Can you tell me why some people think fords are really bad?

Everybody I know thinks Fords are poorly made. I don't know if this is true. Can you please tell me?
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
According to JD Power’s latest "2016 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study", which was based on responses from 33,560 original owners of 2013 model-year vehicles after three years of ownership, Ford vehicles have a below average "overall dependability" rating. JD Power’s survey looked at 177 specific problem symptoms grouped into eight major vehicle categories. Consumer Reports also publishes very detailed reliability ratings for all individual Ford models covering at least the last 5 years of production. You can peruse those highly detailed ratings in the Library and compare, side by side, with all other vehicles on the market. There’s a lot of data available, so with a little bit of research you should be able to draw your own conclusions about the safety and reliability of purchasing a Ford.

One of the biggest factors consumers look at when choosing between foreign and domestic makes is the recalls of each auto manufacturer. BMW, Subaru, Lexus, and Honda routinely land in the top ranks by delivering on these virtues, from their base models to their high-end vehicles.

Sick Car Syndrome is primarily caused by poor car hygiene but is enhanced by a car`s air conditioning system. When an air conditioner switches off after use, a small pool of condensation forms which creates the ideal conditions for mould and mildew to grow.

Ford Model T

Part of the collection at the Gateway Auto Museum, the Model T (or “Tin Lizzy,” as Henry Ford called it) influenced every single automobile that came after it because of its groundbreaking and more cost-effective assembly-line production method. Can you tell me why some people think fords are really bad?

I have a bad oxygen sensor, bad power steering sensor, and a bad cam shaft sensor? Should I replace any of them?
ANSWER : When you say you have three bad sensors I can only assume you have had them tested and the end result is three bad sensors. If they tested bad then they should be replaced. The power steering sensor senses the load of the steering on the engine so it can raise the idle during parking maneuvers. The O2 sensor is used for fuel control and it may effect engine power and fuel mileage. The camshaft sensor cay cause no starts, engine running problems and all three will turn on the check engine light.

My mechanic mistook a bad starter for a bad timing chain and bent valves. Is that really weird?
ANSWER : Although, it is very difficult to say what may have led to a diagnosis like this, an engine that is improperly timed may at first sound like a starting problem due to the sound the motor will make when turning it over. When this happens, you may notice a bit of an accelerated sound coming from the engine turning over as the timing is not correct. A bad starter, however would be entirely unrelated to the timing components and valves in a motor.

Diagnostic code read o2 sensor bad, replaced o2 sensor, cleared code but engine light came back on, is it caused by bad air filter
ANSWER : Hello there. Typically jump starting a vehicle doesn’t trigger an OBD-II error code. However, one of the most common misdiagnosis issues with the P-2270 is replacing the O2 sensor before diagnosing if there are any exhaust leaks. Obviously, you’ll want to check for the exhaust leaks first, repair the damaged component, and then clear the codes before scanning the vehicle again. Sometimes the electrical harness attached to the O2 sensor is damaged or dirty which will also trigger this error code. The noise and vibration may be an indicator of a loose exhaust pipe, which may be the source of the error code staying on. If you need any help, have a technician from YourMechanic come to your home or office to diagnose your Check Engine Light and make the necessary repairs.

I recently changed out a bad coil pack that had been bad for a month. Literally today it got changed and shuts down while driving
ANSWER : Hello. The bad coil wouldn’t have caused the crank sensor to fail. Crankshaft sensors are the most common failure on this engine so it should just be a coincidence. I would use a scan tool just to make sure that there is no rpm reading before replacing it though, as there are some other problems that can occur, but are not as likely. If you need help with this, consider having a technician from YourMechanic come to your home or office to diagnose this problem with a scan tool and replace the crankshaft sensor if necessary.

shakes really bad when driving
ANSWER : Hello. I suggest you have steering and suspension evaluation done on your vehicle. The shaking you are describing is likely coming from a control arm bushing, or shocks and struts. A technician should be able to pinpoint which component it’s causing the shaking by doing a steering and suspension evaluation. If you wish, you can find a technician and schedule an appointment to do so here https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/brakes-steering-and-suspension-inspection

how to tell if the egr is bad off he vehicle
ANSWER : Hi there. Checking the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve off the vehicle, using a piece of vacuum hose attached to the small vacuum nipple, apply vacuum to the diaphragm (suck on the hose) which should move the valve to the open position and it should stay open until vacuum is released. In the open position, the exhaust to intake passage should allow air to freely flow. In the closed position, the exhaust to intake passage should allow no air to flow. I recommend having your vehicle’s EGR valve be diagnosed and repaired by a certified technician, such as one from YourMechanic.

How can I tell if a car with a recall was fixed? Can a mechanic tell?
ANSWER : The manufacture should be able to tell you. To my knowledge the US Department of Transportation will have that information available to you. You should be able to access that information on their website dedicated to making the roads safer: Safercar.gov. It is located under the "Vehicle’s Owner" tab at the top of the page. If the current owners and the repair reports do not have records of these repairs, they likely have not been done. Do you know if this specific vehicle is within the recall parameters? The Vin lookup should be able to answer most of these questions for you. Always consider getting a pre-purchase vehicle inspection performed before any purchase.
