Hi there. There are several possibilities here before replacing the motor may be required. Check the 40 amp fuses for the motor first, and also check the relay for the lift motor as well for burned contacts. The fluid level may be low or the fluid may be dirty, and will therefore need replacement. I am not aware of a motor rebuild service for this motor, but they may exist. Consult owner forums like mbworld.org for guidance on motor repair sources.

I recommend having a certified mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, come to your location to perform an inspection for any electrical problems and suggest the necessary repairs.

If a convertible top simply doesn`t go up or down when you engage the switch, the cause may be a bad fuse, lift cylinder, or relay. When a convertible top gets stuck in the process, it is most likely caused by a lift cylinder or a broken cable.

When it comes to soft top convertibles, wear and tear really degrades their lifespan. You can expect to get 3-6 years out of a soft top before it needs to be replaced. This is because holes, mold, sagging, or broken seams are common.

Convertible top won’t open/close properly & no repairs work
ANSWER : As vehicles age, it is not uncommon to have convertible top issues. Convertible tops rely on many sensors and motors to work properly. When one or more of these items start to have issues, it can be difficult to detect which is the cause. The most common causes are one of the top motors, or a latch assembly. A qualified technician, such as one from YourMechanic, will be able to diagnose any problems with the convertible top and perform any repairs required.

Convertible top is stuck open – 2001 Mercedes Benz SLK320
ANSWER : Hello. Most of the time this is caused by the lift motor failing. The motor will lose its ability to lift the top, which will cause all of these symptoms. It can also be an electrical issue, but this is not as common. For a problem with the convertible top, your best bet may be to bring the car into the dealer to see if they can pinpoint and repair the problem.

Sunroof won’t close all the way after opening in freezing weather
ANSWER : The sun roof mechanism is most likely getting, or has gotten, corroded or rusted. In this case, it would need to be replaced. The switch contacts are loosing contact and the switch should be replaced as well.

The recommended thing to do is have the entire sun roof assembly replaced. However, you can try lubricating the unit and cleaning out the tracks. If doesn’t fix it, replacing the motor may be needed along with the switch. A certified mechanic can help you by diagnosing the state of your sunroof and fixing it accordingly.

Convertible top fluid brand
ANSWER : Hello there. When checking the fluid, the top must be in the service position for an accurate reading. This should show the fluid level at the proper level once the top is in the service position.

The bolt and washer are removed carefully and the Mercedes special tool is used to add or remove fluid. The only approved convertible top fluid is the fluid supplied by Mercedes under their own brand.

WD40 is not a lubricate that is used to remove water and rust, but it is not sufficient for lubrication purposes long term. If the top is continuing to not work, then there is likely another fault other than the fluid level. The most common would be one of the top motors being faulty, a bad top position sensor, or a broken top switch. If you need help having these checked, a certified technician from YourMechanic can come to your car’s location to diagnose and repair your convertible top.

Convertible top not closing all of the way
ANSWER : There are several things that may be causing this problem. Firstly, dirt stuck in the rails of the sun roof can jam or impede the full range of the motion of the automated top. Also, if any of the components are bent or damaged, the sun roof could be getting blocked. Another possibility is that a failing motor could be keeping the full range of motion from being completed as well. An inspection of your electrical components should be carried out by a qualified technician in order to find the cause of your concern.

Sliding door won’t close with buttons
ANSWER : The doors have a safety sensor that will not allow the door to close when the sensor is indicating that the door is blocked. Another possibility is that the door slides are binding the door and the motor senses it then reverses it back open.

The system will need to be scanned with a scanner that can monitor the input and outputs of the body computer’s sensor. You will have to have it tested since it is a safety hazard to try and bypass the system.

You could try and open door all the way open and clean the door tracks out. Be sure to remove all of the dirt and debris that are in the tracks and lightly lube the tracks. If it still binds and reverses then have a certified mechanic test the system out. They will be able to diagnose the problem with your door and make the necessary repairs.

2006 Jeep Liberty passenger door won’t open or close and interior light won’t go off
ANSWER : Hi there. It is quite possible that the door’s locking mechanism has broken or is frozen; which is typically the primary reason why a door won’t open or close. This could be the lock actuator or the lock itself that is damaged, or the lock assembly is broken, so providing an estimate without an inspection to verify why the door won’t open is very difficult to provide. The light staying on may be caused by a door sensor that is also damaged. The best way to have this problem correctly diagnosed is to have a professional mobile mechanic from YourMechanic.com come to your location and complete a door will not open inspection.

soft top won’t close i want to know if it will be cheap or expensive to fix the seller said only 100 most likely
ANSWER : Hi there. You are correct to be worried about the cost of repairing a convertible soft-top; especially an Audi or BMW. When a convertible top begins to have difficulty closing all the way, it’s typically caused by the primary support brackets beginning to wear out; and in some cases, bend. This creates additional drain on the motor and can cause the top to not open or close without full replacement. I’d consider purchasing a different vehicle; as the cost to repair a convertible top down the road can exceed $1,000.00.
