Hello there:

There could be multiple issues going on with your Mazda pickup that are causing it not to start. In most cases, it’s either going to be a fuel delivery issue or ignition system problem that gets in the way of a smooth and efficient start. Some common issues include mass air flow sensors, crankshaft position sensors or distributor or coil problems under the hood. The best way to determine this is to have a professional mobile mechanic complete a car is hard to start inspection first, so they can pinpoint the source of your problems and recommend the right repairs.

Very reliable car!!

I just changed the clutch on it aafter buying it new in 2002. The car has never ever given me any problems. Except for the clutch that I just had to change(the clutch was pricey, though $1,300). I would defnitely recommend this car!!

The most common reasons a Mazda B2500 won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.
If the car cranks when you turn the key, but the engine won`t start, it could be because fuel isn`t getting to the engine. One potential reason for this could be dirty fuel injectors. Over time, the fuel injector nozzles can become clogged with rust, corrosion or debris.
A dead battery is often the most common reason your car won`t start. Batteries age out, so if it`s been some time since it was replaced, you should visit us.
If your vehicle won`t start, it`s usually caused by a dying or dead battery, loose or corroded connection cables, a bad alternator or an issue with the starter. It can be hard to determine if you`re dealing with a battery or an alternator problem.
The cause of this problem is usually one of 3 things – a failed starter motor, a bad connection between the battery and starter motor, or a blown fuse (if present) in line between the starter and the battery.
You want your Mazda B4000 to last as long as possible. With proactive maintenance, your B4000 has a good chance of hitting 200,000 miles or more.
The most common reasons a Mazda B2300 won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.
The most common reasons a Mazda 6 won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.
If you lose a key, an Authorised Mazda Repairer will reset the electronic codes of your remaining keys and immobilizer system. Bring all the remaining keys to an Authorised Mazda Repairer to reset. Starting the vehicle with a key that has not been reset is not possible.
Bad Spark Plug Or Broken Distributor Cap/Rotor

If you have a good battery and enough fuel in the gas tank and your car still won`t start, chances are you have a bad spark plug. Why? A bad spark plug will prevent fuel ignition, and the vehicle won`t move.

If you`ve replaced your battery but the engine still won`t start, it could actually be an engine problem. A seized engine won`t turn over, and that often resembles a bad starter or dead battery. If you suspect that your problem stems from an engine issue, it could take hours to diagnose and repair.
Check the battery if there is a slow crank and a clicking sound, and the car engine won`t start. However, if the check engine light illuminates, the issue could be the engine or fuel pump. If your vehicle doesn`t start, call AAA, roadside service, or another towing company to take your car to get it repaired.
Rear- or four-wheel drive.
The B3000 has a 3.0-liter V6 that makes 150 horsepower and 185 foot-pounds of torque. The top-level B4000 features a new 4.0-liter SOHC V6 (the same one found in Ford`s Explorer) with 207 horsepower and 238 foot-pounds of torque. It is mated to a new five-speed automatic transmission.

So when your Ranger swings/cranks but refuses to start, it means 1 or more of the 3 requirements are not being met. On a diesel engine, you need compression, which ignites the fuel. No spark plugs. Common problems to look out for are ignition coils/switches, bad fuel supply, or clogged filters.

Fuel pump engages. Batery good, alternator good volts, jump start helps when wont start. Temp does not matter. Intermittent?
ANSWER : Hello. Thank you for writing in. There are several reasons your vehicle may only start when jump starting. The first and most common is a build up of resistance that is causing you to need a boost of voltage to get the engine started. This may be due to poor battery cables, a bad ground connection, a poor starter solenoid, and a couple of other issues. The first thing you want to do is perform a visual inspection of the starting system. Make sure there is no corrosion build up in the battery cables. You can also check the resistance across these wires and make sure you have a solid connection between components. You then want to make sure the starter solenoid is doing its job. It is responsible for taking the small amount of electricity sent by the ignition and turning it into a huge electrical charge that is strong enough to push over the engine with the help of some gear ratios in its favor. Do some more testing, and stick to the basics before assuming its something seriously complicated.

