Dome lights will not turn on when door opened, radio will not turn off when car is off and door is opened.

I just bought the car and did not notice either of this issues until I got it home last night, I opened the door and the radio stayed on. I know some radios have a set time limit so I sat and waited for 5 minutes to no avail. I closed the door and opened it multiple times and when I did that I noticed the dome light will not turn on when the drive side door is opened. When the passenger door is opened it turns on. And yes I did check to make sure that it was set to turn on when the door is open and it still didn't work. I turned the car on and off multi

Hello, thank you for writing in. The vehicle is likely having issues with the door switch which activates/shuts down both circuits. This is going to look like a peg in the door frame next to the hinge. The peg that is designed to make contact with the switch behind it may be at fault, or the switch itself may be faulty. It is best considering the circumstances that you replace the entire unit, as they are typically sold as an assembly. It is a rather straight forward repair if you are looking to do it yourself. Simply remove the old switch and reconnect it to the new one. Make sure to unplug the battery before hand. With that said, you can also contact our service department to schedule an appointment, and we can resolve the issue for you.

The dome light staying on can also be an indicator there is a problem with the door. If the door has loose hinges or is misaligned and sits improperly, it can`t latch completely in and the switch won`t turn off since the latch is not interrupting the circuit.
This is generally caused by a short in the steering wheel cable reel assembly, but could also be a bad horn switch, or horn relay.
Lasting Light. If the car interior light simply won`t turn off, then check the switch. It may have gotten bumped accidentally by a passenger, valet or car wash employee. If the switch is in the “door” or “off” position and your interior light still stays on, then you should consult a mechanic.
You may simply have a faulty door switch that is turning on and off when it shouldn`t. Check that all the doors make the interior lights come on and go off when you open and close the doors. You may also what to check the tailgate/trunk. If one of them is not operating correctly then it`s switch may need replacing.
Most oldr cars the headlights were on a separate circuit not switched through the ignition so that the lights could be used without the car being on. Naturally they will stay on after you switch off the ignition but you can run down the battery if you forget to turn them off.
The IOD fuse is a 20 amp fuse located in cavity #51 of the integrated power module (IPM). This fuse provides power to the instrument cluster, diagnostic connector, map lamps, glove box, courtesy lamps, radio and underhood light.
When one light does not work and the others do then a blown fuse may have occurred which needs replacing. If a short circuit has occurred then replacing the fuse and repairing the wiring may be needed. If the car door lights do not work then the door jamb switch often needs replacing.
Even just leaving a door slightly ajar may be enough to cause the internal lights to illuminate – and if you leave your lights on long enough, your car`s battery will be drained. Luckily, this can be easily fixed with a jump-start, and in most cases, your battery will be just fine afterward.
Most likely, flickering dash lights are due to problems with the alternator. In addition to recharging the battery, the alternator is in control of running the electrical components in your vehicle. If the alternator is failing, it may not be able to steadily supply enough current to all the components.
If you turned on the interior lights, then you will have to turn them off. This is different from the posted question, which is yes, if you have the headlights set to auto, they turn off automatically along with the interior lights when you exit (unless you`ve turned the interior lights on manually).
The problem you describe about the lights going off and on are usually caused by the headlight bulbs overloading the head light switch built in circuit breaker. I would recommend replacing the headlight bulbs with factory specified bulbs and then if problem continues then replace head light switch.
Light Sensors: This can act very much like a motion sensor except it works off the differing light levels in the foreground and background. The closer you are to the door, the darker it gets as you block out light. When the light level drops below a certain level the door opens.
One piece attaches on the door frame, and the other attaches parallel to the first piece on the door itself. The two parts create a closed circuit when the door is shut. As the door opens, the magnet and switch separate, breaking the circuit. When the circuit breaks, the sensor signals the central control panel.
A fuse isn`t required for the lights to work. You can still hook them up directly to the battery. But most people still want to use a fuse to protect the circuit and wiring in case of a short.
Fuse Burnout

Fuse burnout and tripped circuit breakers can contribute to light switch malfunctioning, too. What is this? Because of this, it`s important to take a look at your circuit breaker before you go ahead and buy a whole new light switch. Sometimes, you can replace a fuse and correct the situation.

The is a small fuse box on the passenger side of the vehicle just below the dash and in front of the door opening. In there is a 10 amp fuse for the interior lights. The fuse box cover will show its position in the fuse box. if the fuse is good than the news is bad.
You will find the fuse chart inside the fuse box cover. The central fuse box is located behind the storage compartment underneath the instrument panel. To remove the storage compartment, open it and pull it outwards.
When the dome light draws too much current, the filament inside the fuse bursts to stop the flow of electricity.Feb 8, 2021.
If engine off + no brake signal + key inserted in ACC position , the override button works and lets you shift gear without pressing the brake.
If you leave the light on for too long, the battery will drain and the car will no longer start.
More specifically, if your garage door light won`t shut off, it is most likely due to one of these reasons: Something is triggering your garage door motion sensors, which are responsible for turning the light on and off automatically. You left the panel light switch on. Your garage door`s light feature is engaged.
Defective switch

One of the most common causes when a car light won`t turn off, is a faulty switch. In such a case, you move the switch to “Off” – but the signal does not reach the light. This defect can usually be quickly detected by dismantling the switch.

