Hi there. The issue could be the vent valve on the fuel tank. The valve is designed to let out air but not fuel. The hose to the valve could have came off and caused the valve to crack or become damaged. Also, if your fuel tank has only one strap on it, it is possible that the fuel filler neck is coming apart causing the fuel to drip out due to the fuel tank being at a strange angle. I recommend seeking out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you repair the fuel tank and any hoses that may be cracked or split.

For indoor leaks, to disperse the gas, open all windows and doors to the outside. Avoid sources of ignition – no smoking, do not turn electrical switches on or off. For large outdoor leaks (i.e. where there is a smell of gas more than a few feet from the source), keep people, vehicles and ignition sources away.
Fuel smell from the engine bay

When refilling gas tank, gas overflows before tank is full.
ANSWER : The most common cause of this type of problem is when the fuel filler neck’s inner tube comes off of the neck itself. You will need to have the filler neck removed to check to see if the inner tube was knocked off from someone trying to get fuel out of tank with a siphon hose and managed to knock the hose off. This causes the tank to not get filled properly and the inner hose can get caught in the fuel sender causing wrong readings.

If you’d like to get this fixed, consider YourMechanic, as a certified technician can help you service your fuel filler neck and ensure that your fuel gauge functions normally. Good luck.

If after this you continue to have issues then replace fuel filter and clean injectors as needed.

Gas tank is leaking
ANSWER : The tank is made of very sturdy stamped steel. It will withstand any conceivable vapor pressure that gasoline will create in a motor vehicle. If the tank is leaking, it leaks because it’s rusted out. It’s usually a waste of time to fiddle with gas tank repairs because if the tank is already rusty, while you repair one spot, another hole opens up months later. If the gas tank is leaking, it should be replaced with a new gas tank and the steel tubing should be replaced as well because it is probably nearly rusted through. At the same time, all the components of the EVAP system, including the gas cap, should be tested to be sure everything is functioning correctly. If you desire an inspection of the fuel leak, and replacement of the tank as needed, by a certified Mechanic, dispatched by YourMechanic right to your location, please request a fuel leak inspection and diagnostic – tubing and tank and the responding certified mechanic will get this resolved for you once and for all. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

My car been leaking gas my tank is on my passenger side but gas leaking on my driver side
ANSWER : Leaking gasoline is a fire/explosion hazard so be sure to have this leak repaired at your earliest convenience. In the meantime, be sure not to park in a confined space, such as a garage, because gasoline vapors could accumulate and explode if there is an ignition source. Undercar fuel leaks are often caused by corroded, perforated steel tubing, joint leaks at the fuel filter, or rubber hose connections. Sometimes fuel pipes can get damaged by collisions with debris on the roadway. Whether the leak is in the steel supply and return lines, rubber hoses, or even the gas tank, it will be repairable. If you desire a repair of the leak by a certified Mechanic, dispatched by YourMechanic right to your location, please request a fuel leak inspection and diagnostic – tubing and tank and the responding certified mechanic will get this resolved for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

Can 1 man replace a fuel pump and sending unit, clean out sludge and particles from fuel tank in about 1 hour? Think I was scammed
ANSWER : To drop the fuel tank on your model, and immediately re-install the tank (without any cleaning or service) would require about 2 to 3 hours in total for an experienced professional if a lift is available. The fuel pump itself can be installed without removing the tank but to do that you must have access to the inside of the car because the pump is removed through an access panel under the rear seat. Also, you can’t drop the tank without access to the inside of the car because to drop the tank the wiring harness has to be disconnected and that connection is only accessible from inside the car. So, if the car was locked, obviously no work was performed on the vehicle. YourMechanic does offer these services and you can start by requesting fuel pump replacement. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.
