I am going to buy a Mazda 6 2006 but the guy told me it won't go over 20 mph and that the reason is because the ECU is fried. it also needs a spark plug in cylinder 5. I don't know much about cars so I wanted to know if by getting a new ECU and a new spark plug. Will the car run good again? That's what the guy told me that was needed to be done.

Top engine ticking on a 2006 Mazda Miata
ANSWER : Like I told to a guy with Honda–get your valves adjusted. Odds are the valves are just out of adjustment. That is why it sounds like it is ticking away. If you are hearing it coming from the top, then either the valves are out of adjustment or the follower arms and cams that are pushed on it are worn and ticking. First try the valve adjustments. If you are not that comfortable doing this, any good technician can come to adjust your valves.

Will the bolt pattern match up with a ’98 Mazda B3000 motor to my ’88 transmission 1988 Mazda B3000
ANSWER : Hello – unless your ’88 has the M5OD-R1 5-speed transmission, I don’t believe this swap will work. There were simply too many engine changes over the 10 years, and the M5OD transmission is one of the few common elements. You don’t mention whether the ’98 engine is also a 4 cylinder or not – the 4 cylinder engines changed the most. Front end on my Mazda 6 is making some creaking sounds when steering and at times when riding straight.