Turning off the lights when you leave your room can help save energy. It can also help reduce carbon emission and other harmful greenhouse gases. Hence, turning off your lights is a simple way to help protect the environment and save the planet.

Dome light turns on and off by itself while vehicle is turned off.
ANSWER : Hi there. Check the courtesy light switches on the doors to the vehicle. It seems that one or more switch may have a bad ground or a bad contact in the switch causing the courtesy light to come on while the engine is off and the key is out of the ignition with the doors shut. If you need further assistance with your courtesy light, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

on a 1970 Lincoln mark iii Interior lights wont turn on and warning lights are very dim and doorlock button makes buzzer go on
ANSWER : Hi there. Although the electrical systems on older vehicles tend to be much simpler in design, in many cases, issues like you’ve described can be very tricky to trace. It could possibly be something as simple as an expose wire creating an electrical short or a faulty relay that is not completing an electrical circuit. I wish we can help you further, but the best advice I can offer is to have one of our mobile mechanics come to your location and complete an electrical problems inspection.

Okay so when I turn my lights on at night my brake lights do not work, when I don’t have my lights on they work fine.
ANSWER : Hi there. Based on your inquiry, it’s highly probable that you have a damaged light switch or some electrical fault inside the turn signal relay. However, it’s also possible that the brake switch above the brake pedal could also be the source of your problem. Due to the fact that multiple electrical components might be causing this issue, it’s a smart idea to first have a professional mobile mechanic complete a brake lights are not working inspection, so they can determine what’s causing all of these issues and recommend the right repairs.

car dome light wont go off with key in the ignition cant turn dome light on maumally every frw day car has to be jumped off
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. The dome light is triggered by several different switches, and one of them is stuck on. One thing you can do until you diagnose the issue, is unplug the fuse for the light. This should help the battery issue until the problem is resolved. You will have the best luck tracing the voltage supply with a voltmeter to the switch that is giving it power. You will also benefit from a wiring diagram of the circuit. If you do not have a voltmeter, it is a guessing game. You will want to attempt to turn the light off with the door switch (located in the door jam), and at the dashboard switch. Unplugging one of these components should turn the light off, and then you know what your problem is. For more diagnostic help, contact our service department to schedule an appointment.

Car won’t turn over. No lights come on when I turn it. Can’t even lock my doorsvor push the seat up or back.
ANSWER : Your probably correct, it sounds as though your battery is done. But it also sounds like you have charging system issues. I’m not sure that fixing your battery and charging system will solve the problem with the car shutting off, but it’s possible that it will and it’s a darned good place to start. By contacting Your Mechanic, you can have a technician come to your home or office to check out your car and help you figure out what to do next.

As I’m driving, all my lights inside/out of the car turn off and the car still stays on. But when I turn the car off it won’t turn over
ANSWER : Hello there. The charging system on the car may not be charging the battery as you drive and the systems that keep the engine running are priority so the engine will stay running until the voltage drops below about 9 volts but the lighting and some other accessories may cut off above this voltage first. You should have the charging system tested to see if the alternator needs to be replaced.

Battery and oil light come on when trying to start car, take keys out try again car starts no problem and lights go away
ANSWER : Of course, don’t switch gears without being fully stopped, unless your Owner’s Manual or the manufacturer has alternative advice. However, the gear shift issue has no relation to the no-start problem you are describing. Inasmuch as you only have 6,000 miles on the car, the "constant on and off" that you believe has occurred is meaningless in comparison to the expected total vehicle service life. That is, assume what you perceive as "constant on and off", during merely 6,000 miles, might be equivalent to using the car "normally" for three years. A new car should be trouble free for at least 5 years, unless there is a defect, so your "constant on and off" is not a causal factor for any fault on the vehicle. What you might have is a defect in the ignition switch, or perhaps the immobilizer system, but if the problem is not in the switch itself, clearly there is an electrical problem.

If your vehicle is under warranty, by law the dealer MUST repair the issue you are describing within a prescribed time frame and number of "attempts", otherwise the dealer will run afoul of Federal and state Lemon Laws that give you very specific rights, and recourse (contact an Attorney; we are Mechanics, NOT attorneys). Consequently, if the vehicle is still under warranty, to save yourself money do be sure to seek a resolution from the dealer. If the vehicle is not under warranty, obviously a certified Mechanic from YourMechanic could identify the electrical fault and resolve this for you.
