistent RPM rate of around 1,000.
The most common reasons a Dodge Dart has a rattling noise are the ball joints, struts or strut mount, or a problem with the sway bar links.
Fuel injector nozzles can become clogged over time, which can lead to a sputtering engine, slow acceleration and the car not having enough power. Fuel injectors can be cleaned if the problem is caught early, but as the conditions worsens, the injectors may have to be replaced.
Common reasons for this to happen: Low Transmission Fluid: For both manual and automatic transmissions, the primary cause for whining when in gear is low transmission fluid. If the fluid is too low, then the internal components of the transmission are not lubricated properly.
Hearing a bubbling or gurgling sound means that there`s fluid at work. The most common source of this sound is your coolant system, particularly if you have an expansion tank attached to your radiator.

Subaru making high-pitched sound when starting.
ANSWER : I would take it to the dealer and have them diagnose it some more there are some common whining noises coming from that car. It could be in the transmission, the wheel bearing, drive shaft, fuel pump or something else.

My car has a high pitch chirping sound when accelerating. 2010 Subaru Impreza
ANSWER : Hi – your Impreza has a turbocharged engine for enhanced performance. This produces pressurized air for the engine, increasing power. To avoid over-pressurizing the engine, there are boost pressure controls, and a "waste gate" port to vent over-pressure – all electronically controlled. This can produce "chirping-like" noises under acceleration, especially during and after gear changes for manual transmission cars. This is normal behavior, and shouldn’t cause concern. If it seems excessively loud, I would recommend an engine inspection by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose this problem, give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.

Intermittently, car has high-pitched screeching in area of wheels
ANSWER : Hello. Your problem is likely due to abnormal wear on the pads or rotors. If there are grooves or pits in the pads or rotors a noise may develop but the noise may not always be present. There’s also a possibility that one of your brake hardware components are sliding out of place and scraping against a moving surface. I suggest having your braking system inspected by a technician to find the exact cause of the noise.

My car is making a weird high-pitched whirring sound – 2000 Pontiac Sunfire
ANSWER : Hi there. In most cases when you hear a screaming or squealing noise under the hood, it’s related to a belt that is loose or is beginning to show signs of wear. Since you’re having AC issues, the problem could be related to the serpentine belt, as this belt operates the AC pump. However, the noise could be coming from the blower motor as well.

The best way to diagnose this problem is to have a professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, come to your location to complete an inspection to determine why the car is making this noise.

High idling, jumping while idling, idle air control valve code
ANSWER : Hi there. This can be caused by the issues that you mentioned or a number of other things. You need to make sure all of the connectors are making good contact. I would then need to know what codes are in the computer to know if this is a circuit issue or not. Most of the time, it is not the circuit but instead a vacuum leak.

If there is a vacuum leak, then the vehicle will act like this and the computer cannot control the idle. Most of the time it is a bad hose or an EGR valve that is stuck open. That is the most common cause for this. I typically remove the EGR to check it to feel the diaphragm on the bottom of it to see if it is moving correctly. If you need to have this repaired, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to your home or office to diagnose and repair your car’s idling issue.

Near Constant squealing sound from drive side front wheel.
ANSWER : Hi there. The squealing noise that you are hearing from the wheel is the wheel bearings with no grease in them. I recommend replacing the wheel hub assembly on the driver side front wheel.

If you need further assistance with the squealing noise, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

Engine makes clicking sounds while idling and at lower speeds
ANSWER : Hey there. The first noise you described sounds like valve lifter noise. You will hear this sound if the engine is low on oil. Check the oil level and add if necessary. The lifter noise is not heard at higher RPMs because the oil pressure is higher as the engine speed gets higher. If you have high mileage, you could benefit from the next higher viscosity oil. For example: a car that originally called for 5w30 when the mileage gets up past 100K, you can use 10w30. The reason is because as bearings wear out it becomes harder to maintain oil pressure and a slightly thicker oil can help get some of that oil pressure back. I’m not sure what noise you could be describing, but there should not be rocks in any engine pipes. It is possible you have a cracked exhaust pipe or something else loose that is rattling against a pipe. A certified technician from YourMechanic can come to your car’s location to inspect the car noise and make the correct repairs.
