I have 2009 Buick LaCrosse. Coming home and driving downhill by Traction Light and ABS light went on. When I got home I noticed fluid leak in my driveway. I restarted the car and the lights went out. Can you tell me possible req repairs?

My car has 99000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hello. The traction light and ABS light are like a check engine light for your braking system. If an issue is detected the light will illuminate and code will be stored inside of the ABS module. I suggest that a technician run a ABS scan Diagnostics on your vehicle to gather the code(s). Such fluid leakage after the ABS light Illuminating leads me to believe that the vehicle has a brake fluid hydraulic leak such as a ruptured brake line, leaking caliper, or master cylinder. Leaking hydraulic brake fluid can be dangerous because eventually the system will lose pressure and leave you unable to brake. How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

ABS is malfunctioning: Traction control and ABS (anti-lock braking system) often share the same control module and internal self-diagnostics system. As a result, sometimes an issue in the ABS can trigger the traction control light. If this is the case, then both the ABS and Traction Control lights will be on.
Because the ABS and traction control often share the same module, a problem with one mechanism might be indicated by a light for both. If the brake system is malfunctioning, the traction control light might come on as a result. The light for your ABS might also come on if the brake fluid is low.
Traction control and ABS often share the same control module and internal self-diagnostics system. This means that sometimes an issue in the ABS can trigger the traction control light to come on.
Press the gas pedal 3 times in quick succession. Then, turn your engine on all the way and let it run for a minute. The TCS and ABS lights should reset and go away if there isn`t any underlying problem with your traction control system.
The primary input of the TCS is the wheel speed sensor. These sensors continuously monitor the speed of each driven wheel and send the data to the ABS and Traction Control System ECU. When a slip is detected between the tire and the road, the TCS regulates brake pressure on the slipping wheel.
One reason your vehicle`s ABS light is on is because it may be sensing abnormally low levels of brake fluid. You`ll be able to notice if your brake fluid is low by the way your car brakes. The braking may seem soft or spongy. However, if the brake fluid is low, you`ll probably see more than just the ABS light come one.
Wheel speed sensors are often called ABS sensors. You`ll find them mounted on the axles of all ABS equipped vehicles. Look for this sensor on your wheel hubs, near the brake rotors. You`ll find the rear wheel speed sensor mounted on the rear axle housing or wheel cylinder.
The anti-lock function will stop working properly, which may increase the distance it takes to safely stop your vehicle. The rear tires will lock, which will increase vehicle swing on turns and may make your vehicle more difficult to control.
In order to operate, your ABS system needs electricity. This is controlled by the anti-lock fuses and relay. The first fuse (a 10 amp fuse) must be good in order for electricity to flow to the relay, and the relay must function to provide power to the second fuse (a 30 amp fuse).
Without ABS, a rapid, hard brake application could cause wheel lockup and loss of vehicle steering control, if the driver does not pump the brakes correctly or limit the brake pedal force to prevent wheel lockup. Therefore, more driver skill is needed to obtain short stops without ABS.”
If you don`t have anti-locks, hard braking can cause the wheels to lock up, which can send you into a skid. Wheel lockup can result in longer stopping distances and can cause you to lose control,” Rader says.
On all car models, the ESP G419 sensor unit is installed under the left seat.
Faulty ABS Module

The ABS pump in the braking systems tends to carry some braking fluid. Some seals hold it in place, but if they get worn out, it can cause the fluid to start leaking out.

If the ABS system is not functioning properly, then your vehicle is likely to skid, hydroplane and lose traction under heavy braking conditions. The last time you want to find this out is when you need it most in tough conditions, which could lead to an accident on the road.
Does A Faulty ABS Module Drain My Battery? An ABS module failure can cause the ABS pump to run continuously. This can eventually drain out your vehicle battery. To prevent a flat battery or burning out the ABS pump, have your mechanic remove the ABS fuse.
Removing a wheel speed sensor will disable ABS—and sometimes, stability control. If your car has a yaw sensor, you can unplug that for results. You can also try simply unplugging the ABS module, though that could adversely affect your car`s braking performance.
The ABS (anti-lock braking) and ESP (electronic stability program) lights usually come on at the same time because the two systems share components. WHen the lights are on, it means that the controller has seen a malfunction and stored a fault code describing that malfunction.
When the system is damaged or needs a part to replace, it can cost anywhere from $320 to $1,000. The exact cost really depends on your car and the components of its given ABS system.

In some cases, the warning light may come on because wheel-speed sensors are covered with road grime or debris. When the traction control warning light stays on, that means you aren`t getting any help from the system to control traction and the system needs to be checked.

