Having issues starting vehicle. Insert key and do not get any lights, car will not turn over…..nothing. After messing with it for 20-30 minutes it will eventually start. This has been happening sporadically over the past 3 months.
Now this issue is every time I attempt to start. Now, some of the dashboard lights flash and there is a clicking sound and this is happening WITHOUT the key.
Finally got it to start a few minutes ago and now there is a warning light "TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION – SERVICE NOW". Can I drive my vehicle ?? Need to drive 30 miles to get home.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hello. It sounds like you either have a bad connection at the battery or the issue is with the transmission position sensor. If the sensor fails then the computer will not allow the vehicle to start. The car is only allowed to start in park or neutral so if it is not working this will occur. I usually test the battery first and then if there is not a battery issue the transmission position sensor needs to be tested. If you want to have this starting issue looked at, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to your home or office to diagnose why it is having trouble starting.

This warning light usually indicates a problem with your car`s automatic transmission. It might turn on because the transmission fluid temperature is higher than normal – or it could serve as a reminder that your transmission fluid levels are getting low and need to be topped up.
It`s a type of car problem that`s not hard to notice. 2013 Ford Fiesta transmission problems can show up as shifting delays, grinding when accelerating, the car shaking at any speed, or a burning smell or whistling sounds coming from under the hood.
A faulty transmission control module (TCM) may prevent a car from starting, but it is not a definitive cause. The TCM is responsible for controlling various functions of the transmission, but it also receives input from other systems such as the engine control module (ECM) and the brake control module.
Turn off your vehicle`s ignition and wait patiently for 5 to 10 seconds. Start the engine and allow it to idle for several seconds. Switch off the ignition and wait patiently for another 30 to 40 seconds. Repeat these steps 2 to 3 times in order to reset your vehicle`s transmission control module.
A transmission light can turn on for several reasons ranging from an overheating transmission and bad transmission fluid to gear change issues. Checking the transmission fluid level and getting regular transmission service can help prevent car issues.
What Does the Automatic Transmission/Automatic Gearbox Warning Light Mean? The automatic transmission warning light means there`s an issue with the transmission, possibly the fluid temperature, fluid level, or pressure.
What the P0700 code means. P0700 is set when the PCM detects a malfunction in the transmission control system. This malfunction causes the vehicle to set a Check Engine Light and trigger a failsafe mode. Once the failsafe mode is set it will remain until the fault is repaired or normal operation is detected.
Every 2013 Ford Fiesta is powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder that produces 120 horsepower and 112 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, but a six-speed automated manual known as “PowerShift” is optional.
The 2013 Ford Fiesta had the most complaints of all model years. Owners reported 201 problems via 973 complaints. The major problem categories for this model year were issues with the Fiesta`s transmission and engine. Transmission troubles accounted for more than 60% of the problems that triggered owner complaints.
Your vehicle seems to have trouble downshifting when your vehicle slows down. Your vehicle`s engine roars loudly and has difficulty shifting to higher gears when you attempt to accelerate. Your vehicle`s gears shift unexpectedly to another gear or neutral when you`re driving.

2013 Ford Focus Transmission Issue. Is it worth keeping the car?
ANSWER : Hi There,
This is a known issue in this generation Ford Focus and some Fiestas with the "Power Shift" transmission and there have been numerous recalls and lawsuits. Although, it is would be difficult to determine how much longer your transmission will last given the fact that you have many new parts, I would not recommend junking the car as it may still provide some valuable life left for you. I would recommend taking it to the dealer to see if these parts may be covered under the recall.

There is automatic transmission fluid in a manual transmission. Is it okay to leave or do I need manual transmission fluid?
ANSWER : This would depend on what the manufacturer recommends. Many manual transmissions do take automatic transmission fluid. If your transmission has ATF in it, it is very likely that it is supposed to have that in there. If not, it is likely that the transmission would not function properly with the wrong fluid. Many manual transmissions will also take engine oil as a lubricant. The best way to know for sure is to check your owner’s manual or call your local General Motors dealership to inquire.

Transmission fluid comes up out of the transmission vent tube attached to the transmission dipstick tube
ANSWER : Hi there. Fluid seepage out of the vent tube can sometimes be normal, but can also be caused by overfilling. Has a service been performed recently? Perform a fluid level and condition inspection by having the engine at idle, on a level surface, warmed up engine, and remove the dipstick and cleaning it with a shop towel. Reinsert the dipstick and fully remove to a horizontal position for inspection. Make sure the fluid is not milky, very dark, or has contamination. The level should be in the safe zone marked on the stick.

Have an inspection by a qualified technician determine if any problems truly do exist and provide you with some assurance. YourMechanic has several technicians available that can assist you with a transmission leak inspection and can perform a transmission fluid service if needed.

Kia Optima 2004 v6 LX new engine old transmission no problems before with transmission now my transmission is shifting a high rpm
ANSWER : Hi There,
This may be an issue related to the communication of the PCM and the TCM (Transmission control module). As you may know, the TCM relies on the PCM to transmit information related to RPM’s, which the TCM then uses to determine when to direct the transmission to shift. The transmission control module has various sensors such as vehicle speed sensors, wheel speed sensors, throttle position sensors, turbine speed sensor, and transmission fluid temperature sensors that all direct information to it in order for it to perform it’s function. Other functions controlled by the TCM are components such as a kick down switch, traction control system, and cruise control module. Any of these may also affect the way the transmission control module performs and controls the transmission and the shifting of your vehicle. I would suggest having a professional from Your Mechanic come to your location to properly diagnose your transmission problem.

Can too much transmission fluid cause speedometer malfunctions?
ANSWER : Hi there. In most cases when you overfill the transmission fluid it can cause excessive foaming of the fluid or possible internal component failure due to excessive pressure inside the hydraulic lines. Sensors like the speed sensors however are rarely impacted by this situation. However, in regards to the possibility of probability of this; I would say perhaps a 10% chance.

What is the difference between engine oil warning light and another warning light just like that but with waves under the sign? 1996 Mitsubishi Galant
ANSWER : Hello- the warning light you mention is a " low coolant" indicator. Once the engine is cool – check your coolant reservoir and/or cooling system for proper fluid level. Since you seem to have lost fluid, I would recommend an inspection of the cooling system by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose this problem, give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.

Transmission slipping, gear warning on the dash
ANSWER : Hello. Let’s hope that you don’t have an issue with the mechanical aspect of the transmission on your 2002 BMW 330xi. I believe the best thing to check will be the transmission fluid. Also, I suggest having a technician run a diagnostic test on the computer of the vehicle with a scan tool to retrieve any stored fault codes. The gear indicator coming up on the dash should be accompanied by a fault code which will help determine the cause of the slipping problem you are having.
