How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Here are the top three complaints that Hyundai Veloster owners have been making since about 2012: Engine connecting rod breaks. Engine loses power. Engine knocking noise.
Hyundai is recalling certain model year 2012 Veloster vehicles manufactured from July 2, 2011, through February 27, 2012 and equipped with manual transmissions. Moisture and road grime may cause the parking brake components to bind. Tip: Recalls don`t affect every vehicle of the same year, make and model.
Vehicles recalled: 2012-2013 Hyundai Velosters built between July 4, 2011, and Sept. 27, 2013. The problem: Liquid may leak into the Reverse Park Aid Sensor (RPAS), which can result in an electrical short circuit. The fix: Dealers will replace the RPAS fuse and sensor as necessary, free of charge.
Veloster DCT ($18,550) uses the automated dual-clutch transmission. Standard equipment includes air conditioning with cabin filter, 196-watt AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 audio system with iPod and USB jacks, Bluetooth, 7-inch touch screen, power everything, remote keyless entry, 60/40 rear seat, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
The worst issue to appear in the Hyundai Veloster is engine faults. Several models experienced troubles like connecting rod failure, loss of power, and a knocking noise.
The 2012 Hyundai Veloster`s engine begins to ping or develops a knocking noise about 23,000 miles. For most vehicles, it would still be under warranty, but Hyundai simply ignored the problem as it did with all the other issues on this list.
Hyundai and Kia have issued a recall on certain 2021-2023 cars, trucks, and SUVs equipped with a dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The recall will also result in a stop-sale order on those affected models until they can be repaired.
Fuel injector nozzles can become clogged over time, which can lead to a sputtering engine, slow acceleration and the car not having enough power. Fuel injectors can be cleaned if the problem is caught early, but as the conditions worsens, the injectors may have to be replaced.
Error code P1326 occurs due to vibrations indicating excessive connecting rod bearing wear. You can easily detect them using the KSDS (Knock Sensor Detection System). Since severe engine damage and failure are possible, this device notifies the driver about a preceding phase of bearing wear.
However, that doesn`t necessarily make the Veloster a bad choice for your first car! It also boasts lower ownership costs than the average vehicle, so you won`t be paying too much for repairs. They can also last for 200,000 miles or more if properly maintained, so it could last you for a while.
It has 5-star safety, is quite cheap to run, and parts and servicing are not expensive, all of which make it a good choice. But for a rookie driver`s first car it might not be the best choice, given its performance and his inexperience.

Car jerks when accelerating in reverse & makes grinding noise. Is this a transmission or computer issue?
ANSWER : Hi there. Typically when you hear a grinding noise when you move forward or in reverse it’s usually an indication of a gear fault either in the transmission or another driveline component. If this occurs only when in reverse, it’s likely a damaged reverse gear. It is also possible that it’s a hydraulic fluid issue not supplying enough lubrication or pressure inside the lines to fully open the gear. I would recommend having a professional mechanic come to your location and complete a car is hard to shift inspection, so they can diagnose the source of your issue and recommend repairs that should resolve this problem.

Leaving stop light car runs high rpms 5000-6000 and doesn’t want to go over 20 mph 2009 Chevy Traverse
ANSWER : Hi there – first thing to check is the transmission fluid level – low fluid levels can cause lots of problems like this – your transmission is obviously slipping badly. If the fluid is at a correct level, and doesn’t smell burned, you may well have burned out clutches in the transmission, or solenoid or valve problems in the valve body of the transmission. The problem codes reviewed by your mechanic should have helped guide the diagnosis. I would recommend a 2nd opinion transmission inspection by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose this problem, give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.

’14 Hyundai Accent oil is really muddy.
ANSWER : Unless there is obvious evidence of sludge, metallic particles, antifreeze contamination and so forth, the only way to judge oil condition is to send a sample to an oil analysis lab (there are quite a few out there for car owners; do a google search: "engine oil analysis lab"). Also, it is hard to judge your experience because I don’t know what your previous oil change intervals were. As far as reported complaints regarding Accent oil condition, I see zero. In fact, if you look at the 2014 Accent in the NHTSA database, there is an incredibly small number of complaints, indeed only 9 which, as I recall, is the smallest number I have ever seen on a 3 year old model of a fairly common car. Regarding the engine, there may be an ECM software update for your vehicle and you should check that (I see it in Hyundai’s TSB database). If the engine is not operating at full power, YourMechanic does offer a loss of power diagnostic and a certified mechanic could evaluate that for you and suggest any needed repairs. With regard to the steering wheel, the tie rod ends on left versus right may need to be adjusted in order to center the steering wheel. Too much cross camber can also cause the wheel to not be centered as you have to steer in one direction to keep the car going straight. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

Why do the RPMs stay higher when I shift into Neutral?
ANSWER : Hello. The symptoms you describe can commonly be caused by a vacuum leak or faulty idle air control valve. A vacuum leak may allow unmetered air into the engine, which may causing the idle to stay high when the transmission is put into neutral. It may also be possible that the idle air control valve has malfunctioned and is causing the issues. The idle air control valve is the component that is responsible for maintaining and adjusting engine idle speeds. If it malfunctions it may cause an erratic or irregular idle, as you are experiencing. I would start by closely inspecting the vehicle for any vacuum leaks, perhaps in the form of a leaky gasket or worn out hose, and then move on to testing the idle air control valve.

I have a 2012 Dodge Charger R/T AWD and I have check engine light issues
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. The long list of potential issues that cause hard-starts and misfires is profound. Without knowing exactly what diagnostic codes the dealership was pulling from the check engine light, it is impossible to narrow down the culprits for you. If you can inform us what the latest codes are, we can have a better idea of what the issues may be. The codes can change just by putting the key in the ignition, as this is when the vehicle starts running self-tests, so scanning it again may bring new information to light. Newer vehicles are so complex when it comes to the electronics that monitor them, that there are several components that may lead to random electrical issues. One thing you should do is run your VIN and see what TSBs (technician service bulletins) are out for your vehicle. This will tell you every single issue the manufacture knows is wrong with the vehicle, and as long as those parts are original, they have to replace them for free. There are TSBs out for your model and year, and some will effect electrical systems. For a second opinion and inspection, contact our service department to schedule an appointment.

Acceleration issue, RPMs increase but not speed
ANSWER : If your car is revving up but not moving, or is slow at gaining speed, then you have a slipping clutch. If you have a manual or automatic transmission it will still be a clutch issue. A mechanic with experience will need to road test the car to verify the problem if it is indeed the clutch causing the problem. If you want to have this done, a professional from YourMechanic can diagnose your vehicle’s slipping issue and let you know what should be done.
