My car has a manual transmission.
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hello. If the vehicle was struck by lightning, then chances are that the gateway is bad. Most of the time, this sort of damage will require the replacement of every module in the vehicle. None will be protected from this type of voltage. The way I diagnose this is by installing a scan tool and checking the communication with each module. This will tell me which ones are not working. At that point the modules can be replaced, programmed and rebooted correctly. You may need to consult with the dealer and explain the situation to see if they can help you out in any way. If you would like another technician to give it a check, a certified pro from YourMechanic can come to your car’s location to inspect the electrical problems in person and advise you on any actions you need to take.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Common reasons for this to happen:

Low fuel pressure, dirty or defective fuel injectors, or broken fuel pump: The fuel pump is responsible for transferring fuel from the tank to the engine.

The common causes of car starting problem and their solution are: Starter issues: Starter contacts worn out, starter solenoid faulty, starter assembly faulty or starter circuit fault etc. So, replace starter contacts, starter solenoid, starter assembly or repair starter circuit as required.
Some Volkswagen models will experience coil failure around 70,000 miles. A failed coil can lead to ignition and engine issues. You might experience backfiring, terrible fuel consumption, and your engine stalling. You`d be smart to take the car to your mechanic if you feel it could be a coil issue.
While electrical issues seem to plague most Volkswagens, ABS failure, transmission issues, and ignition problems are also common in most models.
The big problem with the Golf related to the DSG transmission. Avoid cars with that transmission before 2013/2014. If you want to buy a Golf you could buy one with a manual gearbox, or buy a later model.
Another possible scenario (especially if you have an old car) is that your car`s ignition switch is worn out. This can cause a car to shut off while driving, but the fact that you noticed a gradual electrical shutdown—rather than everything stopping at once—suggests an alternator or battery issue.
The most common cause of why a car loses power when accelerating is a clogged fuel filter or engine air filter.
Bad Sensors

One common culprit for this problem is the crankshaft position sensor, which measures the position and speed of the crankshaft. The computer uses the information from this sensor to know when to fire the spark plugs. If the sensor isn`t working, the spark plugs won`t fire, keeping the engine from starting.

Why won`t my car start but the battery is good? If your car won`t start but the battery is good, the most common cause is a faulty starter – though it could also be to do with your fuel. You may have insufficient fuel to get the car going.
The Scandal

VW admitted to equipping more than 11 million diesel-powered cars worldwide with software designed to cheat government emissions tests. As a result, the company will have to either buy back, terminate the lease of, or modify nearly 500,000 cars sold in the US since 2009.

According to motorbiscuit.com, the 2014 Volkswagen Golf is the best because it is more reliable than the previous generation and filled with technology the old Volkswagen Golf did not have.
How many miles does a Volkswagen Golf last? The VW Golf is a strong and trustworthy car that is well known for its grit and determination, so it`s unsurprising to find out that they can do up to 200,000 miles before the engine begins to reach its upper limit.
Is the Volkswagen Golf a good car? Yes, it`s still one of the best choices in the family hatchback class because it`s comfortable, refined, good to drive and well-equipped. There`s also a range of excellent engine choices from a 1.0-litre petrol right up to a 320PS 2.0-litre in the Golf R.
Is the 2020 Golf reliable? Looking back from 2022 and 2021, and even further than 2020, Golf models generally have received above-average reviews from critical outlets and consumers. The same applies to the reliability reports of each year.

Not getting enough fuel car will not run right. It stalls when you give it gas and stalls when it’s running. It’s a 1984 Ford Escort.
ANSWER : Hi there, thanks for writing in. Several early 80’s Ford’s swapped from carburetor to fuel injected engines; including your ’84 Ford Escort. However, there were two different fuel systems available that year. If your Escort has the fuel injected engine, one item I’d check is the EGR valve or clean the throttle body.

Both systems impact fuel delivery into the engine and if they are dirty or clogged with excessive carbon build up, can starve the engine to create this type of issue. If it’s the carburetor version, the carburetor might need to be rebuilt, or may be an issue with float bowls inside the carb.