Abs light, emergency brake light, steering wheel assist light, engine light, EPC light, traction control light
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. The vehicle does utilize a lot of the same sensors for these systems. Are there any other codes that are coming up when this code appears? If so you will want to take these into consideration when processing the repair and making a diagnosis. The module may be bad, and replacing it should fix the problem. The lights should turn off once the main computer recognizes the new module and the sensors sync up. If you believe the sensors need to be cleaned you may do so. Do as minimal as possible to make sure you are not damaging the sensor or disrupting the wiring inside. A bad connection would make the lights stay on. With so many lights that are effected by the module being illuminated, the module is likely bad or does not have a connection. Check the connection first and then resort to replacing the unit. Battery light goes on when I start car then turns off, if I rev engine light comes back until rpms go down. Abs goes comes on/off
ANSWER : Batteries can die due to faults in the charging system so ideally a suspected "faulty" battery should be load tested before a decision is made to condemn it. The only exception to this rule is if the battery is already clearly "old" (greater than 5 years) but even then once you put a new battery in, as a replacement for a "dead" battery, you have to comprehensively check out the charging system. Diagnostic Trouble Code P0460 will result in disruption of the dashboard fuel gauge’s ability to accurately report your tank’s fuel levels. The fuel gauge readings may be erratic, or read somewhere off scale. Vehicles equipped with a low fuel warning light feature may also suffer from erratic low fuel warnings in the event of a code P0460. Unless the P0460 code has been reported alongside other trouble code, all of the vehicle’s essential systems should otherwise function normally. I would recommend that you request a check engine light diagnostic to first resolve the fault causing the P0460 code to set. The check gas cap light warning light could be due a faulty gas cap and/or small leaks in the EVAP system.

2012 equinox reduced power light engine light and traction light came on. Lost a lot of power got home and all light except engine
ANSWER : Your car has what is called a "safe mode" that will be engaged by the computer when it detects that something critical has gone wrong related to any of the major components in your engine chassis or power train. This may be related to a number of things, most of which should have been registered in the computer when the check engine light came on. I recommend having an expert from YourMechanic come to your location to inspect your check engine light and diagnose any codes registered by your vehicle’s computer.

Was driving down the road felt like i hit something car started amoking no lights after driving lights came on now wont start
ANSWER : I have never heard of someone running over a water bottle and it spray all over engine. You were obviously misdirected by someone at the parts store and now you have seized motor from overheating the engine. You most likely have blown head gaskets and coolant has filled a cylinder causing the engine to be locked up. You may have damaged the engine beyond repair and need to replace the engine. Have a mechanic remove all the spark plugs and see if one or more cylinders were filled with coolant? If so you may be able to have the head gaskets replaced if engine turns over with plugs out.

Rebuilt engine, oil light on, stalling, traction control
ANSWER : Hi there. One of the biggest issues that car owners experience after having an engine replaced are symptoms like you describe. In most cases, the issue is that the ECU was not correctly reprogrammed by a dealership and thus, is not effectively communicating with sensors and monitoring systems. In other instances, small sensor wires, electrical connection harnesses and other components might be damaged and have not been replaced during the engine swap. Either way, it’s very difficult to pinpoint these issues without being there to inspect the vehicle personally. As such, I would recommend having a professional mobile mechanic come to your location and complete a warning light inspection, so they can inspect your vehicle onsite and determine the best course of action.

ABS light on, ESP light on,Traction OFF light on, engine light on, rides perfectly OBDI reads only Front Right Wheel Speed Sensor
ANSWER : If a faulty component is still in place, the fault codes will return almost immediately after clearing them. ABS, ESP, and traction control systems all rely on input from wheel speed sensors to determine as the name implies, the speed of each wheel. When a wheel, or wheels are spinning faster than others due to wheel slip or the vehicle is sliding, the ABS and ESP systems can reduce throttle input as well as apply braking to an individual wheel or all of them if needed. With a wheel speed sensor fault code stored, these systems cannot determine the rate that all 4 wheels are spinning and sets a fault. That is why the abs/esp light is on. The system should be scanned by a certified technician and the wheel speed sensor replaced if found to be the cause. The warning lights will stay on and these systems will not function as designed until the fault is corrected. These lights do not come on to indicate a need for routine service. Rather they only come on when a component in the system is at fault.

ABS light comes on while driving. Also traction control light comes on while driving,
ANSWER : The ABS and Traction control use sensors located in the tire area. There are hub bearings that are paired with sensors operation. The clunk sound could be some type of wear that needs to be look at as soon as possible. Scan tool is going to be needed to read data from the ABS module to determine the fault with the system. This issue could be electrical and mechanical. I recommend having a certified professional, like one from YourMechanic, inspect the warning light in person to assist with a repair.