Vehicle won’t start, once it’s jump started it only stays running until you turn it off, then it work start again without jumping.
ANSWER : Hi there. There could be two problems here. It is possible that your battery is bad and will not take a charge from your alternator while driving. In that case every time you shut your car off you will not have enough juice to start it again. Inspect your battery – it should have at least 12.5 to 13 volts to start your car, if it doesn’t you will need to replace the battery. The second problem could be that your alternator is bad and not charging your battery, in this case you will need to replace your alternator. Both the battery and the alternator can be tested in your car. If you would like to have the car checked for you, a certified professional from YourMechanic can come to your car’s location to diagnose the starting problem and proceed with repairs.

Cranks over start than dies
ANSWER : Hi There,
The idle air control valve is a small valve on the engine’s intake system that reads the air intake as it comes into the motor. This is controlled by the car’s ECM which uses this information to make adjustments to the air/fuel ratio depending on various inputs such as outside air temperature, intake air temperature, load and various other things. As you accelerate, your car’s engine is receiving a much higher dose of fuel than when at idle and conversely, when you let off the gas pedal, there is a sudden change in this fuel supply as a result of your foot letting off the pedal. When this happens, the job of the idle air control valve is to bring this deceleration down to a slow and smooth idle rather than suddenly cutting off the fuel supply causing the motor to die. When the idle air control valve is not working properly, this cause a disruption in this process resulting in the engine not being able to idle properly. I would recommend having a professional come to your location to diagnose and inspect your vehicle.

Car won’t start – 2004 Ford Focus
ANSWER : Hi and thanks for contacting YourMechanic. Check the battery cables for more corrosion and clean them up again. You may need to put backing soda and water mixture on the terminals to clean the corrosion completely off. Make sure that the cables are tight and also tight on the starter solenoid. By rocking the vehicle back and forth and using the clutch to start the vehicle, this is an indication that the cable on the starter is either corroded or loose. If you need further assistance troubleshooting your starting system, then seek out a technician, such as one from YourMechanic, to diagnose and resolve the issue.

Why does my car start one day and the next day it wont start? The car will crank but wont turn over
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. With intermittent symptoms, diagnosis can take longer but is typically the same as diagnosing any other starting problem. The main issue is that you can only perform the testing needed when the issue is occurring. If the vehicle starts and works normally, all of the components are likely going to pass their tests. There are several components that will work intermittently. They include the fuel pump, charging system, a number of sensors, and any electrical connection that is loose. When the vehicle is not starting, test for fuel pressure, spark, and the electrical connection on any of the sensors that effects starting (air intake, camshaft/crankshaft position sensors). Wont start (Click), shift gear from P to R then back to P Starts it, after runs for a while it starts up fine.
ANSWER : Your vehicle has something called a neutral safety switch that will prevent the vehicle from starting when it is in any gear position other than park or neutral. Occasionally, this switch can malfunction causing the car to stall as soon as you put it into any gear. This switch usually also monitors gear selection data as well to transmit back to the computer. This switch is connected to the starter solenoid which allows it to complete the starter circuit only when the transmission is in park or neutral. I would suggest having a professional from YourMechanic come to your location to diagnose and inspect your vehicle.

Why does my car struggle to start every 4th to 5th time?
ANSWER : It sounds like your starting issues may be linked to a problem with air metering or fuel delivery. A clogged or malfunctioning idle air control valve may show some of the same symptoms you are describing. The idle air control valve can be stuck in a cold start position which may work well if the car has been sitting a few hours, but as the engine warms up there must be a regulation in airflow. Consider hiring an experienced technician like one from YourMechanic who can come out for a closer look at your hard start situation and offer a more personal diagnosis.