If you need assistance diagnosing the exact issue, feel free to contact one of our professional mechanics to complete an engine is stalling inspection firsthand at your own location.

Vehicle started running rough while driving. Now running/idling rough running rich.
ANSWER : Hello. From the symptoms you describe, it would appear that your vehicle is having issues with the oxygen sensors. P0172 is the code for bank 1 being too rich. This can be caused by a wide variety of issues. The other two codes are for the sensors on bank 2, having excessively high voltage.

This may be due to the rich condition, faulty oxygen sensors, or faulty wiring. The black smoke and soot is a result of excessive fuel that is not being properly burned, and exiting the tailpipe as smoke. A few common causes for these symptoms are a bad fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, or engine management sensor. As engine management systems can sometimes be difficult to diagnose, I would recommend having the rough idling issue inspected by a professional technician.

I have a2006 350Z convertible. The air conditioner doesn’t start until I’ve had the car running for at least 3 miles. I’ve tried t
ANSWER : Depending on how hot it is outside and how hot the interior of your vehicle is, it may take as long as 5 minutes on some vehicles to get the interior cooled down. The hotter it is inside the car the more difficult it will be to cool that space. I would recommend letting all the windows down for the first couple minutes of driving and then try the air conditioner. The cold air may begin coming out much more quickly this way.

All my exterior lights work (brake, signal, hazard, reverse, etc.) EXCEPT running tail lights
ANSWER : If you are certain all fuses are good/tight, grounds are good and all bulbs are correct in voltage for the vehicle, I have a suggestion from personal experience with a MK 5 Jetta sitting right outside. Make sure the front marker lights are working. The issue we were experiencing with this Jetta was similar. When switching the lights on, the left rear marker would light for a brief moment, then go out and set a bulb fault on the instrument cluster.

After spending a bit of time on that, we found the left FRONT marker light in the headlight housing was out. The bulb was found to be good upon removal and inspection, but the terminals had a bit of corrosion, giving a poor ground. After cleaning the contacts with a bit of emery cloth and reinstalling the socket, both front and rear bulbs are working properly.

If you need some help with this, consider YourMechanic, as a mobile expert can come to you and diagnose your lights firsthand. Best of luck.

Hi Godwin, I’ve got a ’03 Mustang GT with 62,000 miles. Needless to say it doesn’t get driven much. I’ve never changed or flushed 2003 Ford Mustang GT
ANSWER : Hello – wow, great job on the preventative maintenance front! Yes, following the same theme as replacing your brake fluid – given the years (vs the miles) on your Mustang – flushing the power steering fluid and replacing the filter inside the reservoir is a great idea from the preventative maintenance point of view. I recommend a power steering system service by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, and perform this service. You might also consider a transmission fluid & filter service as well, since you appear to be keeping your Mustang for the long run.

5.7l cuts out when you throttle the engine from a stop. Gets going sometime then hesitates. When it gets to 50 mph it runs fine.
ANSWER : Hi there. Check the IAC (idle air control valve) and see if its functioning. If the engine is having an issue with stumbling, the IAC could be causing the engine to stall out. If the IAC is working properly, then check the MAF (mass air flow sensor) to see if its dirty. A MAF sensor will cause the engine to also stumble when a low speeds if the sensor is malfunctioning. If the engine light is on, then use a scanner to check for any codes to have a starting location for diagnosis. If you need further assistance with your engine cutting out until 50 mph, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

I got a 1976 Chevy truck 350,it’s runs good when gets hot it the shuts off, when it cools it runs again, what could the problem be?
ANSWER : It sounds like what you are describing is a classic sign of a failing ignition coil that may be getting too hot to operate properly and is going through a heat cycling phase. Ignition coils are made of a varnish like material that will crack and become brittle over time, causing the internal wiring of the coil wire to become exposed. When the heat under the hood rises during engine operation, this causes the exposure of the wiring to become more pronounced which results in the coil shorting and becoming inoperable. When the heat under the hood cools down and the ignition coil cools off, they begin to work again. This type of heat cycling will usually continue until the coil ultimately fails completely. I would suggest having a professional from YourMechanic come to your location to take a look at your ignition system and test your ignition coils to determine what my be causing this.
