I'm trying to find a motor for my daughters car. It had a 2.2 ecotec motor and I found a 2.4 in 2008 Malibu Lt. My daughters is a 2005 Malibu with the 2.2 . Will it hook up with out any modifications.

My car has 158000 miles.

2.2L Ecotec 4 Cylinder GM Engine

GM`s versatile and advanced 2.2L Ecotec 4 cylinder is the standard engine for a wide range of vehicles. Offering a good mix of power and fuel economy, it`s a direct replacement for the Chevrolet HHR, Chevrolet Cobalt, or Pontiac G5.

Variants of the GM Ecotec engine have been used in Pontiac, Saab, Saturn, Opel, Oldsmobile, Vauxhall, and Chevrolet, making the Ecotec a “world engine” suitable for numerous applications.

It`s amazing that any components whatsoever designed for a stock 140-hp 2.2-liter Ecotec would survive on an extreme powerplant making more than six times the power. However, the stock Ecotec block and main/girdle structure did survive to 750 hp, as did the stock sleeves. The stock main bearings survived.
The GM 2.4L Ecotec engine is an in-line 4-cylinder design. This design has a small footprint but does produce a decent bit of horsepower; from 164-182. Overall, the GM 2.4L engine was designed for efficiency.
