Replace crumpled hood

My Nova is a 4 door base sedan and my hood is crumpled. I want to replace my hood, but I can only find the hood of a 1972 Nova. Will this work? Do you know? Will I need to get other parts to work on this?
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
It looks like it should work, since both the ’72 and ’73 are the same body style. If you’re buying the hood online from an aftermarket supplier, I suggest you call them to confirm prior to ordering. If you’re buying from a junkyard or other used source, closely examine and compare the hoods prior to purchase.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

Remove the hood from the car. Place the hood upside-down on a soft surface. Use a hammer to bang out any dents. Use a hammer and wood block to help you bend the hood back into place.
Generally, it will cost $50 to $250 to fix a bent car hood, but the price can vary depending on the make and model of your car and how severe the damage is. If the damage is beyond repair, it will cost anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars to replace the hood. .
Bent hoods

Just like cracked windshields, hoods that have been bent or smashed may impair your vision on the road. If you are unable to see over your hood after a collision, it may not be safe to drive your car away. Additionally, removing the hood yourself can be difficult and may cause more damage.

A hood that gets seriously bent or crumpled may squash or rub against engine components. Depending on the components involved, this pressure or friction could impair proper engine performance. Large gaps that expose the engine bay to the elements may promote rust and subject rubber components to damaging UV rays.
If your vehicle`s hood sustains a small dent from hail, a falling object, a sports ball, or another circumstance, it can generally be repaired with the PDR process. As long as the paint is still okay and the dent is not too complex. A PDR technician will be able to repair the hood on your vehicle.
Luckily, you can fix small dents in your car hood using these household items: Vacuum cleaner. Poke a hole in the bottom of a container or bucket and place it over the dent. Use the vacuum to suck the air out of the hole until the dent pops out.
The time involved is mainly influenced by the availability of a new hood and the extent of damage on an old hood. A typical DIY hood replacement will only take 15 minutes considering a friend is there to help you in lifting the hood off of the frame and replacing new one safely.
To do this, remove your hood and lay it upside down on a blanket. Hammer around the edges until the dent pops out. You can also try the plunger method. Place your household plunger over the dent and pull until it pops back into place.
A true “dent” is a type of damage done to a vehicle that covers more surface area than a ding would. Dents generally involve paint and/or metal damage, are more unsightly than dings, and ultimately, will cost you more money for repairs.
These dents are typically caused by impacts from baseballs, basketballs, resting elbows, hip checks, parking lot bumper rubs, ect. Sometimes vehicle body lines, and sharp corners near the dent, result in cracked paint at time of impact.
If your car hood is too damaged and needs to be replaced entirely, the cost of a professional replacement can range anywhere from $70 to $500, depending on the kind of hood you have (fiberglass, carbon fiber, or steel).
No, a car is not automatically totaled if the frame is bent because whether a car is totaled depends on the actual cost to repair the vehicle compared to how much the vehicle was worth.

First, heat the dent with the hairdryer approximately six inches away for about 30 seconds. Then cover the dent with a piece of aluminum foil and rub dry ice over it. The rapid change from hot to cold should make the dent pop out within a minute or so. Another temperature trick involves boiling water.

Do i need to replace the receiver drier and/or the expansion valve when replacing the condenser assembly?
ANSWER : Replacing the system drier is absolutely essential. If the system has been open to the atmosphere (due to the leak in the condenser), the desiccant in the drier has been fully saturated with moisture. As far as the expansion valve, replacement is not normally implicated in a leak repair, in your case a leak in the condenser. To justify replacing the expansion valve, there would have to have been a diagnostic performed which proved a fault. If no diagnostic was performed, and there is no evidence of a fault, then it is pointless to replace the valve. But, again, drier replacement is absolutely essential. To add the drier to your order, you can simply add a note to the mechanic in your order and/or add it as a service (you will see a link that you can click on to "add services" or write in specific services). If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

Hood cable broke and hood won’t open
ANSWER : Hello. There is a spring loaded latch that the cable pulls on so you should grab a flashlight and a screwdriver like the one you saw him use and look for where the spring is. The lever needs to be pushed towards the drivers side of the car. If you play with it a little bit, you’ll get it. Keep in mind it’s spring loaded so it will require a little force. There are multiple videos that show the process if you still cannot get it to release.

Does the whole steering column need to be replaced in order to replace a fried steering column module?
ANSWER : I would ask the mechanic for the exact part number of the electronic component that he believes has failed. Or, at least have him "name" the part and indicate where in the column assembly the part resides. The steering column is made up of many parts, most of which are separately serviceable. As discussed below, limp mode (reduced power) has many, many causes. Consequently I would also ask the mechanic to explain to you EXACTLY how he arrived at his diagnosis and ALSO have him show you the exact test results, on a diagnostic tool, multi-meter, or scope, that has led him to conclude that the particular "module" has to be replaced. With no evidence and no intelligible confirmation you would be taking a risk.

YourMechanic does offer a reduced power (limp mode) diagnostic. If you request a reduced engine power diagnostic the responding certified mechanic will give you confirmation of the cause of the issue in your case. Typically, a vehicle’s powertrain control module (PCM) will have stored one or more diagnostic trouble codes that will identify the "general area" in which the fault lies in the engine management controls. Although the throttle control system is a common trouble area with reduced power, there are quite a few other components and systems that could come into play and, of course, there is always the possibility of multiple, or "coincident", faults. Here are some of the possibilities that YourMechanic dispatched technicians would consider:

Defective throttle position (TP) sensor
Defective oxygen sensor
Defective accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor
Loose or damaged wiring
Defective throttle body
Defective powertrain control module (PCM) (not typical; ONLY if a long, long list of other possibilities is ruled out)
Any fault/error that will affect drivability function
Any fault/error that will affect vehicle performance
A fault/error in the emissions system
A fault/error in the throttle control system
A fault/error in the transmission control system

If you request the recommended diagnostic the mechanic will get this resolved for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

When replacing the AC Compressor, do I need to replace both expansion valves as well or just the front
ANSWER : Hi there. Anytime you replace major air conditioning system components like the AC compressor, it’s recommended to purchase all supporting hardware and replace it at the same time. AC works as a series of individual components working efficiently together to create cool air that flows into your cabin. As such, if you’re replacing the front expansion valve, it’s a good idea to replace the rear at the same time. This increases overall efficiency of the system, reduces the potential of small component failure and allows the parts you replaced to last longer.
