The car runs, but when it hits a certain mph its starts to get shaky and we have to put it in 3rd gear.
When we put it in reverse it will not go in reverse and sometimes still be in drive and will pull up forward.
You also have to rev the engine a little to get it to start driving. Not to much but you still have to do it.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Firing order of the cylinders is 1-3-4-2.
sl1 are usually single camer slammers. and sl2 r twin cam. sl2 might have better seats but they do have power options and some have sunroofs.
The most common reasons a Saturn SL1 won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter. Search our network of RepairPal Certified shops near you to speak with a technician about your issue.
In model year 2001, General Motors released Gen I small-block and LS-series engines that all used the same PCM (GM# 12200411). The firing order for the Gen I small-block engine is 1-8- 4-3-6-5-7-2. The firing order for the LSseries engines is 1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3.
The first generation Saturn SC coupes were made from 1990 until 1996. The first generation Saturn SC coupes were originally only available in one trim level which was the SC. The 1990-1992 Saturn SC featured a DOHC 1.9-liter LL0 inline-four engine that was rated at 123 hp (92 kW).
Unfortunately, that means that most Saturns only have a few more years left in them, even though Saturns can function well past 200,000 miles on the odometer. Older Saturns, especially the ones that are approaching 20 years old or older, should only be expected to last for another 3-5 years at most.

Saturn, a GM company that had great promise in the early 1990s, ultimately failed because senior GM leaders couldn`t see the benefits of new ways of doing things and a new kind of organizational culture.
Annual sales achieved their highest level in 1994, with 286,003 vehicles marketed. Following a failed attempt by Penske Automotive to acquire Saturn in September 2009, GM ended production in October of 2009, ended outstanding franchises in October of 2010, and discontinued the brand 25 years after it began.
Straight-four engines typically use a firing order of 1-3-4-2, however some British engines used a firing order of 1-2-4-3. Flat-four engines typically use a firing order of R1-R2-L1-L2. Straight-five engines typically use a firing order of 1-2-4-5-3, in order to minimise the primary vibration from the rocking couple.
Most 4-cylinder engines have a firing order of 1-3-4-2 although other firing orders such as 1-3-2-4, 1-4-3-2, 1-2-4-3 are possible.
The engine may not start. If it does start, it may run very rough, seriously lack power, stall, back-fire through the intake, ignition voltage may crossfire or jump to ground. I imagine that engine damage will occur if the firing order is not corrected.
Swapping the firing order between any of the paired pistons can be done within reason but requires a special camshaft to change the order of valve actuation; this will also change the overall engine firing order, including the ignition order.
Smaller engines, often ranging between 1-litre and 1.9-litre, tend to be the most economical as there is less fuel to burn to create power. However, this can often result in less power compared to a larger engine. They are usually more efficient if used for their purpose, which is most commonly city driving.
It is a great choice. I have serviced a few of them and never heard of any serious complaints or never came across major repair issues. Many of my customers are turning to Saturns as an alternative vehicle because of its fuel efficiency and good warranty backup.
It might also be difficult for the dealership to obtain parts for old Saturn models. If you are committed to purchasing a Saturn, be prepared to spend time and money to get your vehicle repaired when needed, especially if you opt for the Vue, Sky, or Outlook models.

Generally speaking, anti-lock brakes are quite advantageous. They provide the driver with more stability and prevent the car from spinning out of control, in particular on wet or slippery surfaces. As far as modern vehicle safety features go, anti-lock braking systems (ABS) are among the most essential.
Everything that I`ve read online says it`s OK to use if you`ve been using ATF-Z1 fluid. The claimed differences between the two are the ATF-DW1 viscosity is lower (thinner), which translates into better gas mileage, and the lubricating properties have been improved.
Commonly recommended manual transmission fluid formulations include SAE 80W, 75W-90, 80W-90 and SAE 90. In some cases, a multi-grade engine oil or automatic transmission fluid may be recommended. However, a manual transmission fluid is typically the most optimal for manual transmissions.
Take the dipstick out, wipe it down with a clean rag or paper towel, then put it back into the transmission fill tube. Pull the dipstick back out of the tube, and check the fluid level against the markings near the end of the dipstick. Fluid can be added if necessary.
Automatic transmission fluid is a transmission oil that is used in automatic vehicles only, but in the case of a manual transmission where the clutch and shifter are used during gear shifts, manual transmission oil is used.
Ultra1Plus Transmission Fluid Full Synthetic ATF Universal is a universal automatic transmission lubricant which is suitable for use in nearly all makes and models of automatic transmissions including passenger cars, light trucks, heavy-duty trucks, commercial vehicles, as well as off-road vehicles.
