Okay so start my truck, put it in drive, I can feel transmission engage, try to accelerate, and you can feel the truck ever so slightly try to move but nothing (this happens with or without overdrive locked out), shift truck to 1st or 2nd and it drives like a dream. Shift from 2nd to drive with overdrive locked out and it drives like a dream (never slips). Turn overdrive back on and the transmission will only slip if I slow down to under 20kmph or if I floor it and try to accelerate hard. Reverse sometimes works but it struggles and needs a lot of throttle to get the truck moving. Parked t

Hello. Transmission shifting problems can be caused by a wide variety of issues. A few common causes are issues with the fluid, torque converter. Automatic transmission operate using fluid pressure. If the transmission fluid is dirty or contaminated, or the pressure is compromised, perhaps due to a leak, it can cause the transmission to malfunction. Another possible cause could be with the vehicle’s torque converter, or clutch packs, inside of the transmission. These components are what convert the fluid pressure into torque to propel the vehicle and can cause shifting problems if there is any issues. As these are internal components, the transmission would have to be removed and disassembled to service or replace them. Another possible cause is faulty shift solenoids. The shift solenoids are the components that engage the shift points and gears, if they go out they can cause the transmission to experience shifting problems. I would recommend having a professional technician, such as one from YourMechanic, come to your location to diagnose the cause of your transmission shifting issues.

The most common problem Ford Ranger owners face is difficulty in shifting gears. This issue is usually caused by a worn-out clutch, which makes it hard to engage the gears. You may also experience grinding or rattling sounds when shifting gears.
The 5R55E was the very first automatic 5-speed transmission used by an automaker in the United States. The 5R55E offered more precision when it came to the computer controls required to accommodate the additional forward gear in addition to introducing a more advanced friction-to-friction shifting ability.
Failing Torque Converter: The torque converter is what transforms energy from the engine into something your transmission can use. They work with transmission fluid, so low fluid levels could cause damage here as well. Once the torque converter is damaged, your transmission will slip.

2013 Ford Focus Transmission Issue. Is it worth keeping the car?
ANSWER : Hi There,
This is a known issue in this generation Ford Focus and some Fiestas with the "Power Shift" transmission and there have been numerous recalls and lawsuits. Although, it is would be difficult to determine how much longer your transmission will last given the fact that you have many new parts, I would not recommend junking the car as it may still provide some valuable life left for you. I would recommend taking it to the dealer to see if these parts may be covered under the recall.

Car jerks when accelerating in reverse & makes grinding noise. Is this a transmission or computer issue?
ANSWER : Hi there. Typically when you hear a grinding noise when you move forward or in reverse it’s usually an indication of a gear fault either in the transmission or another driveline component. If this occurs only when in reverse, it’s likely a damaged reverse gear. It is also possible that it’s a hydraulic fluid issue not supplying enough lubrication or pressure inside the lines to fully open the gear. I would recommend having a professional mechanic come to your location and complete a car is hard to shift inspection, so they can diagnose the source of your issue and recommend repairs that should resolve this problem.

There is automatic transmission fluid in a manual transmission. Is it okay to leave or do I need manual transmission fluid?
ANSWER : This would depend on what the manufacturer recommends. Many manual transmissions do take automatic transmission fluid. If your transmission has ATF in it, it is very likely that it is supposed to have that in there. If not, it is likely that the transmission would not function properly with the wrong fluid. Many manual transmissions will also take engine oil as a lubricant. The best way to know for sure is to check your owner’s manual or call your local General Motors dealership to inquire.

Sounds like a bolt rolling inside my transmission but the car rides fine no shifting issues can it still be a bad transmission?
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. While a rattling noise can come from several different places within the transmission, you will want to start with a basic transmission fluid service changing the fluid and the filter. During this process, the bottom of the transmission can be inspected for signs of metal shavings and more serious issues. Since it happens in all gears, you should be concerned with the drive shaft and where it meets the flywheel. There is bearing or bushing between that is supposed to guide and support during all types of loads and conditions which may be wearing down. For more help and an inspection, contact our service department to schedule an appointment.

Kia Optima 2004 v6 LX new engine old transmission no problems before with transmission now my transmission is shifting a high rpm
ANSWER : Hi There,
This may be an issue related to the communication of the PCM and the TCM (Transmission control module). As you may know, the TCM relies on the PCM to transmit information related to RPM’s, which the TCM then uses to determine when to direct the transmission to shift. The transmission control module has various sensors such as vehicle speed sensors, wheel speed sensors, throttle position sensors, turbine speed sensor, and transmission fluid temperature sensors that all direct information to it in order for it to perform it’s function. Other functions controlled by the TCM are components such as a kick down switch, traction control system, and cruise control module. Any of these may also affect the way the transmission control module performs and controls the transmission and the shifting of your vehicle. I would suggest having a professional from Your Mechanic come to your location to properly diagnose your transmission problem.
